Karl Urban
Dammit man, I'm a doctor, not a judge!

(Seriously though, he's so good as both)

And a sad penguin is as heartbreaking to see as I thought it would be :'(

Edit: Because apparently I erased everything from GM's quote and it was blank

Karl Urban is one of the most under rated actors working today.

That "cancel gravity" thing is fucking awesome... I didn't expect that stuff to actually work like it said it would.

I personally loved the Judge Dredd movie and Dredd.. I actually watched Judge Dredd the day before I watched the new one :)

Also found out that Versace made the costume for Judge Dredd. Don't believe me? Read the intro credits ;)

It's like he's going "Mine :3" ^^

You know.. something I just thought of.

You know how you say like something  is "50 percent off" and you write it like 50%, right?

Why do you say something is "20 dollars" and write it as $20?  We don't say it's dollar 20 :/

Also.... what?

No reason except that someone decided to do it that way.

From Wikipedia

Quote
When writing currency amounts the location of the symbol varies by currency. Many currencies, especially in Latin America and the English-speaking world, place it before the amount (e.g., R$50,00); many others place it after the amount (e.g., 50.00 SFr); and the Cape Verdean escudo, like the former Portuguese escudo and French franc, placed its symbol in the decimal position (i.e., 20$00).

Also interesting is that if I use non-unicode currency names I'd put it after the number instead of before, so I write 30 GBP or £30.

It's because there's so much stuff in the left-hand column.  By time your username, titles, Psyducks, avatar, and all that is rendered, it takes more vertical space than some of your posts, including the signature.  So most browsers (on what I'm guessing is "average" resolution -- whatever that is) have no choice but to add space under your sig before the next post.

For some statistics but not split by system type: http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_display.asp

800x600 was in the lead from 2000 (as far back as that goes) until 2004, when 1024x768 took over.

1024x768 was in the lead from 2004 until 2011. In 2010, things started spreading out quite a lot, though, as 1280x800 laptops were popular, and 1280x1024 LCDs got cheaper. That trend continued into 2011, although 1366x768 started appearing.

2012 was the rise of 1366x768, and it started dominating in subsequent years (and taking market share away from larger framebuffer sizes, too, annoyingly).

Why are so many people using 1366x768?  I thought 1080p had been the standard for a while now.

It's the standard for not-bottom-of-the-line desktop stuff, but the cheapest bargain basement stuff is all 1366x768. And then, 1366x768 is extremely common on laptops.

Go to any random laptop manufacturer's website, configure a $500 laptop. Hell, let's look at what my employer has, and not even look at prices. (#iwork4dell for FTC compliance.)

Hell, the entire Latitude line, which is not Dell's entry-level line either (that's Inspiron), 1366x768 is standard. Upgrades aren't even available on the 3330, XT3, E6430 ATG, or E6420 XFR (granted, the latter two aren't exactly machines a consumer will buy).

Even the Precision line, there's a couple models (the M4700 and M4800) with 1366x768 base models.

To my employer's credit, the entire XPS line is unavailable with 1366x768.

Why do you say something is "20 dollars" and write it as $20?  We don't say it's dollar 20 :/

In all seriousness, I say "money" in my head when reading and come across a "$" sign.  So, reading "the new game costs $20" I say in my head "the new game costs money twenty."  It sometimes makes for slightly embarrassing moments if I need to read something aloud and I'm not paying attention or scanning ahead.

My laptop is about 1.5 years old, and has 2880x1800.

And I've got a ten year old desktop monitor that's 3840x2400.

Some say that he once sold his body to get more pixels, and that he has a shrine to the inventor of In-Plane Switching. All we know is that he's called bhtooefr.

$.01

I read "money point oh one" when reading that just now.  I don't normally think about it, I guess I just read things left-to-right very strictly.

Yeeeeeep.

(It was the first laptop since 2008 (well, I did my T61p build later than that, but all the parts to do it existed then) that could even match my previous machine on pixel count, a ThinkPad T61p built into a T60 15.0" 4:3 chassis, with a 2048x1536 display.)

When we can't be there to do a nine line. When there's no Corpsman to call and no QRF waiting, a service dog can be the last line of defense between a veteran and his or her inner demons.

Metre is the correct British spelling - it's not a "fancy pants" thing!

How do I find out the size and resolution of my laptop screen?

There's this really handy "other thing" I'm going to write as a footnote to my abstract that I can probably explore these issues in. I think I'll call it my "dissertation."

I know you have a Windows 8 laptop, so you just press start, type "screen resolution" and tap "change resolution" in the search results that pops up on your right. If it's a Win 8 and not 8.1, you're going to have to click on "settings" under the search pane first.

There are too many Americans in this forum, who believe their spelling is the correct one. Why can't we all standardize on the Queen's English?

Regarding how to find the resolution on your laptop: It depends on the OS (Mac/Windows/Linux/others), and on the OS version to some extent. On Windows 7, right-click on a blank spot on the desktop, and choose "Screen resolution". The current resolution (in pixels) is shown. It should match your laptop's hardware resolution, otherwise the text will be fuzzy. On a Mac, choose System Preferences - Display.

Regarding common resolutions in use today: On a laptop, you are pretty much stuck to the hardware resolution (often 1366 x 768 or 1600 x 900 on small laptops, bigger or more expensive laptops may have full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution).

On a desktop or external display, the most common resolution today is probably full HD (1920 x 1080), because this is what is most common in today's TV technology. In a few years, 4K resolution (3840 x 2160) will become common.

Higher resolution means you have room for more information. But it also means you need bigger screens, otherwise the displayed items will be too small. A full HD external monitor needs to be approx. 23" in size, whereas a 4K monitor probably should be 46" or even 55". That is, if you want to keep the current pixel size. So-called "retina displays" have smaller pixels, but then the software needs to scale up text and graphics, otherwise it would just be too small.
