Can we make this thread off-limits to people who have less than 400 posts or something? this is getting ridiculous.

The only thing I can say about this, is that I am sorry i haven't mentioned or uploaded this before.  Western Fifth created this album with a mission to leave an everlasting effect on its listeners.  I wouldn't go so far as saying this is country, or country-folk... it's more than that.  Don't let anything I said push you towards not listening to this group, because I can't really justify it.

Maylene is a sort of guilty pleasure of mine.  This album if you asked someone, would define its approach towards associating "southern metal" to its name.  A solid album, great guitar parts, southern, twangy and hard hitting.

Here we have a terrific, almost perfect album.  A reverberation of old school hardcore and punk rock, Modern Life is War was a band to be reckoned with.  Often touring with XXX bands and hardcore punk groups, they quickly emerged as one of the few, solid, dark existing punk rock bands.  With chants and pit riffs littered among an album with absolutely NO BREAKDOWNS, i think we have a fucking winner.

I didn't see this anywhere, and has a spare link.  I didn't upload this one, a friend of mine did. I'm not a huge fan of the Strokes, but this kinda mess is a little bit more style. I'm sure a lot of people dig it a lot more than myself.  Naturally, he will never be able to shake the sounds of the Strokes, but this is a tad bit more electronic, or a lot more.  I was really far behind the train, since I just now realized it was released.

Also, is it weird to anyone else that Paul Banks made his project's name Julian Plenti, just as Julian Casablancas had his CD released?

Music!

Shulman is an electronic psychedelic/ambient project.  Basically, it's really excellent music to get high to.  I've put up a fair amount of music similar to this over the past 6 months, by now the people who are interested in this kind of thing should know who they are.  I'm posting a link to a track from each album under the album link.

Hey, so, I dunno if this has been up here before. I don't really remember how I first heard about it, but the search function is shite so I can't check. Anyway, I've been listening to this album a bunch the last month or so and gotten really into it.

The Blue Angel Lounge are a band from Hagen, Germany that formed in 2004. They're named for a club in New York where Nico supposedly played her first solo shows.  This is their first album, a self-titled work that was finished and self-released last year, in February of 2009. On it, they play a kind of spacey psychedelic rock that recalls VU, Galaxie 500 and Spacemen 3. Their sounds are ghostly, jangly and spaced out. It's not the most original sound in the world, but the songs are tight and well-written.  The album feels older than it is, too elementary and classic to be the debut release of a 2000s band.  Something about listening to them causes a passion to well up in me as only excellent music can. It's the kind of thing I hear in my head, high and adrift at a party.

Last month the band got picked up by 8MM Musik and their album was distributed throughout records shops in Europe. The group are already working on a sophomore effort, supposedly with production assistance from Anton Newcombe. I'm not really sure how that works, but I hope the fact that he is a totally ridiculous individual doesn't negatively influence the band and their music.

Anyway, I hope some of you like it.

Fritzwicky - Time Flies (2009)

We put them in a shoe box, hoping someone would give them a good home - but the time has come let go and release them into the wild.

Our influences include Zappa, Volta, Faith No More and the Wiggles - though they don't come out so much in these recordings. Bit of a variety here - Ian is a hip-hop tinged alternative do, Bam is a much more basic and rhythm driven pop-punk-ish (?) tune, Index 13 jumps around a bit (but ends on a nice relaxing note), and L'allemand Souirant is kind of melodic and i guess a little more emotional (?!?) than the others... or something.

(god damn I hate describing music when I've had anything to do with it)

ELECTRIC PRESIDENT - the violent blue

Quote
Electric President is made up of Ben Cooper and Alex Kane from Jacksonville, Florida and The Violent Blue is the duo's third long player. The record is direct evidence of a band that has matured over the last six years and has evolved their sound into what you hear today. Gone is the bedroom pop of their debut and the inconsistency of direction that held back Sleep Well [2008]. Their earlier song structures have now been replaced with a more focused album that blends the group's electronic backgrounds with an overall shoegaze vibe, while still retaining engaging melodies that make The Violent Blue memorable. What really stands out here is that Electric President seems to have made a permanent commitment to their style, as each song feels complete and transitions well into the next. It has moments where the strong chorus holds your attention like on "Safe And Sound", while other tracks let you dive into the instrumentation, such as the over eight minute closer "All The Distant Ships". It is this balanced combination that makes The Violent Blue Electric President's best album to date and should garner them increased interest on the indie scene.

ITEM 1

Test Dept. and South Wales Striking Miners Choir - Shoulder to Shoulder

Quote
The album Shoulder To Shoulder was a collaboration between the industrial group Test Dept. and the South Wales Striking Miners Choir, recorded in support of the UK miners’ strike of 1984-1985. The album combined harsh industrial rhythms with traditional songs sung by the male choir, and also included poetry and speeches from the strike.

Still probably worth giving a shot, honestly. If you like it, try some of his older stuff - Filosofem, Det Som Engang Var, and Aske are personal favorites, but you might also like the ambient albums he put out while in prison - Dauđi Baldrs and Hliđskjálf.

In fact, if anyone wants a bigass Burzum post after hearing Belus, let me know. I'll toss it up if I find time.

For their first studio album, the Make-Up brought in producer Calvin Johnson, one of the leaders of the International Pop Underground the Make-Up is identified with. Johnson keeps the sound raw and ragged, which suits the band's kinetic, half-ironic, and totally sincere blend of indie-rock and the Stones. Songwriting isn't one of the Make Up's specialties -- very few of the individual songs stand out -- yet their overall sound is frighteningly energetic. The brittle production makes Sound Verite sound as if it would break in two at any moment, especially since the band keeps pushing themselves forward at a blinding speed.

ATO Records is pleased to announce the signing of Drive-By Truckers and their label debut, The Big To-Do. The album, which will be the band’s tenth in their thirteen-year career, is scheduled to be released March 16, 2010. The Big To-Do features thirteen new tracks from the Drive-By Truckers and was produced by their long time producer, David Barbe (Sugar, Bettye LaVette). “It’s very much a rock album,” says Patterson Hood of the Trucker’s upcoming release. “Very melodic and more rocking than anything we’ve done since disc 2 of Southern Rock Opera.”
The inspiration for The Big To-Do came to the band during their time on the road. “We’ve often set our songs and albums in different periods of time, but this one finds us directly in our present. Riding all through the highways of America (and Europe) trying to make sense of a very different world than the one we grew up in,” says Hood. “I don’t write a lot of songs on the road, but I did more than usual on this album and many more were inspired by or set there, either in a literal sense or something I witnessed or heard about while I was out there.”

Ganger - Hammock Style

Late 90's slintish post rock. Some great songs on here.

With Caralee McElroy gone, Jamie Stewart enlists new guests and experiments with 8-bit textures. It's still Xiu Xiu though: look at the title.

Years ago i gathered this from the P2P networks of yore. It is a hodge podge of assorted italo disco tracks and artists, quality varies but I figure it is a good place to start.
