I've been using sendspace again lately because mediafire is giving me problems. Mediafire is preferable because it is faster but using sendspace is by no means a huge offense. Trust me when i say this, because i made the rules.

Also, what the hell? we had an argument about twee when I was at work? And it didn't even have a part where we argued about cuddlecore and twee and whathaveyou?

*drumroll*

Grand Funk Railroad - Grand Funk

Quote
Grand Funk Railroad's 1970 somewhat eponymous album, their second for Capitol, is characteristic of the classic rock radio sound that would permeate the airwaves of the late 20th century. Grand Funk Railroad was a seminal force in giving the friendlier side of the heavy rock sound its charm and making it stick. Built on fuzzed-out blues riffs, simple lyrics, and at times seemingly unnecessary jamming, Grand Funk's songs are mild in nature. Far less extreme than Black Sabbath, but slightly toothier than Foghat or Bad Company, Grand Funk's major influence is from the loose, blues-based power trio formula of bands such as Cream and the Jimi Hendrix Experience. Grand Funk combines rawness with radio-friendly melodies and vocal harmonies that would become their trademark sound. Hordes of bands to come, from Foreigner to Bon Jovi, would emulate Grand Funk's sound and style, focusing on good-time rocking material while attempting a few token social commentary pieces. This is a good album as far as early hard rock goes, and as Grand Funk Railroad would move farther and farther away from the type of roughness and loose arrangements found here, it is well worth picking up as an example of one of their early efforts.

Since all the 65dos albums are already in this thread, I'll throw some ep's and other stuff on here as well.

65daysofstatic - Stumble. Stop. Repeat. EP

The unreleased/unreleasable duo are part original work by 65dos, part mashups and remixes of chart-pop. The latter can be a bit weird, but sometimes the results are actually pretty good. Personally I'm quite fond of "Natasha Beats The Devil", the looped vocals + breakbeat sample work really well.

Hey everyone. I leeched a few albums off of here recently and now I am going to start giving back.
The first three I am putting up here are pretty cool and awesome albums for you all.

13th Floor Elevators - Easter Everywhere

Code: [Select]
http://www.mediafire.com/?12m3tw5mae7
Quote
On their groundbreaking debut album, the 13th Floor Elevators sometimes sounded as if they were still learning how to work with the strange beast of their own creation known as psychedelic rock. But their second set, 1967's Easter Everywhere, found them a great deal more comfortable and confident with their loose and hypnotically trippy approach. Easter Everywhere doesn't have an out-of-the-box classic cut like "You're Gonna Miss Me" or "Fire Engine" from The Psychedelic Sounds of the 13th Floor Elevators, but in many ways it's a more cohesive and consistent work, and the subtle but effective structures of the longer tracks grow and develop through repeated listenings, while rockers like "She Lives (In a Time of Her Own)" and "Levitation" pack a surprisingly visceral punch. Stacy Sutherland was never a blazing guitar hero, but his concise aural punctuations on the epochal "Slip Inside This House" and a superb cover of Dylan's "It's All Over Now, Baby Blue" are perfectly suited to the material. In addition, the rhythm section of Dan Galindo on bass and Danny Thomas on drums locks these songs into place with confidence and skill. The strange patterns of Tommy Hall's electric jug playing are as gloriously bewildering as ever, merging the music of the spheres with an alien attack, and Roky Erickson's vocals make even the most acid-damaged poesy sound passionate, graceful, and wildly alive. And Roky and the Elevators never sounded sweeter and saner than they did on the penultimate tune, "I Had to Tell You," with Roky seemingly offering a postscript to his many sad years to follow with the words "If you fear I'll lose my spirit/Like a drunkard's wasted wine/Don't you even think about it/I'm feeling fine." Even if less influential than The Psychedelic Sounds of the 13th Floor Elevators, Easter Everywhere is every bit as compelling and a true benchmark of early psychedelic rock -- not bad for an album produced by Kenny Rogers' brother.

Throbbing Gristle - 20 Jazz Funk Greats

Code: [Select]
http://www.mediafire.com/?yzovkcnzfda
this is missing the last two tracks which are live versions of the same song if you want them ill up them later one
Quote
It's a break in the clouds from Throbbing Gristle's pummeling noise and a first glimpse at the continuing pop influence on the TG/PTV axis, but 20 Jazz Funk Greats still isn't best described by its title. If there is such a thing as a funky Throbbing Gristle LP, however, this could well be it. "Hot on the Heels of Love," "Hamburger Lady" and "Six Six Sixties" add only occasional bits of distortion between the rigid sequencer lines. 20 Jazz Funk Greats is the best compromise between TG's early industrial aesthetic and the reams of industrial-dance and dark synth-pop groups that used the album as a stepping stone to crossover appeal.

Funkadelic - Maggot Brain

Code: [Select]
http://www.mediafire.com/?x41dnxdtxhw
Quote
It starts with a crackle of feedback shooting from speaker to speaker and a voice intoning, "Mother Earth is pregnant for the third time, for y'all have knocked her up" and talking about rising "above it all or drown in my own sh*t." This could only have been utterly bizarre back in 1971 and it's no less so decades later; though the Mothership was well on its way already, Maggot Brain really helped it take off. The instrumental title track is the key reason to listen, specifically for Eddie Hazel's lengthy, mind-melting solo. George Clinton famously told Hazel to play "like your momma had just died," and the resulting evocation of melancholy and sorrow doesn't merely rival Jimi Hendrix's work, but arguably bests a lot of it. Accompanied by another softer guitar figure providing gentle rhythm for the piece, the end result is simply fantastic, an emotional apocalypse of sound. Maggot Brain is bookended by another long number, "Wars of Armageddon," a full-on jam from the band looping in freedom chants and airport-departure announcements to the freak-out. In between are a number of short pieces, finding the collective merrily cooking up some funky stew of the slow and smoky variety. There are folky blues and gospel testifying on "Can You Get to That" (one listen and a lot of Primal Scream's mid-'90s career is instantly explained) and wry but warm reflections on interracial love on "You and Your Folks, Me and My Folks," its drum hits distorted to give a weird electronic edge to the results. "Super Stupid" is a particular killer, pounding drums and snarling guitar laying down the boogie hard and hot, while "Hit It and Quit It" has a great chorus and Bernie Worrell getting in a fun keyboard solo to boot.

This is my first contribution. I'm a big post-rock fan, and just a big fan of music in general.

I guess Blueneck is classified as post-rock, but they are quite different from GYBE, EITS, etc etc. Kinda reminds me a little of Archive actually. Anyway, really good stuff, you guys should this out:

Neurosis and Tribes of Neurot - Times of Grace and Grace (combined)

In 1999, Neurosis released Times of Grace and Tribes of Neurot released a companion piece, Grace, meant to be played on a separate machine at the same time as Times of Grace.  This recording is a combination of the two albums, one played over the other.  It is some of the most brutally intense music ever recorded.  It will probably also appeal to the people who have gotten used to the kind of heavy/psychedelic/post-rock-y stuff I've uploaded in the past ... this stuff is extreme, to be sure, but it has a trippy feel to it that offsets the brutality and makes it damn near transcendent.  Heavily recommended.

american head charge - the war of art
- Ripped at 192kbps

Review from In Music We Trust - One of the best metal bands out there today, American Head Charge knows how to be vicious, wicked, and potent to the last drop. From gravel-y, growling vocals to crashing rhythms and manic guitar noise, The War of Art is as brutal, and yet melodic, as metal can get. One listen to this disc and you'll be head banging, blood pumping, body sweating, and fully under the control of this fearless rock powerhouse. I'll give it an A-.15

You just need to click the # button, which you can find above the box where you type your text right above the afro smiley. Then put the link between the tags. Alternatively, you can just type

and put the link in the middle (but remove the spaces I put in before the ]). So, your link would look like this:
http://www.mediafire.com/?ahnldxtmmjm
Errr I couldn't add the box which says code: I need a lesson... First post, if I've done anything wrong please don't shout at me too loud - I'm fragile!

The rules to the thread are right at the top of the page.

Or at least they should be. Who the hell forgot to post the rules.

Rules:

No hotlinking images or albums. You can rehost images at http://imageshack.us.

Ensure your tags are correct and that you have specified both Artist/Album in your post.

Upload your files in either a .zip or a .rar archive to mediafire.com, in multiple parts if the album is over 100mbs. The reason for this is that we know Mediafire is safe and efficient, and allows multiple downloads. The ads on other sites, such as Sendspace, are known to contain viruses on the page. Get yourself checked out.

Post your link using code tags. It's the # icon above the policeman emoticon. This prevents the links from being traced back to the forums, lowering the chance that the wrong people notice the thread, potentially threatening Jeph with legal action.

Also, please do NOT request albums.

More TG now.
Throbbing Gristle - D.O.A. - The Third And Final Report Of T.G.
My favourite TG album, it's surprisingly diverse, pretty much in the same way as 20 jazz funk. And it has We Hate You Little Girls, which is the absolute apogee of Gen's lyrical genius.

Architecture in Helsinki

Fingers Crossed

Quote from: amg
Architecture in Helsinki's debut, Fingers Crossed, introduces their very appealing collage of electronic and indie pop. While there are a lot of groups out there mixing these styles, this Australian octet's music stands out, and not just because they use tap dancing as an instrument. Even though the band uses a wide array of sounds, ranging from bass recorder to a host of analog synths and samplers, Architecture in Helsinki have an admirably restrained hand with their sonic arsenal.

Everything on In Case We Die, from the intensely sweet melodies and vocals to the widescreen production, delivers the kind of playful pop majesty that Fingers Crossed's best moments hinted were within Architecture in Helsinki's grasp. "More assured" doesn't mean "less creative" though; this is a second album that really does expand on the sounds and ideas of the debut instead of just rehashing them.

did you seriously just call me flavor flav?  I think I threw up a little in my mouth.

All I could think was The Flavor of Love and I proceeded to try to find something with which to gouge out my eyes.

Jackie/Trillian: I'm not entirely sure if I should feel like a dick telling you that all this flaunting is getting kind of annoying..? No offense or anything but this is the stuff PM's were invented for!

I'm sure it is!  As I have said before, though, it's no more annoying than the endless pointless reacharounds that happen in random threads all the time, generally by People Who Have Been Here Forever, so I don't really feel bad about it.

As long as they keep uploading bands as good as Cub while they're doing it I say it's fair enough.

I noticed on the Load website that this record was listed as out of print, which is a shame since it's great. The lyrics are first person descriptions of horribly murdering women and the music is the kind of nasty noise rock you would have found on Amphetamine Reptile so this isn't for everyone.

Brainbombs - Urge To Kill

Quote from: Load Records
Nobody knows what a Brainbomb is, but with the sounds of this record strapped close to your skull you will not need your fancy pants college thesaurus to figure out exactly what the meaning is. This record is maximum, in-the-red and dealing with more issues than a year of after school specials. Sounds like a fried out speaker blowing a mix of Detroit fueled orgy fun and evil bad-assery. Driving around in your car, being tired, picking up hitchhikers and killing them with hammers and screwdrivers - just some of the raunchy matter touched on in the 36 minute squirt of brain-burned bile. This shit is better than "Burning Hell", their middle finger classic of 1992. A Brainbomb is the hit to your head and the sound your head makes when it hits tarmac. I understand if you don't want to listen to a record that rocks dangerously. I also know where you live and when you get off work...

You've heard of the Hellacopters, Turbonegro, Gluecifer, and Union Carbide Productions. The North Countries know how to churn out the rock...hard. BRAINBOMBS decimate all these bands with their brutal thug rock. This isn't heavy metal, there is no boogie rock on this, and they are not punk rock. Brainbombs go for your jugular. Review this record, play these songs on your radio station. Isn't rock music an outlaw sound? Its not funny, its like hitting yourself with a hammer. Bands like Drunks with Guns and Whitehouse aren't funny either.

Danava - Unonou

Quote
Danava's new CD is a step up from their 2006 self-titled release. Unonou still has a retro, psychedelic vibe, but the band's songwriting has improved. They incorporate thick stoner metal style guitar riffs with synths that really give Danava a distinctive sound.

There are also a lot of progressive elements on this CD. The songs are mostly long ones, with the last track clocking in at over 13 minutes. There are some very sophisticated arrangements, which contrast nicely to the raw, fuzzy guitars. It does get a bit self-indulgent at times, but Unonou will have a lot of appeal to those who like their stoner metal a little on the proggy side.

It's psychedelic rock with heavy and progressive overtones, and vocals that are half Ozzy, half Hawkwind.  I really like it.  Get it if you enjoyed Titan, Earthless, or any of the other proggy heavy-psych bands I've upped.
