I seem to have tipped over the two-posts-a-day average on this forum. I'm not sure if that is a good or bad thing.

The blue nitrile gloves are better for cleaning, being stronger and more resistant to solvents.
Maybe I should talk my boss into getting some of those. Every time I have to mix laser dye, the stuff seeps through the latex gloves I wear.

so Camille's mom lost her job yesterday, which is going to make it that much more difficult for Camille to move down here. we're going to work something out, I just don't know what yet. I'm sorely tempted to quit all my unpaid extracurricular activities aside from the band so I can actually get a proper job, a car, a place of my own, etc. and figure out how to finance moving her back here. we're hellbent on being together and where there's a will, there's a way.

well, I've been thinking of quitting my unpaid non-band stuff for a while, just because it isn't as fulfilling as it once was. and I need to get serious about improving my life anyway. having a goal to spur me into action isn't a bad thing, although I totally understand where you're coming from on this. our relationship got serious relatively quickly, and I don't have the best track record as far as romance is concerned. for once though, I think I'm actually doing it right, with the right person.

whatever the case, this is several months down the line. that gives plenty of room for thinking it over.

I'm off to vote in our Federal General Election. I feel even less enthusiastic about the choice than last time, and the polls suggest that "the other mob" will win. It's been a shitty campaign, and today it reaches its climax. An air-quality health-alert was issued this morning for Sydney; this may not be a coincidence.

Went to the community theatre meeting with my wife and a friend - they had a local video company there auditioning for talent for commercials, training films and what have you.  It was fun, and the guy asked if I'd been doing professional work before.

I intended to be in the city by 11 for the kickoff of some cultural festival shenanigans, but once again I was up too late. My sleep schedule is a MESS and it has to turn around because tomorrow I need to be up at 7am :/ Anyway, just going to eat some breakfast/lunch/fruit and then head off to watch drama and dance and acrobatics :)

Actually that's an excellent point, that's precisely the issue! I go to bed at 3am, I wake up at 12pm. If I were in a country five hours behind, I'd be on the ideal sleep schedule. Hmm.

So last week's meal du jour was beef ribs!

While they were merely oven baked as opposed to proper grilling or better yet, smoking, they were still very tasty!

Now. BEHOLD! This week's challenge!

Tonkatsu Curry! Since I'm going to have out everything I need to make tonkatsu I'm also going to be deep frying some big tasty tiger shrimp! My curry itself will be featuring tasty potatoes, carrots, thin cut beef and MORE shrimp.

En cuisine!

Funnily enough Louise is my other name!

I'm kicking myself because I missed the ballet performance - I thought it was repeated at 3 but it was only at 1. And the lindy hop class I wanted to go to was cancelled, but I could have gone to the earlier one if I'd realised it was on. But I did hear some opera, watch a pop-up drama performance and several bands, catch the end of a jive class, chat to some people from the writing group and in two hours I'm going back for an acrobatic drama performance suspended against a 12 foot screen. This city is ridiculous, and wonderful.

There's a bunch of people outside in the street, singing Yellow Submarine as loud as they can. Only the lyrics are something else. And it's matching really poorly with the bass from the clubs nearby.

You tempt me twice, you evil man!

Tomorrow morning I get to take my daughter to a youth meet for the Episcopal church that will include the current presiding bishop for the US, Katherine Jefferts-Schori.

She's stoked, which is a good thing.  For a kid who's not really able to do anything, she really loves life.

Elections are always on a Thursday here. It makes sense - people are much less likely to want to give up their time off to vote than to pop in during the workday. Also they run from 7(?)am to 10pm so plenty of time to go before or after work.

...Because the Episcopalian Church of America is not beholden to the Church of England?

You can always pre-vote, if you don't have time for it on the actual day. It's not really any more hassle than going to the office.

Other fun fact: it's illegal to sell alcohol during Norwegian election days.

I realise the Episcopal church isn't beholden. I just don't get how in the USA, where things like abortion and gay marriage and women holding high office are such political hot potatoes, a woman can be a bishop when we're pissing around failing to get it sorted in our ostensibly liberal and equal country!

Grr. Perhaps this should be in the rant thread. Last year's vote made me incredibly angry.

US elections are on Tuesdays and I believe the polls usually close around 7 or 8pm. I read somewhere that it's a holdover from being primarily agricultural - so the farmers can go to church on Sunday, travel Monday, vote Tuesday, travel Wednesday, and be back for the market day or something on Thursday.

Since this is obviously how we all still live, there is no need for early voting and no one should complain when their state tries to get rid of it. (I had to vote early last year because I was taking a class on Tuesdays and wouldn't have been home in time.)

Plenty of time, except for 2010, which had an unprecedented 65% turnout. TENS of people were queuing up at a time to get their votes cast late at night. Suddenly voting was important to more people than before, and our community centers and village halls couldn't accommodate the sheer volume of people.

Good point. Although I don't believe that everyone who wasn't able to vote had sprinted there the first moment they could - a lesson in not leaving important things to the last minute (but I believe that anyone who was there before 10pm should have been allowed to vote, it was a farce).
