Normally I wouldn't regard the sort of joint that has paper-napkin dispensers on the table as dinner-date-worthy (in Australia that is normally the mark of a fast-food eatery, transport café etc.), but Dora did brief Angus that it was Faye's favorite place, so I'll give him a pass.

Agreed -- that detail seemed jarring to me, and more befitting a fast food joint or a diner, especially since the rest of the setting looks like "nice restaurant" decor (cloth-draped tables, wooden chairs, water glasses).  No biggie, though.  Some restaurants can be idiosyncratic.

It appears that the only insertion Angus will be experiencing this evening is his foot in his mouth -- so basically, he ordered the usual.  ^_^  I think he was probably joking in panel 2, but he has earnest-face, which means he was playing the role (saying it as if he meant it instead of making it obvious he didn't), instead of giving his usual snark-face.  And then he held the earnest-face, until he went to full-on floundering.  Which means . . . it's possible he actually wasn't joking.  In which case, oh dear.

Faye may be self-sabotaging -- when isn't she -- but mostly she's recycling.  "Hey, Marty got a kick out of this story; I'll tell Angus!"  And so she learns, different boy, different situation, different result.  Win?

Sidenote: Faye seems to have ordered the gnocci with Alfredo sauce, where Angus has gotten a steak.  Does that count as cannibalism on his part?

Funny, I happened on this just the other night:

As for the table napkins - lots of pizzerias have pasta, primi, and secondi sections on the menu. Pizzerias also benefit from the presence of extra / spare napkins. No worries; I don't think Faye's favorite spot would be a fast-food pizza joint.

Why has no one yet mentioned the bizarre rarity that is Faye in a dress? The suggestion that she likes Angus enough to shave her legs for him is a big step for my favorite QC girl.

If you want obscure, tell me what vibrophone, Trebuchet and Coelacanth have in common...

They were all in Animal Crossing?

If I'm not mistaken, the "Alphabet Trick" was the invention of the late lamented Sam Kinison...

Well, he popularized it, anyway. Nothing like screaming about it on stage to spread the word.

And yes, I think Angus was joking, doing the best he could with an already awkward situation.

Faye may be self-sabotaging -- when isn't she -- but mostly she's recycling.  "Hey, Marty got a kick out of this story; I'll tell Angus!"  And so she learns, different boy, different situation, different result.  Win?
Of course, you are talking about the guy she kept telling 'no way, no how.' Plus, unless that's not Sven she's talking about, this 'first time' you're talking about would have to be after Marten was very safely out of reach. Thinking about it, though, talking about your sex-life to a guy you led on like crazy also seems a bit twisted. Maybe Dora needs to beat Faye again.

As for the joint, it looks like any one of thousands of 'word-by-mouth' places that people get smug about 'discovering.' You know, "the waiters are rude, they use paper napkins and serve wine in Dixie cups, but the food is divine!"

I've been trying not to comment on Faye's fashion choices; I think she's out of practice. Pale blue and mauve? Not ideal colour choices IMHO for a girl who's probably an Autumn, and has brown eyes and chestnut (?) hair. Get into the warm colours girl, and leave the pale blues to Hanners and Penny!

:police: <--- Fashion Police. Edit: Possibly a ripe avocado palette (I might have got the dress a little too mustardy)?

The green jacket (or is it a cardigan?) over the yellow dress makes Faye look like a half-shucked corn-cob. A paler yellow would indeed be better.

What? Make the changes instead of just carping about Akima's work? You must be mad.

Faye is the 'our' girl we've grown up with over the years, but I think these steps displayed are, despite being seemingly relatively modest are super productive!

Frankly if these two court for the rest of all time, the out come being dry cereal box fiction, I think is still an awesome outcome!

Since I haven't been here lately I'll be a bit old meme:

1. Scott Pilgrim is to men as Twilight is to women? Uhhhhh. I take offense at that statement. Neither the comic nor the movie is just for you, guys. There were lots and lots of girls at the premiere, me among them, and I was the one who dragged my male friend there.

2. Yes, the trailer DOES show the worst parts of the movie. Or at least parts that look really stupid out of context. It all works much, much better within the film as a whole. And the film was truly, surprisingly awesome. You all should go see it.

3. Well duh, of course "Africa" is the best.

Frankly sir if you hadn't just pointed out how awesome Africa is, I would be having all kinds of internet rage.  Which is like the second or third worst kind.

Toto? TOTO?! What person these guys' age (twenties, right?) listens to Toto? I mean, Toto IV* came out in 1982–I was in high school at the time. Faye and Angus'd have to be no more than two or so to miss being thirty now.

Besides, everybody knows their best song was "Rosanna."

*Africa and Rosanna were both on this album.

Surprise?  :?

Well... y'know... they seemed kinda surprised!  I mean Faye is totally blushing!  That counts, right?

Toto? TOTO?! What person these guys' age (twenties, right?) listens to Toto? I mean, Toto IV* came out in 1982–I was in high school at the time. Faye and Angus'd have to be no more than two or so to miss being thirty now.

Pfft half my music selection is made of stuff released before I was born or a few years after.

As for the comic - aw, I liked the end. I see it less of a surprise kiss and more of a "sudden impulse" kiss, which is better.

I can't resist... I guess Faye and Angus aren't in Kansas any more, Toto.

"Africa" is a great song. And I listen to J.S.Bach. That doesn't make me over 250 years old despite what you might have heard about Taoist medicine...
