Drum machine software
« on: 30 Mar 2009, 21:25 »

I was wondering if anyone knew of any cool drum machine software I could put on my laptop. Free/easy to acquire using non-money related methods would be preferred, but if you have other recommendations then fire away.

You can get Rebirth for free as a torrent, pro software. It's an 808/909 simulator, really old school (built for Windows 98 I believe) and sort of archaic, but if you absolutely have to be legit and like that 808 feel, go for it.

Otherwise, grab Reason wherever. Redrum is highly intuitive and versatile (Dr. Rex loops help fill things out too) I do believe I owe you a copy, miss Squawk.

Not free but if you can find a copy of Acid Loops it is pretty easy to use. I used it on my lappy a long time until I got my mc-808.

Hydrogen is free and pretty dang easy. You can use your own samples and the mixer and included gain filter are flexible enough for most people.

if you don't have a mac just go with reason or rebirth, but if you have a mac don't look for anything else than garageband

Shortcircuit is a nice sampler. You can get free and affordable samples to fill it at sites like rhythm-lab.com and goldbaby.co.nz

I've always liked this, it has an 808 and a 909 machine for free and you can record stuff (never tried that out though). It might not be powerful or flexible enough for you, but it sure good to use. Fun fact: I actually found out about it through this forum.
