Melbourne also has heaps of rainbow lorikeets. I've been living here for almost six years and I swear I have not got over them yet. Every time I see one I stop in my tracks and say to myself "Holy shit." And it's not like I'm not used to parrots: I grew up in a city with abundant gang gangs, galahs, red-rumped parrots, king parrots, eastern rosellas, and crimson rosellas.

There are also a lot of black cockatoos in that area! I like black cockatoos, but I forget how huge they are until I see them in a photo or in real life. I mean, look at them!

I do love rainbow lorikeets, though. We had heaps in the tree behind our old place, and I would leave apple for them and watch as they argued over it. Hilarious things.

Yeah you tend not to get black cockatoos in the city, though, just in the bush outside Canberra. And the ones you get are yellow-tailed black cockatoos. But yeah, they're crazy huge. There's a flock I see flying overhead here in Melbs sometimes (I think maybe they live in the cemetary) and it's like watching some kind of alien space fleet fly overhead: so big, so unexpected, so slow and stately. Awesome.
