I did actually write a long explanation of what I meant but I decided everyone would know anyway. Clearly not! When you wear a strapless gown, it necessarily clings quite tightly both above and below the breasts (so that it doesn't fall off). This creates a cavity in the middle, because the fabric is stretched across the widest parts in all directions but since breasts are curved and separate they don't fill the entire space. So in the middle there is a gap.
