I remember Canada officially changing to celsius, but i still encounter fahrenheit from time to time even in Canada.  So for me it's never really been a big deal.

40 Farenheit is roughly 4 degrees celsius, while 17F is -8.3C, my record low (without wind chill) is -50F, or -45.5.

For the curious my record high is 60C (aka 140F)

The cold isn't all that notable (but it is COLD), but the high is presumably indoors, since it's higher than the world record for measured temp.
