I agree completely. It's a delightfully symbiotic relationship. Being fluent in guitar, applied music theory (read: I can hear what's going on and replicate it, but can't explain it well), bass, and drums is my saving grace when I compose my band's bass parts, and it's applicable to each of us in one way or another. Matt's solid on applied theory (with a focus on melody), guitar, keys, and drums, but has trouble on bass; Paul's got superhuman discipline, drums, applied theory, and vocals on lock, but his guitar and bass skills are rather limited. We all have our strengths and we apply them, and we check our egos and leave our weaknesses for the better-equipped man to handle.

It can be a really good addition to your rig as long as you know what you're doing, I'm still learning how to use my comp as a tool (Including recording), so i wish you luck on getting it integrated effectively.

I got an ABY box so I can split my signal at the start. Basically running my POD HD and Guitar Rig in parallel for live performance.

As far as recording, I've been working with recording software for like 7 years so that's old hat to me.

I love this fucking thing. I recorded a little thing with it today after experimenting for a bit to get pleasant sounds out of it.

It's also really good at acting as a basic chorus and slapback and such, can do much clearer repeats but I wanted it mostly for John Martynesque dirty delay so I picked a beauty for that it appears. The hiss is mostly from my horribly unshielded danelectro which I have yet to get around to fixing.
Sounds a million times better than any 28 euro delay pedal has any right to.

Pointed the mic at the wrong part of the speaker cone and I don't have the patience to rerecord anything, so it's a bit on the bassy side, but there you go, that's life.

Yeah, it's party to do with the fact that I recorded all my previous delay based stuff with a digital delay set to sound like an analog one with varying rates of success. The fact that I can get this one onto the edge of oscillation really helps things along nicely.

Reorganized my board, and kicked off the Hoof in favor of a Rat. GC has them on sale this weekend for $79, I couldn't resist.

I'm totally loving this board, especially the Launch Pad in A/B mode. I have one side set up for heavy-reverb, clean surfy stuff, and the other side set for high-gain solos and crunchy chords. Flipping between them on the same song is so much fun!

Swapped my crappy sweatshop-made roller bridge for a much nicer Schaller roller. I need to change my strings and possibly have the old gal refretted and set up properly with the new frets, but it's made a fuckin world of difference.

Is anyone familiar with Carvin's passive pickups? They have a ditch-the-electronics reputation, and Jeph mentioned he didn't like the active pickups, but their guitars have to start with their own pickups. I'm curious about the M22SD and C22B humbuckers.

The ones I've messed around with are the middling "ok but worth a swap" that most 1st party pickups are.

Patrick - you swapped your bridge without changing the strings? You probably hard to work harder to NOT change them.

You'd be surprised how much of a real bitch it is trying to change strings when you involve a Bigsby

Actually, I have a Bigsby guitar and it's not really that bad. The key is to get a piece of foam or sponge and stick it between the string anchors and the guitar body. It'll hold the string ends in place while you put them on the tuning pegs.

So I accidentally discovered that my dad and brother have been building me a 1 watt valve amp in secret as a fun electronics project  and it turns out that it's a kickass little thing with a line out and oh god the hype train is leaving the station of my mind. Lucky, because I had a spare spring reverb unit lying around that I've now given them to use so it should have a vibrato and spring reverb and oh man I can overdrive my other amp with it or just record straight to my PC. Psyched.
Basically this, but the kit is by Vyse, not Torres, which apparently use somewhat better parts
On the other hand they're refusing to show me it until november.
Also going to hand wire my epiphone valve junior and put in a fender tone stack and maybe a master volume.

All I know about Washburns is that they're so goddamn pretty. Never had a chance to play one, though.

I only know early to mid eighties washburn basses, but those were built solid as a rock.

I've recently played one of their newer acoustics, with the beveled arm contour on the upper body. That contour took some getting used to. Aside from that, it was a beautiful instrument, tonally and aesthetically, and it played buttery smooth. And it wasn't just one, it was every one in the store I tried. I've got nothing but nice things to say about the way they do things.

Any opinions on Lace Sensor pickups? Typical Strat pickups are too thin for my tastes, but I don't want the rolled-off top-end of a humbucker/P-90, nor the heavy lower mids of humbuckers. String separation/note clarity is important to me. Do the Laces work for this, or are there good alternatives? It'd be for an HSS setup, using basically only the bridge pickup for distortion.

They're absolutely great. I'm putting a Red and Blue in my Strat (along with a Finger Burner) as soon as I'm able, but every model that I've tried sounded fantastic.

I now have my friends guitar. I can't afford one, so he's lending me his, because he doesn't (and can't) play anyway. It sucks, but it's better than no guitar. My fingers also need to get used to steel strings (remember, I play classical guitar for 13 years now). I don't exactly know what to play, I'm just playing around, but it's lots of fun. Mostly I just turn on some Mogwai or Explosions in the Sky and try to follow one track.

But oh god, I don't know much about electric guitars, but those pickups suck so hard. The guitar is an Aria MAC-30 with the stock pickups. I still dream of a Ibanez GRG170DX, but I won't be able to afford that for quite a few months. Actually I really want to try different kinds of guitars, because I've no idea what suits me best. Also I'm not experienced enough to judge anything.

Oh, and I want effects. Is there an easy way to simulate effects? I have a small mixer, so I could route the signal from the guitar through a device after the preamp (yes, I'm currently using the mixer's preamp, because it still sucks less than the ridiculous amp my friend gave me), maybe even something like a computer. But I guess latency would be a massive problem then. Any ideas? Because I have absolutely no money at all.
