Sonic Youth is real good summer music, for me. "Sugar Kane" especially.

The album "Everybody Knows This is Nowhere" by Neil Young.

I feel like Beach House should sound more summery than they do, you know, cause they're named Beach House? Same thing with the All Girl Summer Fun Band. They're kinda summery, but not enough to merit putting it in the title.

Is this for reasons outside of laziness?
Most of them is ideological (i.e. pollution is not that good) + living somewhere practical to get around by bike or public transport (i.e. easy to stand by ideals that don't make your life harder!).  One is neurosis.

Are confused people in North America?  I was amazed by how car-centric most suburbs / urbs (heh) were in the US, only been to Toronto but don't remember it being much different.

Annnnnyway...

Going back to the very first post, it's not something to sing along too, but the closest to something me and my friends would drive around to in summer is the KLF's Chill Out.  Such good road trip music.  Better after dark, admittedly.

See the problem with where I live, my age, and me getting a job, is everything that makes me want to get a car. I am totally for riding my bike to reasonable distances, but it comes down to the fact that I am getting a job about an hour and a half bike ride away; my parents aren't constantly there to give me a ride, nor do I want to ask for one.

I don't want to keep this thread off topic so, pretty much the entire Silent Movie album by Quiet Village.

Sounds of Summer by the Beach Boys.

Also, "Good Day Sunshine" and "Here Comes the Sun" by the Beatles.

And "Summer Song" by Joe Satriani.

With a close second being "I'm On A Boat." Hehe.

I will never understand why people think this is funny.  Seriously this song is like the second or third to worst thing I ever heard of.  And I use "song" loosely.

mmmm american football in the heat

oh man, football in august.  good times.

Hate to nitpick, but are you talking about two different songs, as in "Summertime" by both Sublime, and by The Pharcyde?  Only because I was going to say "Doin' Time" by Sublime, but I think we're thinking of the same song here.

Almost anything by the Beach Boys.

Anything by The Weepies

El Guincho or Coconot (Same person except he has a couple of bandmates in Coconot)

Basically i would say that i listen to more country/folk/blues during the summer with a bit of electro thrown in for variance.

I second these two as well. Even though "Antarctica" is more of a winter song (I put it on a winter mix!), the rest of Hideaway is great for summer and I'm sure I'll be wishing it was colder on the days where I feel like I'm going to melt if I step in direct sunlight.

That's also where they make Tabasco sauce!

As for summer music, I definitely tend to listen to a bit more folk than usual i think.  I made it a tradition since I got my license (going on the third summer) to spend the first really nice summery day driving around (mostly on the Garden State Parkway) listening to Born to Run.  For some reason (this is really really lame) I usually listen Dashboard Confessional's A Mark, A Mission, A Brand, A Scar towards the beginning of the summer, but I think this is because it reminds me of a crush I had one summer a few years ago.  I'm sure there's a bunch of other music I'm forgetting.

Also, "I'm On a Boat" is great.

I'm surprised nobody said Summer Madness by Kool and the Gang. There's a pretty sweet remix to the original. Just some nice music to listen to while just chillin' outside and enjoying the day or night :)

Ah good call.  Nightmares On Wax's 'Night's Interlude' is basically a medley / mash-up of 'Summer Madness' and the instrumental bits from Quincy Jones' version of 'Summer In The City'.  That's a touch summery.

Thirding "Meanderthal" by Torche. It's probably just the most positive upbeat doom metal you can listen to, as oxymoronic as that sounds. It fucking rules for summer (or any time).

YES

Plus the videos are effing awesome, and really fitting, and even tie in together!

"Healer", the rockingest track on the record, gets a video of the guys just ROCKING THE FUCK OUT:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NxiVmPomJEk&fmt=18

"Across The Shields" gets a much trippier treatment though, and it works perfectly!
