It's funny to look in this thread and only see the equivalent of the Voynich manuscript :D

Did you know they figured out what the Voynich Manuscript is? It's the ancient equivalent of a D&D core book.

Well.

That was a beatdown of epic proportions.

I'll reiterate that I didn't pay the game much mind, I was actually at the theatre during the second half. But one touchdown away from a shutout...that would've been cool.

I watched the game with my band family, and all of them enjoy sports. Half of us were asleep by the end of the game. Denver didn't even show up, what a disgrace.

Least I got my Manning tears.

There are always three things I root for in a Super Bowl:

1. A shutout game.
2. An overtime game.
3. A punt return for a touchdown.

The reason is simple: none of the three have ever happened in the 48 years the NFL has been doing this Super Bowl thingy.
So your ideal would be a game that goes 0-0 into overtime, and then is won by a punt return for a touchdown?

Come to think of it, that would be the first time a Super Bowl has ended without either team scoring any points by kicking.

My friend said the closest thing she had to religion was hockey. So I wrote her some scripture.

Quote
And lo did Gretzky come amongst the people and say "Keep holy thy sacred game day, and honor it with the consumption of hopped beverages and fatty meats, wearth the colors of thine devotion openly and proudly, and challenge believers of other sects in public, while those who root for other teams may be flawed in thine eyes, thou must remember that those who follow the lesser sports such as Baseball, Football and Shuffleboard are but misguided lambs, as you once were, and must be lead to the truth, usually by watching someone score a sweet hat trick during a high stakes game"

Top one would be totally redeemable if he would look behind him.  He's too far behind to help with the one-on-one, but he should be looking to pick up a rebound, and looking over his shoulder in case an opponent is trying to join the rush.

Ovechkin's body language is poor, but he's late, and it's really the D in front that screws this up.

That Peverly scene last night was pretty darned sobering.  Glad the cancelled the game.

EDIT:  Loved Coach Ruff's comment to the press - those guys in the locker room have no interest in playing hockey right now, and I have no interest in convincing them to.

Remember when we were all questioning the viability of the NFL holding regular season games in London?  MLB will start the regular season this year with games in Sydney.

This is apparently what happens when a baseball diamond is dropped onto a cricket oval.

Quote from: Prices
Platinum   $499.00*
Gold Grandstand   $369.00*
Gold Concourse    $369.00*
Silver   $259.00*
Bronze    $189.00*
Outfield   $99.00*
Grandstand Outfield   $69.00*

*A one-off service/delivery fee from $5.10 per transaction applies. A credit/debit card processing fee from 1.95% will apply.

Or for 1/9 the price, you can just go to a game in the U.S.

That obviously doesn't include the plane ticket and accommodations.

It's not unusual to put a baseball diamond on a cricket pitch, especially in Australia. The Aussies *do* play baseball, as I can attest (Graehme Lloyd, Dave Nilsson).

I didn't realize cricket fields were so big. Those people in the green and red sections aren't going to be able to see a damn thing.

When I was growing up in Cleveland, the worst seats at Jacobs Field were $10. I spent a lot of time in those bleachers (although there was often a chance to improve your seating situation). Those people are going to be a lot further away than that, and they have to pay almost $70 for the privilege.

Fun news for me: Sharks beat the Ducks 3-2 last night to reach #1 in the Pacific. Just in case any of you doubters from earlier in the season weren't paying attention. An Anaheim win would've almost surely seen the Ducks clinch the playoffs down the line.

Winnipeg have been a franchise for way less than 40 years, and Ottawa have a Cup within the last 40 years of their operation (non-contiguous, obviously).

Toronto haven't even been in a finals in forever.

One thing about each of the major-league North American sports having 30 franchises apiece is that it means on average there will be 30 years between championships. Just picking names out of a hat, probabilities suggest there will be lots of 50 or 60 year droughts even before considering the relative abilities of management to field quality teams. Factor that in and it doesn't take much to imagine at least a handful of franchises in each sport having streaks to rival the Cubs over time.

If you stop to think about it, the Cubs' failure to even get to the World Series for 69 years now is more impressive than the Yankees winning all those World Series in the same time frame.

Great, baseball season again. Ugh. I fucking hate baseball. Never heard of a sport that had more of an overwhelmingly self-righteous attitude among the fanbase, and the following is my story.

I spent 3 years of my life trying to learn about baseball because I found it interesting. After having never grown up around sports, followed by 5 years of living in Europe, where baseball is almost unheard of, it was fascinating, exhilarating. I moved back to the U.S. in 2009, my best friend (a Giants fan) got me started watching baseball at the start of 2010, and lo and behold, SF wins the World Series. I was stoked, because my best friend was stoked. The overwhelming majority of baseball fans, upon the discovery that I was a new fan, accused me of being title residue, nothing but some shithead bandwagon fan. Never felt more belittled by something so trivial in my entire life.

I'm just one man, so my absence from the ranks of baseball fans won't impact the sport. But I am still a man, with every right to enjoy a sport for my own reasons, regardless of how long I've been a fan. Treat new fans with patience and respect. Don't bully them into not liking the sport altogether.

Shark hunting time.

We win, we live to fight yet another day - and on house money, essentially.

We lose, we're finally out of our misery for the season, and we can play for jobs for next season.

I have a ticket to their final game at Olympic Stadium, somewhere in my memorabilia.

Yeah, I cheated and went online to purchase it - but it was through mlb.com on the day of the game, and even though there was no way in the world I was going to end up in Montreal that night, I had a ticket for the game.
