Martin's Dad
« on: 05 Mar 2009, 18:06 »

Is anyone besides me really really curious as to how Martin's dad looks, and how he behaves?

The idea of a flamboyant 20+ year aged Martin just amuses me, even though it seems the majority of Martin's looks seem to come from his mother.

What do you guys think?

I've been curious, and it's an appealing idea for him to show up, but ...

Given a choice, wouldn't it be funnier to have Hannelore's dad show up? Marten's dad, from what we've heard, is relatively normal. Hannerdad sprays weirdness wherever he goes.

I would actually rather see Marten's dad,  precisely because he's still a normal guy with an interesting history, rather than the over-the-top weirdness that is Hanners' whole family. Once the weirdness hits a saturation point, anything more is lost on me.

I might not be remembering it, but what makes you think that Marten's dad is flamboyant?

As a homosexual myself, I'm probably earning a lot of groans. I'm not flamboyant myself, so thats probaby why I think the stereotype is so amusing. Just the image of an older, flouncing MartEN (Yes, I can spell!Gasp!) just amuses me.

I suppose it's not as much that he's gay it's that he's gay and he's a night club owner that would increase suspicion of him being flamboyant. :p

That aside, I never imagined a flamboyant gay when I imagined Marty's dad. ... My image of him is a tough-looking muscular man with an epic and fun-loving personality. Maybe acting flamboyant sometimes just for laughs.
In fact, I think the "night club owner" thing is just a cover. I think he's part of the USDoKYA with Steve.

Dora: I didn't expect him to be so... uh...
Marten: ... what?
Faye: ... Manly.
Marten: ... thanks...

Something like Chandler's dad in Friends would be if he wasn't in drag all the time (or was it a full blown sex change?)

I must have completely missed the appearance, or mention, of Marten's dad. Are there any archive genies who feel like looking them up?

I just got the image of a midwife and a woman giving birth swinging towards each other on a trapeze - when they meet, the midwife pulls the baby out. The knife juggler is standing on the floor and cuts the umbilical cord with a a knifethrow.

Ah yes, now I remember. 'Colder than a penguin's third nipple'. That one was great. Thanks!

A gay guy that owns a nightclub and fathered a child with a famous fetish model?  I bet he could make one hell of a cameo.

Who is Martin?

 :-P

just kidding. I guess there's a tendency to associate "gay" and "nightclub owner" with the characters in that "Birdcage" movie (both french and US versions had the stereotype cross-dresser that talks about himself in feminine ultra-gay with a good heart), but I don't think there's any reference to Marten's dad filling this part- for all we know, he could be a butch "Tom Of Finland" Hell's Angel type owner of a S&M gay nightclub (another stereotype, I know).

Who is Martin?
That's easy. He's the guy who gave the Worry Hat to Hannelore. He shares an apartment with Fay.

just kidding.
Me too.
