I'm not sure what I should think that I did not need to make any wardrobe adjustments before I took this.

Guys I bought a sweater! It is totally a little old lady sweater that my grandma would wear but I think I can rock the hell out of it and make it look goooood.

Fantastic yarn-flower appliques!

There has been a serious upsurge in the appeal of "Classic American" style and the outdoorsy look recently. The amount of people wearing flannels and plaids is huge these days. It's a great look, I'm in favor of it

Who knew my late French-Canadian grandfather was like 15 years ahead of the trend?

(I'm for it as well. I love a good plaid)

Those Zig Zags are ill as fucc though.

Also, Filson is legit, sam still gets it better than everyone else.

I don't know how practical a leather jacket is in a country that is so cold, I associate leather jackets with cool summer evenings, do they make leather jackets warm enough for winter?

Drilly drill, back home I would wear a leather jacked with a thin-ish hooded sweatshirt underneath until usually November, hear in Ontario I find that is all I need winter-round. If it's a decent-thick jacket it'll stop the wind solid and then a good fuzzy layer will be fine for warmth. Of course, based on proximity to ocean the damp cold might be too much for that set-up.

p.s. I think I am going to give up on this long-standing trend of calling people by their names and start making up silly nicknames for people based on their usernames.

If you get an insulated leather jacket, it will work just fine. I've got one that I can't wear when it is hotter than 40 or so degrees, because it is so warm.

I have a leather jacket that's not even very insulated.  It lasts me through temps in single digits and teens with a lot of wind.  It's really the wind resistance that's key.  Also, a sweater or something underneath would probably make it even warmer.  I never wore sweaters last winter, but I've started wearing them all the time now.  I NEED MOAR SWEATERS!  Why are they so comfortable and good-looking?  Oh, right, the cashmere is probably helping out in that regard (the awesomest "didn't fit me, here you go" present from my family).

Re: Leather Jackets (I want one and seeing as it is summer they are cheap now)
My problem is I don't even have big boobs but it is pretty much impossible to find a fitted leather jacket that I can zip up and not have them uncomfortably squished. I guess I should just get a bomber.

That's for sure. There is a world of difference between the jacket zipped and the jacket zipped and with the leather flap over the zip sealed (I think it was meant so that if you got in a motorcycle accident, you had leather between the zipper and the pavement, so you didn't have the pavement shoving zipper into your skin immediately). The insulation I was talking about is some polyester stuffing between a nylon lining and the leather outside.

I need to take it to get dry cleaned still, I never remember to get around to calling to see how much it will cost.

Since Bassist mentioned sweaters, what does everyone think of wooly pullys / commando sweaters? They look very warm and my local surplus shop (my main source of clothing other than thrift stores for band t-shirts) has them for cheap.

(I think it was meant so that if you got in a motorcycle accident, you had leather between the zipper and the pavement, so you didn't have the pavement shoving zipper into your skin immediately)

More likely it's to prevent wind getting through the zipper.  Even racing suits don't have flaps over the zipper, so it's definitely not a safety issue.

As for military surplus stuff, I'm pretty much negative on all of it.  I went through a phase in high school, but right now I have a tough time finding a style for which actual military gear ends up looking good.  Usually, the military stuff is too "one size fits all" to actually look good without a lot of work.

Well, I already tend to have a pretty surplus-heavy wardrobe, so that isn't an issue. Those sweaters in particular actually don't look very military, though, aside from the flags on them. I think they look pretty nice, but I was wondering if other people thought so too.

Andy I would go with a leather jacket. You have to deal with some dampness due to proximity to the ocean, and leather jackets are pretty good at tackling that. If you are looking for something that doesn't require layering, you're going to need an actual coat. Why would you not layer, though? It is Canada and winter. To keep out the damp I layer here, and it only ever gets down to like 20ºF or so.
