Marten will probably bottle up his pain in seeing his friend and co-worker with his ex and then explode later. Tai and Dora will break up due to the stress of knowing how it make Marten feels.

Everyone will be miserable.

Hell yeah bro, Marten is all about exploding from bottled-up angst! He has almost done it like twenty times and then luckily avoided it BUT NOT THIS TIME.

Later Angus will break up with Faye because she still has feelings for Marten! And then she will succumb to overwhelming alcoholism. AND SHE WILL BE PREGNANT.

Oh sure, it's pretty easy if you turn your forearm so that it's pointing upward (ie wrist above elbow). But that's not what Marten's arm is doing - his wrist is well below his elbow.
So? I carefully adopted Marten's pose, and I can turn my palm up as he is doing without a problem. I can't get my palm horizontal, but nor has Marten; his thumb is clearly higher than his little finger. I'm with Midwesterner on this one.

And you see Marten, Tai can multitask!

I didn't care for Tai before this arc. I'm glad we get to see more of her sentimental side rather than 'lol, female Sven'.

Call me crazy, but this arc is actually starting to make me think she's more like Sven than I previously realized, especially the sentimental side.

Sven has shit for friends, doesn't have any experience with serious relationships, and while Tai and Sven are both successful for their ages, they're having similar issues with whether that's actually what they should be doing.

Tai doesn't have the audacity/overconfidence Sven does, and she seems to be more honest about her feelings. Maybe that will be enough to keep from ending up the same place, maybe it won't.

Before this, yea.  Pretty much agreed.  She had the female Sven side only not as douche like.  Sounds like lots of sex in Tai's life and little else.  Not a lot of bonding goes on with that.  Still not my favorite character, but I guess I can at least forgive/understand some of her faults now.  Her constant flirting with other people's significant others is still irksome, but now understandable in that she REALLY doesn't/didn't have a level of maturity of being in a real relationship to know what's off limits.

This is pretty much the 1st she's invested anything other than sex in.  Still why I think this is basically the relationship to put both characters on a different path (for change) but not really be long lasting down the line.

Unless I'm missing something, I can do it pretty easily. Hook my arm around an imaginary person, and just turn my forearm up and out so my hand is palm up. A bit tight towards my wrist, but nothing uncomfortable.
I carefully adopted Marten's pose, and I can turn my palm up as he is doing without a problem. I can't get my palm horizontal, but nor has Marten; his thumb is clearly higher than his little finger. I'm with Midwesterner on this one.

Even I can do it - but none the less, it's far from a natural pose, which is more to the point.

But it was a gesture, a quick twist of the arm and hand, not a held position. I arched my arm the same way, and the gesture came naturally to me.

But Sven felt like a real Casanova, didn't he? I thought the promiscuity gave him some short-term happiness and was good for his ego, up 'til he met Faye. Tai wanted some commitment and stability, before she knew Dora. Also, Sven's escapades tended to be one-night stands or slightly dishonest, like in a lead-them-on kinda way. In comparison, I figured Tai's poly situation was so dramatic because it was honest and had out in the open vibes.

Sorry I don't have time to go archive diving. I just don't dig the comparison.

That's what I was referring to when I talked about overconfidence and honesty (to themselves).

Both Sven and Tai hit a point when they wanted a transition away from casual sex, to something more, but how they handled it couldn't be more different. Sven can't even be honest about what he had with Faye and how it affected him months after the fact, and he's dealt with it by not having any relationships. He's withdrawn and has wild moodswings, he couldn't even keep it together during his 'date' with Hannelore.

Tai, probably because of that honest and out in the open nature of her relationships you're talking, is trying to transition to being with someone she deeply cares about and is working hard to make Dora happy instead of just meeting her own individual needs. I know a lot of people have stated they don't like the relationship or how it's going, and that's fine, but personally I think this is basically what Sven could have had if he wasn't a douche.

For comic #2270...

1. I always enjoy the Marten walk-alongs, it is nice to see how our central indie protagonist has such a wide array to do so with these days too.  Personally, I wish he would do walk-alongs with Faye &/or Hannelore more often, but understand that the QC cast has expanded almost to The Simspons' level (ooh, Marten walk-along with The Sea Captain..."Yarr..." ).

2. I like the current story-portion showing a more vulnerable (because she is opening up) Tai.  Definitive character progress always appeals to me.

3. [Marten]: You really don't have any close friends?
    [Tai]: I've got you.

I really liked that moment, even if it was quickly passed, it is always a defining moment when someone says aloud that you are their friend.

4. Slurpees (or "Slushees", depending upon where you are) are pretty bad in general.  But when you are hot, sweating, and body-craving sugars & salt (say, after summer-heat activities), they are sickeningly-sweet goodness :-D .

Find a helpful friend, neighbor, or two-foot-tall-stuffed-emperor-penguin to stand in for Tai. Be sure to get your elbow on their shoulder. It's really not that hard with a prop. Any awkwardness in this is due entirely to the penguin. I tried it with a friend first and it worked much better, but I wasn't totally comfy taking a random pic of her for an internet message board.

Sorry, not even close. ;)

One, your upper arm needs to be STRAIGHT OUT, as in parallel to the ground. Look at panel 3. The difference in height puts the top of Tai's left shoulder (right side of pic) right at Marten's armpit level. That means Marten's upper arm has to go straight out to rest on top of her shoulder. And if you look closely at #3, the inside of Marten's elbow is right at the far edge of her neck. Marten's elbow is completely above Tai's shoulder, and not at all behind her neck. On the other hand, I can only see about half of your forearm in that pic, let alone your elbow. (And while Tai may be skinny, she's still a lot wider than that penguin.)

Two, I'm pretty sure your elbow isn't double-jointed.

And even with that, you're still about 25 degrees short of the rotation of Marten's wrist.

Right up to the point where my wife does something to said butt that causes pain, discomfort and embarassment.

You gotta relax, man.  Deep breaths.  Deep breaths, relax, and take it slow.  There'll be much less pain and discomfort that way. You might even like it!

And it's only embarrassing because society tells you that you're not allowed to enjoy it.  But let your beloved take you on that forbidden journey - trust her and expand your horizons of pleasure!
