Fuck you all.

Lenny Kravitz was decent! Certainly wrote some catchy pop songs.

Weezer has been hit or miss lately but their first four albums are fantastic powerpop.

blink-182 were awful live and mediocre on record but I grew up with them so I'll never fully be able to write them off.

Hmm this thread has devolved into people pissing about how they don't like still-popular bands that they think suck.

I am so very surprised.

blink-182 were a lot better live on their last tour, when I saw them. I think since they had made a 'serious' album, they pulled themselves together live.

And saying that Weezer have been forgotten is just straight-out bullshit.

The lyrics, for one, and Kathleen's voice for another. But I'm obviously in the minority on this one, so different strokes for different folks.

Either way this thread is the wrong place for your dislike. Time has not forgotten them. Same with Blink-182. Definitely same with Weezer.

I really must admit though, that when I saw this thread title, I immediately thought of the Shaggs...beyond them, I wasn't sure who else even qualified.

Obviously I can't speak for anyone else and I can't really say I love them either ironically or genuinely but I do find them strangely fascinating and I could easily understand other people loving them.

They've got a 'sound' only a mother could love.

Lots of 'mothers' out there. The Shaggs are to music what turkeys are to flying. I'm curious as to what percentage of their fans actually thinks they aren't one the worst things ever to be immortalized on wax?

Ah yes, the Shaggs. My favorite is My Companion.

Mad scientist type stuff right there.

I don't associate with the kind of people that like things ironically.

Nor do I care for people who call certain bands "guilty pleasures".

It's not paradoxical for a band to make two good albums but still, on balance, be "horrible".

I could name a dozen goth/industrial bands that started out great and then became total and utter shit.

Why does everyone have to hate on the 80s/90s bands that are total win? :[

Crazy Town was pretty decent, and so were SemiSonic, Vertical Horizon, etc.

I understand that a lot of you guys think popular=horrible, but damn, don't just put down everything. Different strokes, different folks.

Uh, no, that's not it. I've seen Crazy Town live before as part of a larger summer tour and they were truly dire. Also, I've only seen more booing once, and that was when Courtney Love was on stage and being bitchy about the weather and left the stage after a single song (Honestly, I'm not sure why people were upset about that part). Basically, Crazy Town does things that I have no interest in AND they do it poorly. Vertical Horizon totally counts towards this thread because I had to Google them to figure out who the hell they were because it turns out I had forgotten about them.

If you think that we all think popular means bad, you haven't been here enough. I had that idea at first, but I lurked for a while. I think it seems like that because some of us at least are very picky about music, and aren't afraid to say how much we think something sucks, and the forum is that of a comic that used to focus on indie rock.

Really, I'd say the most indefensible band listed so far has been... Incubus. They've had a pretty successful run and they don't really fit into many of the pigeon holes they've been shoved into over the years, particularly the "korn clone" accusation I've heard bandied about even outside of this thread. Each of their albums have a fairly varied mix of songs these days, even if they do have a definite aesthetic going at this point. I'm not a huge fan, but I don't really think they're horrible.

Sometimes 'popular' and 'bad' are completely synonymous, which is really only a problem when the bad is taken seriously.

If 'quality' can exist in a cut of meat, or a pair of shoes, or an Italian suit... then it can certainly exist in music, as well as in people.

I'm just sayin...

Crazy Town's Super-Duper-Motherfucking-Dire-Oh-My-God-I-Wish-I-Could-String-Together-More-Words-To-Show-How-Much-This-Video-Sucks-Ten-Goat-Dicks cover of Refused's "New Noise" is enough to secure them a lifetime placement in my shitlist. Hell, not even my shitlist, my kill-on-sight list. Not just that, my "go back in time and kill Sarah Connor Crazy Town" list too.

I guess the one band of that ilk that's still kicking to some extent would be Nada Surf, who had a hit in the 90's and came back a few years ago as an indie act, and they got some fairly good press and are well liked, as far as I know.

Nada Surf are pretty alright.

I saw them little over a year ago with Seawolf and won't lie loved their show.

So, my family had it's Christmas celebration early, since we are leaving Christmas day, and guess what my dad got my brother? A creed CD and an Alter Bridge CD, since I used to like them, and my brother was asking about them, apparently.

The most unbelievable part? It is still going to be better than what he normally has playing.
