It's way past time that I stop lurking/downloading great music without giving something back. =)  So, hello.

I've been listening to this one a ton recently...it's an Israeli guy, Idan Raichel, who works with 70 other musicians and mixes Hebrew, Arabic, Ethiopian, and Yemenite to create something wonderful.  I pretty much only understand the Hebrew, but even if you don't get all the words it just sounds great.  The liner notes have many of the lyrics translated (at least, the American/International version does...not the Israeli albums).  Anyway, enjoy!

The Idan Raichel Project (International version)
Code: [Select]
http://www.mediaf!re.com/?8ibkiwmmggb
This is what his myspace says about the project:
Quote
While recent headlines are dominated by news of conflict and war in the Middle East, an Israeli musical collaborative has achieved success by looking beyond intercultural differences and celebrating the value of diversity. Infusing a blend of traditional Ethiopian folk music, Arabic poetry, Yemenite chants, Biblical psalms and Caribbean rhythms, The Idan Raichel Project has created an unparalleled musical experience that has taken the world by storm.

Since dubstep seems to be such a big hit around here, I decided to treat myself and share. You guys are in for a real treat here.

200
This is 200th official release from the Planet Mu label, home of some of the best dubstep artists working today as well as a number of old titans of electronica. It's a bargain-price compilation of the best the label has to offer. You can get the direct download of 26 songs off of Amazon for just under $9. That there's so little here that's not interesting is really a testament to Mu-Ziq's ear for talent. All the label's heavyweights are represented, including the exceedingly popular (around here, anyway) and excellent Distance and Vex'd, as well as the Venetian Snares and Mu-Ziq himself. This is really good stuff, and an exceptional entry point for those who don't know where to begin when it comes to dubstep.

Filter - Short Bus

Richard Patrick gets off his stint recording/touring for NiN's Broken EP, goes back to L.A. and records one of my favorite 90's albums in his apartment. Love the guitar and bass tones on this, the sequenced drums sound sweet(yep, those ain't from a kit) and I liked Dick's vox so much more before he actually learned to sing. Rich says the album got that really distorted recording from his cats clawing his speakers. Just cause you've heard "Hey Man, Nice Shot" in a thousand commercials/movies/tv shows doesn't mean you know what this record is all about. Give it a try. I think you'll be surprised what one strung out man in the depths of depression can do with a guitar, bass, and drum machine.

OH WAIT! I GOT MORE!

Replicants - s/t
Ken Andrews and Greg Edwards (FAILURE), Paul D'Amour (TOOL) and Chris Pitman (GUNS N' ROSES) did a super group cover band. They cover Neil Young, Depeche Mode, Steeley Dan, The Cars... just to name a few.
Code: [Select]
http://www.mediaf!re.com/download.php?wruy92pxmv0

Beef Terminal - The Grey knowledge
Mike Matheson, operating under the name Beef Terminal, has been producing melodic beat-based escapisms that float somewhere between the spatial guitar reflections of rock, near the organic sensibilities of artists like Aphex Twin and Boards of Canada, all while sailing the bedroom listening regions of electro-folk and ambient music.
Code: [Select]
http://www.mediaf!re.com/download.php?vvbjftdgdmx

The Hunches - Yes. No. Shut it.
One of the few "new" bands worth any attention at all. For all you kids who think Jay Retard is the greatest thing since The Stooges, wait till you hear this. Fuck shit up punk rock n' roll from Portland of all places. Loud, noisy, full of piss and just plain kick ass. This band records in the fuckin red and completely melts faces live. If you like The Stooges, The Deadboys or The MC5, check these kids out.
Code: [Select]

P.S. There is a serious lack of Failure links in this thread and I aim to fix that. I hope it's cause it's such escential listening everyone owns their discog. But for those of you not in the know, I'll save the day.

I have new music, I really like this!

Fat Freddy's Drop - Based on a True Story (2005)

A band from Wellington, New Zealand, they're a seven-piece jazz/reggae/soul group who did really well with album despite little publicity. I mean, the won awards for this shit. 'Wandering Eye' is a good song to youtube if you're not sure! Uploaded in 2 parts, 10 songs, all about 5-7min each.

If you like the kind of music that fatty has been posting recently, allow me to cordially suggest my latest mix. It's about an hour and a quarter of relaxed modern-day funk, old-school alternative hip-hop, world music, and other random tunes. There's a couple of dubious mixes, but given that it was recorded at a house party after more than a few beers, I'm quite happy with it.

Code: [Select]
http://www.buzzmoo.com/elcapitan/Windjammer%20Mix.mp3
Tracklisting is as follows:

1. Lefties Soul Connection - Organ Donor
2. Guts - And The Living Is Easy! (The Dynamics Remix)
3. Fort Knox Five - Blowing Up The Barrio (Original Mix)
4. Soul Of Man - Between The Eyes (A. Skillz Remix)
5. Flow Dynamics - Live In The Mix (Original Mix)
6. All Good Funk Alliance - Direct Me To A Remedy
7. International Velvet - Baby Shiva
8. Liftoff - Kool It Man
9. Nickodemus - Desert Dancer (Zeb's Slow Camel Ride Remix)
10. Janet Jackson - Got Till It's Gone
11. A Tribe Called Quest - Find A Way
12. Nickodemus - Cleopatra In New York
13. Jackson 5 - I Want You Back (Z-Trip Remix)
14. Nikkfurie de la Caution - Thé à la Menthe (TGL's Extended Edit)
15. Quantic - Mi Swing Es Tropical
16. Flow Dynamics - Tremendo Boogaloo
17. Krafty Kuts - Radio Free D.C. (A. Skillz and Krafty Kuts Remix)
18. Rex Riddem - Salvador Diaspora (Fort Knox Five Mix)
19. Casual Projects - Move Along

Awesome, thanks for the Eluvium

Here's some similar ambient

Kinski - I Didn't Mean to Interrupt Your Beautiful Moment

Code: [Select]
http://www.mediafire.com/?zgxlzhaixzd
I haven't heard a lot of Kinski, but from what I have, this is pretty different. They usually do post rock, but this is definitely quality ambient. It's one 39-ish minute track, slow and building yet keeping a chill, somewhat uncomfortable or somber feeling the whole time.

If anyone here likes girl talk, check out "The Hood Internet". They do mashups, like girl talk, but it's a lot less sproadic, and more centered on overlaying a vocals track over a instrumental without changing every 5 seconds. They fucking rock.

http://thehoodinternet.com/ they have all their shit for free download, i recommend their first mixtape, and the hood internet vs lykke li.

Hope you folks enjoy.

Fuckin hell, that link says that page only comes up when the user takes down the file. And I did not take down any files. Re-upping... (just putting this out here, I will NOT re-up it again if it goes down again.)

Edit: It's done. Get it while it's hot.

These guys aren't making any money off their music yet, so buy it you like it/have the chance!

Denmark's Halph is a band that's hard to pin down. The duo's dark, droning sound bewilders and intoxicates with repititous riffs and deep, deadpan vocals. Sometimes they let loose and let everything erupt into noise, but they usually keep things tight and fierce. I'm not usually so big on guitar/drum duos, but the interplay between guitarist/vocalist Thomas Nygaard and drummer Karsten Bagge is so intense, so well developed that I barely notice the lack of bass. This particular song I've posted today reminds me of Lungfish in the way that it's monotonous, yet so sinister. It doesn't work like a traditional song with verses, choruses and an emotional arc, but that's not the point. It's all about the mood, the moment

Just heard a snippet of the new album, out the window of my boss car, and it sounds REALLY promising.

Here's the other John Tavener album released by Apple; even rarer than The Whale, and I like it better:

Here we go...tried to search for these things, and didn't find them. If they're still up somewhere, forgive me.

Side note...that last version of In the Fishtank that someone said didn't work? It still does. So I'll hold off on reupping that.
