This comic was so unbelievably epic, that I now think Jeph is 10 times cooler. it blew my mind, it came from nowhere, answered out calls for Steve's return, and in a totally kick ass way. I've just said only things you could have/probably did think of yourself, but I needed to rant to someone about how epic htis was.

Steve isn't the most popular, he's just the likable everyman/best friend character, and in spite of that we never see him.

Today's comic was the funniest in a long time. I didn't really like Meena or Dave, but I hope Steve drops in at least occasionally.

It's exactly not that. This comic absolute proof this is as much Steve as we do need. This wouldn't be nearly as much fun if we saw him every other strip. The last time I enjoyed Steve this much was when he escaped after being stuck in a closet for weeks. (A guest strip way back when).

Now Steve needs to disappear again, then come back in about six months (our time), having been transported to the Planet of Spunky, Chunky Mary-Lou Retton clones to give them personal infusions of genetic material, and then been brought back a trifle run down. There were forty million of them, after all.

But seriously, that's sad for Steve. At least he came out on top in the end. And it's nice to have a little absurdism injected back in the comic, after all the drama and whatnot.

This reminds me of some trivia I read a while back about the TV show Alias...apparently J.J. Abrams first came up with the idea for the show when he was serving as the executive producer of Felicity, and he sort of half-seriously kicked around an idea where Felicity would go off for the summer and become a secret agent, then come back in the fall like nothing had happened.

Oh, and this comic didn't JUST jump the shark.

It jumped the shark, grabbed onto a low-flying Apache helicopter, hijacked it, and blasted the fuck out of the shark with the machine gun.

But, mere shark jumping... I think that was done in comic 1, with Pintsize.
