I don't consider it a guarantee that Marten will lose Faye's friendship-but look at the expression on Faye's face at Marten's comment-she seems actually HURT by his comment. At the very least they're certainly going to be in the Awkward Zone for awhile. This may require some damage control. But the Faye-Marten ship is definitely sunk, with prejudice. Unfortunately for Marten, who with his personality, character and dating history, may not date again for months or longer in comic time (years our time, maybe for the rest of the comic).

As a fellow guy with a normal guy's sex drive, I feel deeply for Marten, he'll need his vanilla porn collection to sustain him.

joepa:
First off: to those of you who are saying that Jeph has no intention of getting Marten and Faye into a relationship, I think you're right (at least for the foreseeable future of the comic).  That being said, the romantic tension between the two has been a defining theme of these characters--and even of the comic itself--since the very beginning.  I don't think it will be going away any time soon.

Also, in response to TheBiscuit: Martin's lunging for some T&A at the end of the strip may have been a product of an alcohol-enhanced libido, but his lament about breaking through Faye's defenses, only to see her end up with other guys, seemed to be heartfelt.

Oh and Carl-E: It's been said that the only people who hate JoePa are Nazis and Pitt fans  :-D.  I'll go ahead and assume you're still bitter about Joe ruining your perfect season in '81.  No hard feelings though; it's not like this is the PennLive forum.

TheEvilDog:
I think the problem was more to do with the fact that the comment dredged up memories with Sven, she rushed into sex with him and got horribly burned. She's taking her time with Angus which could potentially, (potentially now, before someone corrects me), result in her being frozen out of the relationship. And then theres Veronica and Marten, telling her it would have been a disaster, when, in her mind, if things had been different, that relationship could have been just right.

I'll stop with the Goldilocks analogy now....

And Biscuit, even with true friends, there are certain things you never joke about with them. In Faye's case, its jokes about suicide, Hanners, it's germs, bacteria, mildew, mess...really the list is exhaustive. Its especially true in real life, amongst my circle of friends, they know I can laugh at just about anything, general or vulgar, but if one of them makes a joke about someone having a stroke, or a heart attack, I'll leave the room. There are just some no-go topics with people, that, no matter the circumstances, will never be funny to them. Sometimes, that pain is just too nasty to be made light of, and for some people it can be enough to ruin even the steadiest friendships.

Oh great. More comics that aren't fun to read.  :-(

I thought maybe we could get back to something enjoyable now that Marten's mom has left.

Kugai:
Well, now we know  Marten has been in Veronicas presence for just a wee bit too long.   :-D

Talk about sticking both your feet down your throat.
