I dunno about anyone else, but the people I spend meatlife time around (and myself) say dude to mean any person at all.

My favourite usage of this is in the office when we're in big serious art review meetings the art manager wishes an artist to add some people to a piece of art: "Stick some dudes in it."

Female equivelant of bro is Biddie, bitty, biddy, bittie-snack, biddy-slice, freshman bittie,  or any variation thereof.

But it's definitively bittie in some form.

The only time I ever enjoyed using "bro" was when I called a friend of mine Charles Brodelaire because he was hung over beyond all recognition after making the mistake of going to a frat party. (Even in graduate school frats are annoying...)

Srsly cannot believe people speak like this unironically.

Thing is, from past experience, once you start using a turn of phrase ironically, it's not too long before it just becomes part of your vocabulary and everyone kinda forgets it was originally an ironic thing. This happened for like a year with friends of mine and "l337speak" - we'd dot our speech with it as a joke and then suddenly it become automatic. Horrible.

I say dude to mean girls and guys.  I say bro for dudes and girly girl for girls...

"sup dude?"
"Sure Bro."
"Hey girly girl."

and sometimes I just say girly and drop the girl.
"Whats up girly?"

I once heard someone refer to someone else as a "girly friend." When we questioned her about that expression, she explained "well she isn't your girlfriend, but she is your friend and is a girl."

I am imagining you in a dimly lit room, a single light bulb hanging in the middle. I think you're the bad cop, and there is this poor girl ready to burst into tears at a crummy looking table as you're yelling at her.

This thread's pretty much run its course, but I can't lock it until you've all helped me determine what the proper female form of "bro" is. We all know that the female form of "dude" is "dudette", and logic would suggest that the female form of "bro" would be "sis" or "broette", but "sis" doesn't convey that essential bro-ness, while "broette" is just awkward to say.

I'm leaning towards either "brosephine" (female of the relatively well-established "broseph") or "ladybro".

Thoughts?
... Sis...?

Thanks entirely to this thread, I was walking down the street thinking about which classical composers had names which would lend themselves to being broified. Brozart, Brohms, Rachbrominov, Tchabrovsky...
