Freeman: June 14th
Ozymandias:
ITT Bryan is a grumpy old gamer who is angry at people who are excited because he isn't
Johnny C:
jens covered it, mostly. bryan, you've got an interesting point, but to be fair to valve the reason everyone gets excited about a mysterious bit of nothing from valve is that 1) it's usually at least semi-clever and 2) they've earned it by releasing like nothing but top-shelf material for over a decade.
you're right that it's really a different way to feed the exact same hype machine, and that valve manages to do so at the drop of a hat with little to no information.
Johnny C:
on the other hand, ep 3 is going to be awesome and the gman there made me shit my pants

I don't even think this is true. Like I said, when Portal 2 comes out I will be there on Day 1. I'm a little skeptical at how well the gameplay concepts will hold up for a full-length retail game (since that's how they're selling it, at the very least) but I'll buy it anyway if for no other reason than the Eric Wolpaw/Chet Faliszek team are the best writers in the game industry not named Tim Schafer or Chris Avellone.

I certainly wouldn't call Episode 1 top-shelf, but otherwise I agree. Still, if people think Valve's 'nice-guy' persona is entirely altruistic they're extremely naive. On top of that, even if this announcement is finally for Episode 3, when's it coming out? If you think it's any earlier than a year from now, or to reiterate three and a half years after their last 3-hour expansion, then you're kidding yourself.
KvP:
Episode 1 was really boring.
Anyway at this point I'm just hoping they get Ep 3 out the door so they can establish a game on a newer iteration of Source. It lasted a good many years (I still think it looks better than most UE3 games) but it is now getting way too old.
