I'll go with maddness (as I often do, only without the second d), with a caveat: I suspect that one of the things wrong with Angus's last lady was that she wasn't Faye. I"ll agree that Faye was being her oft-miserable self when acted as if a fifty-person block party was, I don't know, in her bedroom or something (wouldn't that be interesting?), but I'll give her a break because I think she senses Angus isn't 'over' her, and it makes her nervous. It's one thing to have a relationship with manwhore Sven: having someone actually *want* you is something entirely different. Faye sabotaged the last one; it would hardly be surprising if she tried to do the same this time, too.
I still say Angus is desperate. He thinks he's found 'the one,' and she's free at the moment—but how long will that last? Any time now, her former relationship might be back on track, and Angus's chance blown. I respect him for trying his hardest to be cool about it (as opposed to the last go round that some love to frame as 'Stalker in Action'), but underneath, as the glasses offer reveals, he's got it bad for the girl.
Which means he's doomed. The gods and those like them feel compelled to dump on folks like Angus: it's a compulsion. His ruin, I fear, is coming.
