if you own a pair of pants long enough, they can get the washed out look naturally? i know that my black jeans didn't start having silly traintracks and roping fades until i wore them everyday almost a year straight.

You could probably break in a good pair of raw lightweight jeans in a few months if you put your mind to it.

Yeah you can fade them pretty easily by washing them regularly but it tends to result in really crappy general fades, which is why some more hardcore enthusiasts  leave them unwashed for 6 months+ (but this is pretty ridiculous).

Any raw denim that will fade decently will also become indistinct if you wash it, because if the indigo will come off from the wear, it will also come off from the wash. It just depends how much contrast you want, I guess.

My raw jeans that I got like a year and a bit ago and wash every couple of weeks have only got distinct wearing on the knees and some ugly stretching near the crotch. Also the zipper has broken and I can't be bothered fixing it so I can only wear them with long shirts now.

Ally that is why button fly jeans are the only jeans.

Also,
roping and traintracks are pretty easy to get honestly, for the most part that's just washing; wearing them does add a fair bit to the abrasion that leads to them getting lighter, though.

God dammit I was just starting to feel cool with my honeycombs and whiskers and now I gotta worry about train tracks and roping too fuck.

nm brief examination reveals that all my raw denim is ropey as a motherfuck, with the exception of the PBJ's but I mostly wear those cuffed so there's  just a pretty uniform fade around the bottom.

All the selvedge stuff has traintracks, but it definitely looks best on the 501's.

I think those are way less interesting fades than the aforementioned ones though.

My APC's have this really sick fade on the selvedge, gonna see if my iPhone is good enough to get a picture.

Do explain what roping and traintracking are. Actually a complete picture glossary would be fun.

Edit:

Add honey combing to that list while your at it.

I guess it's just honeycombing that's carrying through, but still, sick.

Post pictures when I'm done having fun with real people.

I've had my raw denim for a bit under two months, worn every day and not washed yet (aside from a soak when I first got them to get rid of some of the excess dye and shrink them a bit). So far there's only the slightest bit of a uniform fade right across the thighs, no honeycombing or anything more distinct. Do I wash y/n

How do you people wear clothes every day for more than a week or so without washing them.  Do you just not sweat at all?

I sweat profusely! But if you just air that shit out whenever it gets stinky then it's fine. Remember denim is cotton, so it wicks sweat like crazy, instead of soaking it up and holding it. If I had to wash my jeans I would, but I don't.

What? That's not how I understand cotton to work at all. Cotton stays wet, and gets cold. That's why you never (are supposed to, I do sometimes) wear cotton for outdoorsy stuff.

Well yeah if you soak it. But for just taking sweat off of yr skin and transferring it to the outside of the garment where it then evaporates, cotton is yr guy. That's why we make undergarments and shirts (business and t-) out of cotton.

There are a few tricks you can use to get the funk out of your jeans without washing them, airing them out usually works nicely. I've heard a few people claim they freeze theirs.

The bad part of freezing your jeans:  everything else in your freezer now tastes like your funk.

Ew.

On the plus side of not ever washing your clothes:  pheremones.

Some pictures of jeans.

APC rad honeycombing.

PBJs

PBJ details.

I really like how dark the PBJs have stayed despite the fading, and the blue in the honeycombs is sicc. Also iPhone fadezzz.

The Skywalker model is probably the most decent of those shoes*.

Mainly because then you can pass as just wearing ugly orange sneakers instead of star wars themed sneakers.

Hurr.
I am not too sure I could find anything that majestic in the shops around here.

Also I like my jackets to cover all the areas jackets should. Nothing that is too short and doesn't cover up my waistband and something that will come all the way down to my knuckles in the arm region.

Maybe I just need to go shopping and try a bunch on and get photos for you. It worked the last time I had to get a winter jacket a few years ago.
