Enlighten me in the ways of good music
Tom:
The Besnard Lakes
Bottomless Pit/Silkworm
Deerhunter's Microcastle
Broken Social Scene
K.C. Accidental
Liars (start with their self-titled, it's their most straight forward)
Mission of Burma (I probably couldn't live without Signals, Calls and Marches or Vs.)
My Bloody Valentine
Okkervil River
Polvo (I'd just start with their first, Cor-Crane Secret and continue forward to Exploded Drawing)
Seam's Are you driving me crazy?
Braid (Age of Octeen is a pretty sweet album)

--- Quote from: SWOON! at My Gravitas on 05 Nov 2010, 13:30 ---Also good places to start metal-wise are Baroness and Torche. Both are very accessible
You also might like Jesu, which sounds a bit like shoegaze except with guitars tuned to drop A

Hey, thanks for this. I don't know shit about metal except that I dislike black metal, shred metal, and tech metal, and all those sorts of metal that "real metalheads" mostly listen to, find Iron Maiden and Judas Priest sometimes great but largely boring as fuck, sometimes guiltily indulge in 80s hair metal and Lordi-style power metal, and love the shit outta Type O Negative and Torche.
I just checked out some Baroness and they're excellent. Working on Jesu now.

--- Quote from: Kwaping on 05 Nov 2010, 12:37 ---Good call on Camera Obscura and Caribou. I also suggest:
The Bird and the Bee
She & Him
Real Estate
Broken Bells
Belleruche
Mogwai
Telekinesis
Here We Go Magic
The Very Best
Ratatat
Yeasayer
The Bamboos
--- End quote ---
all of these are in the "wink wink" thread too!

StaedlerMars:
