He did used to wear them on the job, but yeah, a brand new job is a special situation.  Maybe he'll turn 'em back on when he's settled in at CoD.  It could be a nice touch when he learns to glare contemptuously at the customers.

--- Quote ---Besides, it was just a running gag to begin with [/realexplanation]

Also a good point.  But it's been such a consistent running gag that it'd feel weird to me if it just ended all of a sudden with no explanation.  'Course, it'd be like Jeph to offer an explanation several months from now and develop it into a week's worth of dialogue.  (Someone: Say, Dale, I notice you stopped wearing your Glasses. What's up with that?  Dale: Well, I............ etc.)

Akima:
Does barista sarcasm stack or cancel out?

GarandMarine:
Don't worry Dale, I appreciate your sarcasm

This would be my guess, he has them off to show he's paying attention, but man they'll be good when he's dolling out lattes and contempt.

Personal IRL experience: Depends on the counter team at any given location. For example sarcasm doesn't actually exist inside the small temporal bubble of a starbucks, along with any unapproved form of self expression or individual thought. At an actual coffee shop with a good team behind the counter it usually stacks, but if the barista initiating the sarcasm deserves a good smack down, her/his teammate's sarcasm will cancel out the initial sarcasm.

Ow, my layout!

GarandMarine:
Gendo judges your tiny screen and poor layout.

He judges it hard.
