one big 'Logistics Specialist' rating
I'll pass along a little something I've learned.
I'm an Army vet. Because when I enlisted I was a total adrenaline junkie, I spent all my time killing people and breaking things. You know... stuff with
zero civilian transfer skills. Like most door kickers and shit-blower-uppers, I secretly (or not so secretly) considered loggies, commo guys, dental technicians, clerks, etc. to be beneath me and not so much 'real' soldiers. If you're not at the sharp end of the spear and aspiring to be the very tip of it, you're a bit of a sissy. Or that was my thought at the time.
Then I got hurt and had to get out. I did a few years, nothing close to an entire career. Not surprisingly, there were no ads in the paper seeking former Sergeants to yell really loudly forty hours a week. Uh-oh... I've got to learn totally new skills that have nothing to do with what I've been doing my entire adult life.
Fast forward and I'm back in the D.C. area, and since you can't spit without hitting a retired O-6 around here, as you might imagine I work with a whole lot of veterans. Just so happens, All the good jobs go to comms and log folks. I often find myself sitting a room with nothing but loggies or commo guys. I have been asked more than once (and even recently) "You were a log guy, right?" or "Were you commo?" And when I tell them no, and what my MOS was, I get really strange looks and asked "How did you get this job?" Truth be told, though a couple of my former buddies are doing pretty well, most of them work shit jobs. Like... real-for-real shit jobs.
If I could do it all over and I decided I was going to go into the military again... Log would be the way to go. At least, it would certainly be one of the things I considered, knowing what I do now.
tl;dr-- Logistics can get you a real job. Go with it.
