But I think in all instances it is your job, although I don't think that makes being a dick ok. I doubt many people who think that the two examples you gave were unacceptable would then claim that abusing retail staff was ok - it is all about the type of mindset. The people who are leaving their tables a mess at your place of work are then probably going back to work and making hideous demands to web designers or heading to the library and hiding books in odd places because they just don't give a shit. But you are being paid to deal with customers, and unfortunately that means dealing with dickheads too.

Yeah, I totally agree with you, but I guess the problem is that a huge majority of people have jobs that can be made more frustrating by the inconsiderate nature of others.

Ben: Consider, if you will, some tool breaks his computer. Then, while you are trying to fix it, starts open-palm slapping the keyboard, or something. Intentionally making your job much more difficult than it should be. Yes, the example is a bit ridiculous, but how much more ridiculous than someone coming into my place of work and taking a pocket-full of product off the shelf and not paying?

Yes, it is my job to deal with people, and I do so happily 90% of the time, but when some chucklefuck comes in with the sole intention of making my day worse, that guy can fuck right off, regardless of whether I'm at work, or anywhere else.

I'm going to shut up now, because I don't want to be the cause of another closed photo thread, but my point is valid and I'll stand by it.

For the record, I worked retail for 3 and a half years, and I've put up with some pretty awful stuff. Doesn't justify what I did. In all fairness, I didn't actually intend to steal it. I had just put the hat on and started walking around with it, and accidentally walked out with it, thinking it was the beanie in the other picture. I did intentionally steal a fireball from the candy section, though.
