I'm dreeaming of a reeed Chriistmaas...

edit: And it turns out I got a shaving kit too. Not as fancy, it's a Merkur double edged razor kit. Complete with bowl, soap, brush, and one blade. There's a store near here that has blades, but they don't carry the razors any more because there's not enough demand for them. Most of the people that use double edged razors bought one last century and have no plans of getting rid of it.

Because everyone knows what happened when you tried not shaving last year.

(nothing happened)

I wasn't expecting it at all. It doesn't come with a travel case or anything, but I guess I can get a bag if I need to. I'm probably going to be a heretic and still use shaving cream a lot, because sometimes I'm in a hurry to shave and get out the door.

Nice. Was it a sale at a store? I need to get some, but I should probably wait until I regain the weight I lost. I've got a pair of pants that I wasn't even close to fitting in a couple months ago that could even be a bit tighter now.

Boots have side zippers to put them on and take them off more easily while laced traditionally. Those should be easy to slip on and off anyway, since their laces don't cinch down.

So why have zippers if you have laces?

Or vice versa.

Unless you made a jacket out of an old-timey hockey sweater, this shouldn't happen.

Why not have zippers? I like zippers on shoes, whether necessary or not. I mean, what's the point of having a buckle on a shoe when you don't really need them? It's a thing to make it more interesting.

Also they're probably there so they're easier to put on/take off. I mean, they don't look like they'd be that hard to take off, but you don't have to touch the laces that way if you don't want to.

Yeah, it makes them really easy to take off, which is nice because I hate how leather can get so folded up and creased if shoes don't come off easily. They are incredibly comfortable, as has been the case with other Fluevog shoes I've owned. The =gender%3Amen&w[1]=attribute%3AVegan&p=2&pp=1&view=detail&colourID=2833]sneakers I bought from them lasted me three years of intense wear, and the other pair of their shoes I have are holding up really well, though they have suede parts, so I don't wear them too often.

My parents got me a comfy new cardigan for Christmas, which isn't something I would usually wear, but I thought I looked pretty sharp yesterday. Tania can confirm/deny.

I mean mainly I think those are some pretty awesome shoes with completely unnecessary zippers that ruin the sleekness and aesthetic profile so completely that they end up being really unappealing.

So why have zippers if you have laces?

Or vice versa.

Unless you made a jacket out of an old-timey hockey sweater, this shouldn't happen.
Because the laces let you adjust the boot to be tight.

And when you have zippers, it doesn't take a few minutes to get in or out of the boots. I've got a pair of 7-hole jump boots (technically 4 hole and 3 hook, but oh well) and a pair of 10-hole jump boots, and they take a while to tighten down or take off without the zipper. I imagine it originated from people in the military needing to be able to throw their gear on as quick as possible, or take it off quickly in case of an injury. There is something called speed-lacing that is supposed to have a similar effect, but I've never tried it.

If one of our military members is reading this, maybe they could explain better. I just like them because I can get my boots on really quickly.

I can't believe you guys are hating on the zipper! High-top shoes are a pain in the ass to put on, I would LOVE zippers on more of them as long as they were executed as nicely as they are on those.

Cords, eh?

You probably don't want to know that my favourite jeans in the early 70s were a pair of Levi flared hipster (the old meaning) cords in maroon with a 2 1/2" wide tooled leather belt; worn with an Indian cotton seersucker shirt (buttoned as a ladies' shirt, though sold in a men's store).

Heh!

Pics or it didn't etc.

For everyone's sake.

Just making sure this doesn't get lost.

I only have pajamas because it gets fucking cold in my house and we can't really afford to turn the heat up much. But really the pajamas are just sweatpants. The kind that are so stretchy that when I put a foot in the leg it gets stuck so they take forever to put on and that annoys me. So despite the temperature I usually end up pantsless anyway.

I'm talking about everyday wear during the middle of the afternoon even though obviously you had enough time to do your hair and makeup.

The only time I wear pajamas in public is if I'm sick and I REALLY need something from the grocery. I know how to put on pants, so usually I do that. (Pajamas in public is a pet peeve because it reminds me of my high school and I hated my high school.)

Also funny enough, I saw that commercial on TV today. Luckily it was muted so my friends made up their own dialog to it, which was much better.

They're not entirely useless! When my grandfather gets up on Sunday mornings he stashes a pen from his nightstand in there while he makes coffee and toast. He then uses that pen to crush the crossword puzzle before getting ready for church. The entire process takes maybe 20 to 30 minutes and is as weirdly ostentatious as it is efficient. He's like 84 years old now though, so he's had practice.

So I hate to them up again, but I have something to say about jeggings.
I worked at Macy's this holiday season and I have come to realize there are two very different products being sold as jeggings and perhaps some of the conflict we are having is because of this.

Jeggings Type 1
I think these are what proponents of jeggings have.  They are like skinny jeans with a little spandex in them so they stretch.  They have pockets and zippers and are made of durable feeling fabric, just a little stretchy.  I probably couldn't bring myself to wear them because they are not my style, but you crazy kids were the tightest skinny jeans anyways and these would probably be the same just with the added ability to have a free range of motion.
Like These

Jeggings Type 2
These are what I always pictured.  They are made of non-denim fabric and they don't have pockets or zippers.  They are dyed to look like denim and they have some contrast stitching down the seams.  These are terrible.  These look like toddler pants, you know, the knit cotton pants they make for toddlers that are super stretchy to fit over their fat diapers.  This is bad.  This is a crime.  I don't care if you stitch on fake pockets or a fake fly.  I don't care if you are a size 2 with a great shape. These are terrible for everyone always.
like this

Then there are some in between ones
like this   (still bad in my mind)

I believe ones like those are considered to be more like tights than pants.

Fashion Thread: Christmas Haul Edition!

I got some Things for Christmas, which I am extremely excited about. First off:

BOOTS! But not just any boots...

Pink boots! Yes, they are men's boots, I swear. We were visiting relatives in New Mexico and I had been wanting a pair of boots for a while, since all my other shoes are made of canvas and not very well suited to rainy weather. So after the sales lady walked us through the in's and out's of fitting boots, my parents were getting worried since all the ones that fit me ran in the $170 range. Then we found these. This is a pretty expensive style, but since no guys wanted to buy the pink ones, they were marked down to $100. So *snatch* my boots now.

Christmas Fashion Item #2:

Awww yeah peacoat. I have been wanting one of these for so long and my mom found a nice wool one that fits me well.

Not a ton to say about it, but it has been raining nonstop in my college town ever since I got back so basically I am going to be wearing one of these two items wherever I go and I am so very happy.

I still prefer to think of rugby in a more friendly way: Everyone tries to hug the guy with the ball. The team with the most hugs at the end of the game wins. Extra points for group hugs.
