Vancouver Compliation

Joey "Shithead" Keithley (leader of DOA) reissued Vancouver Compilation in February of 2005 on his own label, Sudden Death in celebration and in honour of Vancouver's punk movement over two decades later and it's a good thing he did to! This disc featuresmostly original "homemade" songs from a diverse collection of punk bands whose music was born throughout the late 1970's in Vancouver, Canada. The LP is the essence of punk music everywhere. There's a little in here for everyone; hardcore punk, soft punk, poppy punk, new wave punk, electronica punk and a little good old rock punk.

Track list:
"The Marching Song" - performed by Pointed Sticks
"Big Shot" - performed by Exxotone
"Kill, Kill, This is Pop" - performed by D.O.A.
"Fun While It Lasts" - performed by Active Dog
"Wirehead" - performed by Wasted Lives
"Death to the Sickoids" - performed by Subhumans
"U-J3RKS Work for Police" - performed by U-J3RKS
"Rock and Roll Radio" - performed by No Fun
"I Don't Love You" - performed by Dishrags
    "Sideways" - performed by Exxotone
"I Hate Music" - performed by The K-Tels
"Nothing Holding You" - performed by Active Dog
"Urban Guerilla" - performed by Subhumans
"New Clientelle" - performed by The Shades
"Quarter to 8" - performed by Tim Ray and AV
"Nuam Guabo" - performed by U-J3RKS
    "I Hate You" - performed by D.O.A.
    "e925" - performed by {E}

Uploaded these for a friend, so I figured I might as well post 'em here as well. The Romantic era is by favorite my favorite in classical music, and Dvořák is one of the best.

Navio Forge and Guyver-One. NV might be the more legendary, after all their line-up makes them something of an emo supergroup and their sole release was after they'd split up. After two gigs. Two gigs! How emo is that? However, the Guyver-One 7" is probably the best of the two records here. If it's good enough for Andy Radin to put in his recommendations it's good enough for the rest of us. It really is scathing.

Navio Forge - As We Quietly Burn A Hole Into

Navio Forge was a short lived emotional hardcore band from California. Their only release was the LP “As we quietly burn a hole into…”, released in 1993 on Shadow Catcher records shortly after the band broke up.

They have played only two shows, both in Gilman St. where the band was from. All of the band members had other bands before and after Navio Forge (Fuel, Admiral, Torches To Rome, Please inform the captain this is a hijack, Bread And Circuits, etc).

Navio Forge was:

* Sean Linwood - Vocals (Admiral)
* Mike Kirsch - Guitar / Vocals (Fuel, Torches To Rome, Bread And Circuits,)
* Aaron Arroyo - Bass (Fuel)
* Rick Kennan - Drums

Super frantic early screamo from none other than San Diego. Very similar to Swing Kids, Antioch Arrow, Clikatat Ikatowi and Heroin (theres gotta be something in the water there). The funny thing about this record is the Grandmaster Flash and Sugar Hill Gang records playing in the background of the recording... Very similar to the Indian Summer song Angry Son, with the Bessie Smith record playing... Funny, and then the band cuts your entrails out with a swift razor sharp blast and youre not laughing anymore.... until the next break when you can hear more old school hip-hop. Yay.

Knightfall

The plot of Knightfall began with the master criminal Bane freeing all of the maximum-security inmates of Arkham Asylum, a notorious psychiatric facility in Gotham City. Bane's plan consisted of weakening Batman by forcing him to deal with the deadly villains one at a time. Among the freed inmates, there were numerous high profile villains, such as the Joker, who trapped Arkham's administrator Jeremiah Arkham, and the Scarecrow, as well as many less known villains, such as the Mad Hatter, The Ventriloquist, Firefly, Cavalier, and Victor Zsasz. The storyline of Knightfall drove a large rift in the relationship between Robin and Batman, as Batman sought to face the outbreak alone. Indeed, in later issues, Tim Drake, the current Robin, asks Batman if he is even needed as his sidekick anymore.

In the tranquil fields and meadows of long-ago England, there is a small hamlet that has stood on a jut of granite for 600 years. Just to the east stands a high stone wall, for which the village is named. Here, in the hamlet of Wall, young Tristran Thorn has lost his heart to the hauntingly beautiful Victoria Forester. And here, one crisp October eve, Tristran makes his love a promise -- an impetuous vow that will send him through the only breach in the wall, across the pasture... and into the most exhilarating adventure of his life.

It occurred to me that this thread could do with some more classical, so here's some things from two of my favorite composers, Jean Sibelius and Dmitri Shostakovich.

Jean Sibelius - Finlandia (1899)
Code: [Select]
http://www.mediafire.com/?tyndhrdygl0Incredibly evocative. I've never been to Finland, but I don't really need to now that I've heard this.
Jean Sibelius - String Quartet in D Minor, Op.56, "Voces Intimae" (1909)

Dmitri Shostakovich - String Quartets #4, 6, and 11 (1949, 1956, 1966)

In addition, here is the Violin Concerto in D Major by Johannes Brahms. The third movement will be quite familiar if you've seen There Will Be Blood (which you really should if you haven't already).

Last but not least, the first 2 CDs of a 4 volume Allen Ginsberg collection. I'll put the next two parts up over the weekend, if anyone's interested.

Your part 1 unpacks to 146MB, and has all 12 episodes.

Paul

You need both parts though.  It is so happens that part one is linked to part two and by extracting part one it continues on to extract part two.  You need both parts.

Alright, there are 15 symphonies in total. I can't upload them all, but I'll start you with the most performed ones, 5 and 10, as well as one of my personal favorites, number 9. Let me know if you'd like any others specifically. All symphonies conduced by the late great Mtislav Rostropovich.

is there any way to slightly change the title of this thread so it's not quite so easily searchable through Google or any other engine?

i googled "eddie cochran mediafire" and the last result on the first page, to my surprise, was "The Mediafire Thread! Now with no requests"
i was thinking maybe something as simple as changing it to "mediaf1re" or "media/fire". Maybe i'm just being paranoid, but i think we owe it to Jeph to at least try to cover our tracks at least a little bit.

just a thought.

AAAAH FIGHT YOU!
Then again I may as well just say fight you every time a pack of wolves posts in the concert thread.

Have I mentioned my old band supported La Quiete a couple of years ago?

Sorry, I couldn't resist. Anyway, more emo. I've been re-acquiring a few things I lost when my old computer died (sadly I don't have the cash to get oop stuff on record) so I thought I'd share.

Julia - Julia

Code: [Select]
http://www.mediafire.com/?mznvzdvpqm5
Quote from: last.fm
Julia was an american emo/hardcore band from San Diego, active from 1993-1996. Their style resembled the frantic sound of eastcoast (more specifically DC) emo, complete with octave chords and dark, yet melodic, basslines, thundering and slow drumming and intensly emotional vocals. On many occasions it sounded like Mathew was about to break down. Jeremy also played in Lumber who coexisted at the same time and put out 2 relatively obscure records. Jeremy also ran River’s End Records.

Members:
Mathew Yeager (Vocals)
Jeremy Miller (Guitar)
Chad Haley (Bass)
Noah Wilson (Drums)
Steve Miller (Guitar) (also in Unbroken, left the band in 1994. He appeared on the first two records, the first comp song and on the B side of Kathy)

Guyver-One - Obsessed With...

This is less harsh than the 7" I uploaded above, sacrificing some of the sheer power they had then for greater dynamics. I prefer the 7" myself but this is still a great screamo record.

Minuteflag was an experimental jam band collaboration between members of the bands Black Flag and The Minutemen. It took place in March 1985, while Black Flag was in the process of writing and recording Loose Nut at Total Access Studio in Redondo Beach, CA; the Minutemen had just completed their Project Mersh 12" EP at the same studio the month before. The members involved initially agreed that the material recorded during the Minuteflag sessions would not be released until at least one of the bands had disbanded. The wait would prove to be sadly short; a 12" EP on SST Records came out over a year afterward, by which time The Minutemen had disbanded after the car crash death of guitarist/vocalist D. Boon; Black Flag themselves would split up later in 1986. Despite the demand for the album amongst hardcore fans of both bands, the EP has yet to be rereleased on CD by SST.

Minuteflag EP (1986, SST 050)
1. "Fetch The Water"
2. "Power Failure"
3. "Friends"
4. "Candy Rush"

Personnel:
D. Boon (vocals, guitar)
Henry Rollins (backing vocals)
Greg Ginn (guitar)
George Hurley (bongos, bean can)
Kira Roessler (bass)
Mike Watt (bass)
Bill Stevenson (drums)

Here is a band I presume not many have ever heard of. I personally know one of the band members. He also happen to be in a band called Snapcase. Unfortunately Attractive is no longer together. From what I was told, they broke up cause of "life". Regardless, check it out!

Attractive EP

2- Mother Tongues

Someone already posted the rules, brosef.  It's nice to see that the newbies are attempting to read and obey them, though.

*scremo album*

The minute I saw this album cover I guessed it was a scremo album. I was right. Do I get cookie points?

I saw them with La Quiete, it was amazing.

AAAAH FIGHT YOU!

Then again I may as well just say fight you every time a pack of wolves posts in the concert thread.
Hmm, I don't know, it is pretty obvious. I guess you can have one cookie point.
I had the chance to see Off Minor on Sunday but I had to go to a freakin' birthday party. :(

Southern metal has embraced its inner groove and sludge, wearing both proudly in those iconic bands and in the myriad young groups dotting the Southeast. With several well-regarded EPs to their name, Baroness (singer/guitarist John Baizley, guitarist Brian Blickle, bassist Summer Welch and drummer Allen Blickle) generated a whole heap of hype (at least in some circles) when Relapse signed them for their first full-length.

is there any way to slightly change the title of this thread so it's not quite so easily searchable through Google or any other engine?

i googled "eddie cochran mediafire" and the last result on the first page, to my surprise, was "The Mediafire Thread! Now with no requests"
i was thinking maybe something as simple as changing it to "mediaf1re" or "media/fire". Maybe i'm just being paranoid, but i think we owe it to Jeph to at least try to cover our tracks at least a little bit.

just a thought.

Yea, i second this.  It's come up on several occasions for me

I've had this stuff for a while, and yeah, even if you don't really like any metal, this is still a kickass band.  Will probably also appear to hardcore/post-hardcore fans.

Also, if you do a Google Image Search for that Moss Icon album that was posted many pages back, the second hit is the image embedded on this thread.

Do you by any chance have the fourth bonus track from the 1995 reissue? The download has "Outside the Trains Don't Run on Time," "He'd Send in the Army" and "It's Her Factory," but not "Armalite Rifle."

no sorry i must have a different version

Those tracks were only part of the reissue, not the original. You have the same version, you're just missing the last bonus track.

RJD2 - Since We Last Spoke

Quote
Instrumental hip-hop can be a tough way to succeed, financially or artistically. The commercial world puts a low price on non-superstar productions and, for independent rap, the specter of DJ Shadow towers over all who come after him. Though it was overhyped, the full debut of Rjd2 in 2002 (Dead Ringer) illustrated there was additional ground left to plow. Unlike the dozens of Shadow imitators, Rjd2 isn't simply a resurrector of unjustly forgotten wax. He's a virtuoso on the sampler who recognizes that what's important isn't the beats, but what you do with them. To that he adds an implicit awareness of how to pace the songs on his albums for maximum effect. (It certainly doesn't hurt that, around that time, late-'70s rock and urban, his favorite genres to mine for samples, were closer to becoming cool than they had ever been before.) None of these traits were forgotten during Rjd2's journey to success, and his second production album refines the approach still further. With only a few exceptions, though, Since We Last Spoke makes the moody Dead Ringer sound like a piece of flag-waving exuberance; instead of the occasional up-tempo track, it's brooding and mellow throughout the record -- very nearly a rap singer/songwriter record. Three tracks in a row ("Exotic Talk," "1976," "Ring Finger") are sludge rock jams with just a few beats cut out and a few extras (like a talkbox or horn section) pasted on. Surely 50 Cent has nothing to worry about, but Rjd2 knows what he's doing and all of these songs have a way of worming inside your head until you can't wait for the next one. You've got to hand it to any producer who's able to succeed despite covering (and contributing the vocals for) one of the more mawkish tunes of Labi Siffre (who's revered by hip-hop artists for creating the classic "My Name Is..." and "Streets Is Watching" riffs, but who also functioned as a gay Al Stewart during the '70s). It's a left turn for one of the most promising producers in alt-rap, but it could lead to a better place down the road.

Hey guys does anyone have records by the National? Like, all of the ones except Boxer? I am really hooked on them right now, and while I'm supplementing with Leonard Cohen, I could really use some more National.

Who's got it?

There was a blog someone linked to a ways back, but it had several National albums up for grabs.  Can't remember what the name of it was, though.
