Re: dog pun names
We got a golden retriever umpteen years ago that we named Max (unimaginative, but it was just before christmas, so he was named for the
Graunch's Grinch's dog, my kids were still little). We were told he'd probably be about 70-80 lbs, the usual size for a golden retriever.
He wound up being a fit but
huge 110 lbs, as tall a a St. Bernard, and as barrel chested as a rottweiler.
A few years later, my wife found a pomeranian mix running along the back highway in the woods - no collar, black with filth, down to about 4 lbs. We rescued her (okay, she
leapt into the van), and when we cleaned her up, her fur was the exact same color as Max's.
We named her Minnie.
They were best friends, played fox & hound together (Minnie would bug Max until he chased her through the yard. When he got tired of her running figure eights around him, he'd pin her down with a paw).
Walking them was always fun for the looks - I'd tell people they were twins. The names (Max and Minnie) were usually good for a laugh, too.
Max passed away three years ago this weekend from liver cancer at the fairly good age of 12. We have no idea how old Minnie is, but she's still with us. The name has lost its
pun-ch without her other half, though.
