At least the 49ers made it a game worth watching until the end, and they had their legit shots to win it.

On the other end of the spectrum of sports excellence, we have the Cal Tech baseball team snapping a 228-game losing streak. Their in-conference losing streak is still going at 463 (since 1988), however.

That was the strangest game I've ever seen. The only thing that could have really topped it is if that one bad punt by the Ravens would have been returned for a Touchdown.

Something that has never happened in Super Bowl history, by the way.

Want to sound smart in front of your (American) football-loving friends? Throw this out at them:

Three things have never happened in Super Bowl history:
1. No team has ever returned a punt for a touchdown.
2. No team has ever been shutout.
3. There has never been an overtime game.

Honestly, I was hoping that the Ravens botched the drop kick after the safety.

Would have given the 49ers a chance to execute the verrrrrry rarely seen fair catch kick and force OT.

Speaking of which - JJ wins the 500, and Her Racy-ness finishes eighth after being in the top three as the white flag dropped.

You know sometimes the Sharks disappoint me and watching them let Chicago swoop a piece of history the other day, well, that was one of those times.

We started out so fucking strong this season and now we're just kinda meh. At least Niemi's doing his job well.

And now for something completely different.

I firmly believe that someday there will be a female kicker in the NFL, but it’ll probably be a preseason publicity stunt and she’ll never actually be on the field.

I don't know if I have expressed my feelings on Ryane Clowe being a Shark, and I'm a fat n00b to the sport and I know it, but as a Sharks fan I am embarrassed of him. Every fucking game it seems like he's got at least 2 minors, no goals all season, and the last time I saw him (I missed the Flames game) he was to blame for losing a puck to the Canucks (the god damn Canucks, dude) and letting them score.

While I watched that Canucks game with Matt he brought up a great point that Clowe's trying to be a finesse player without having the skills for it. And throwing temper tantrums at a moment's notice is costing the team power plays. We're lucky to have a great penalty kill as well as Niemi's phenomenally good goaltending, but I think Clowe's dragging the team down HARD.

Last I heard from Preds fans, you already have a similar player in Rich Clune.

Speaking of underperforming Central Division players, my boy Vladimir Tarasenko. He's just...fallen off the earth after his concussion. I haven't heard ANYTHING about his recovery at all. Honestly hope his NHL career doesn't end after just 17 games.

Wouldn't have happened without Burns being a fucking savage, and getting Torres as a replacement for Clowe didn't hurt either, dude's been doing work. I actually do have pretty high hopes, it wouldn't have happened before the trades.

Thanks amigo, I'm loving it so far! I'm just sad there won't be hockey for a while after the Cup. And if they have another gigantic lockout, well, I'm gonna be pissed.

As for the Blues, well, they've been playing an energetic game of hockey all season, far as I remember. And I think the Hawks musta realized that they're still in the playoffs and would maybe be wise to be less energetic in the final game of the regular season, save it for a game that matters.

I think that is directed at me, and no worries, I'm a Welshman diving into American, and I assume Canadian rivalry.  Closest I can compare to that is England vs Wales in rugby, I'd like to assume any rugby fan knows that is one of the biggest rivalries in the sport of rugby.

In fairness, I did say ignore me if it came to it, I'm new here and treading water.

On a football (American Handegg) note, looks like the S.S. Tim Tebow has sailed from New York and pretty much sunk immediately.
