Enlighten me in the ways of good music
Alex C:
--- Quote from: Ballard on 05 Nov 2010, 15:53 ---I just checked out some Baroness and they're excellent.

I feel like I sorta failed you as a poster here, because although I remember a few of us furiously fellating Baroness's Red Album back in '07, clearly that wasn't enough.
And yeah, more people should give Type O Negative a shot. There's nothing I could say about about Peter Steele's persona that isn't already perfectly explained by single listening session of Bloody Kisses.
Harun:
stay away from pitchfork and other similar sites that just write biased reviews with an unnecessary amount of pompous adjectives and descriptions of the music that don't really make sense unless you're already aware of their music.
for discovering music, last.fm and ratyourmusic is were it's at. last.fm has a great 'similar artists' feature, and recommends you similar artists you've been listening to. rateyourmusic is great for cataloging all your music and discovering new bands based on genre/year/anything.

(Yes I know the second one is not on that album, :P )
KvP:
First off, get you some Scissor Sisters.
Then, get some Nurse With Wound.
Then you get a whole bunch of crystal meth and hole up in your apartment until you've developed a refined taste.
valley_parade:
Gene, how have you never heard Jesu? I know you're a filthy hipster and all, but...Jesu!
And in the vein of Jesu, FUCKING LISTEN TO NADJA. It's less shoegaze, more droney.
