For comic #2167...

1. Poor Momo, always the victim of software issues.

2. So Momo's eyes also project holographic images?  Interesting to know...   (Which, by the way, is a pretty good art-wise showing the blue-glow of Momo's eyes and the holopony.)

3. Neverending Holopony: one of the subtler tools towards madness in The Great Old Ones' repetoire.

4. Perhaps the parting gift is not (directly) from Station, but rather...

[e-mail...]

Dear Marigold,

I sent you a parting gift as a souvenir of your trip up here to the station.  Of which, I consulted with Station as to what to send you.  Station had a good suggestion with the attachment to this e-mail, saying you seemed to enjoy it a lot.  It was either this or a whole Space Ham, and the shipping costs and protocols for the latter are rather prohibitive.  The attachment program should upload itself into any nearby compatible system.

Enjoy,

Momo doesn't like holoponies, it seems!  If Station can operate that remotely, what other implications does this have?
That anthroPC operating systems and network stacks are as full of security issues and misconfigurations as the ones in our world? Station really is a bit of a dick, isn't he?

If he's clueless rather than malicious, that might have contributed to his success with Hannelore's therapy. He may have seemed more authentic and easier to understand, like the therapy animals who are so good at reaching autistic kids.

Don't be so offended, Lt. Potter, I said "if".

Considering the capabilities of an Idoru chassis, and the fact that they live in people's homes, software security should be more of an issue. I wonder if there are any OpenBSD AnthroPCs.

I think that  the explanation is simpler. Hannelore's request/order is the highest level command you can give Station. He will take no prisoners when fulfilling her request. Given that Station is very resourceful (probably particularly so when dealing with AIs) this is what happens.

Obviously it isn't Hannelore's fault either. More like: the APCs have some rights in QCverse. Consequently they have some built-in defense mechanisms protecting them from abuse by humans. Intrusions from fellow AIs OTOH...

I don't think that Hanners told Station to upload a program into Momo to project the holopony, I just don't see Hanners doing that.

I kind of think maybe that Hanners might of mentioned off camera to Station (or Station overheard) the mention of "reasonable number of babies" and then Francis might have asked Station to give Marigold the "parting gift holopony" and Station being Station had this line of thought:

"Marigold is Hanners friend.
Hanners wants Marigold to be happy.
Marigold would be happy with Francis.
Hanners knows Marigold would be happy with Francis.
Hanners wants Marigold and Francis to "Have a reasonable number of babies."
Francis also wants Marigold to be happy.
Francis has asked me (Station) to make her happy by inputting a holopony into Momo-tan's virtual memory.
Ergo!
Francis + Marigold + holopony = happiness = "reasonable number of babies" = Hanners happiness ˛  ∞ "

I also like to think that there must have been SOME talking between the make-out sessions (off camera) between Francis and Marigold where she mentioned having an Anthro PC thus the holopony appearance on Earth.

That's entirely possible, but wouldn't that mean that the holopony would have followed her in every frame of the comic the entire time she was there in that case? (I realize maybe Jeph wouldn't want to draw a holopony for every single frame Marigold was in) but if what Skewbrow proposes is true, then wouldn't it make sense for the holopony to be with her in all the strips/frames while they were on Station?

In any event, I like the holopony and want it to continue it's existence on earth :)

That is a good point. It would have been a bit creepy to have the holopony watch  Marigold and Francis making out though. It is just a projection, but also a sign of Station's "presence" in the room.

Also, to add to the painful Hanners moments... *cringe*.
Um, the original point to linking to Hanners awkward moments was in response to my statement that Hanners no longer gets called on being awkward. What does your link have to do with being socially awkward and getting or not getting called on it? I can't even see why you are cringing over anything she said in that one.

I blame Station. He seems like enough of a joker to actually hack another AI just to keep Marigold in a perpetual state of shock and awe since, let's face it, Mar-Mar is pretty cute when she has that expression.

But see at this point we are just assuming that Station did it. Let's say perhaps off screen Marigold called Momo to make sure she or Angus hadn't burned down the apartment or to let them know she got to Space safely. If she called Momo up after the Holopony incident which I'm assuming she did, she may have mentioned the holopony to Momo. Now let's take that thought process and she starts trying to find the holopony herself. Maybe she stumbles across a site that has the holopony but its actually a virus that makes it stuck in the on state or Pintsize tells her where she can find it and the prior happens all the same. I'm just saying at this moment we don't have all the details we need.

I think that's looking a bit too into it. Plus there is a relief of tension after that and Marten doesn't look hurt or anything by it.

Also who said that holopony didn't work it's way to Marigold herself? Nobody said she wasn't sentient and maybe they bonded while on station enough to want to search her out.

I REALLY like this reasoning. Not that it makes it any less bizarre, but I think that would be endearing.

Although, I'm sure the forumites would have probably wanted more Spathe Ham instead....
