Where'd you get your skinnies from lunchy? My black ones are from JayJays and they fit great, but they are stretch denim that isn't really denim. I need some new ones.

They are JSociety from Just Jeans. I tried on more expensive ones and the girl was trying to persuade me to buy them, but these were cheaper and make my butt look good and aren't so ridiculous skinny that they need zippers on the ankles.

I need to buy some more fatigues. The two pairs I have now are just over a year old and I wear these quite literally every day, usually for a month at a time before alternating to the other identical pair. At this point they have faded to a kind of dark dark grey and have broken zippers and holes all over. It hasn't gotten to the point where I have to start sewing them back together (which is the point I normally let it get too before I replace them) but maybe I go to the Surplus Store and get some more after I've been paid.

Man what the hell are you doing to make your trousers smell? I wash my fatigues once a month and when they're not on my body they're on the floor possibly on top of or under my boots and they don't smell of anything. Seriously, what are you doing?

I don't stink my pants up but I do get food all over them when I eat (80% of the time at my desk) and I have a bad habit - from when I was a waitress and wore an apron all the time - of wiping my dirty hands on my pants.

That could be it, I wipe my hands on my pants sometimes. Of course, I don't notice the smell unless I smell-check by sticking my nose in them, but I figure that I tend to notice my smell less than other people, so I should wash them before I think they are stinky, just as a matter of courtesy.

I'm assuming that if you do anything that gets them dirty, you wash them, right? Like if you change your car's oil, go camping, or anything like that? Maybe my garage is an anomaly, but any cloth that makes contact with that floor gets a mix of auto fluid residue, sawdust, and dirt ground into it instantly.

I think people sweat different amounts and come from different climates, and people's bodily oils come in different pungencies.

Also different fabrics hold smell differently--my boyfriend is a bit oblivious to how dirty his jeans are, which means that I have become de-facto dictator of Whenpantsgetwashed Land.  In my time in office, I've noticed that he has one pair that are particularly thick and seem to get stinky within one or two wears; all his other jeans can go weeks before I insist he wash them, usually because he's spilled something gross on them rather than because they smell.

Yeah exactly. And I don't have a garage myself but I spend time in my boyfriend's, and I do sit on the grass and on crappy bird-pooed ledges and chairs outside a lot.
I wash my jeans perhaps once a week when I start noticing gunk on them.

I'm assuming that all of  those people don't have to share a freezer? Because neither of my family's freezers have room, and I would have a hard time convincing them that pants go in the freezer even if there was.

Also, mornings can be cold enough around here without putting frozen cotton on my junk.

I know most of you aren't going to like Jane because she's a filthy rich texan girl who buys $500 heels on a weekly basis and wears flats once in a blue moon. Also she has crazy clothes and wears everything and all sorts of whacky colourful things

I think she looks best in her most toned down outfits. Basically I am living in this thread because I'm too poor to buy clothes. And I don't feel the need to show you what I am wearing from day to day because that is boring.

Dear Fashion Advice Thread,

It's almost my birthday, I like wearing fancy dresses on my birthday, I'm going out in 2 different cities, so 2 dress would be ideal.

I own a lot of dresses, mostly big ol' prom ones or vintage ones. But I have worn all them the many times, I have just fixed my camera & also had my Lomo returned, I will taking a whole ton photos so I want to look nice. Also it's my 30th so it's kinda special.

I've had the idea of buying a plan American Apparel dress & using iron on transfers to make it look less plan & kinda cool. I could sew something, but I probably can't be bothered. Same goes for hunting for a good vintage dress.

I want to be comfy & relaxed (There will be a lot of drinking & dancing involved & don't want anything I can fall out of etc.), but dressed up. I like pretty much all colours, I'm super curvy & short. I'm drawing a blank. Any good style suggestions?

Emaline or Jodie post that website with all of those awesome 50's/retro/pinup-style dresses that you've linked to a couple o' times

Haha Ali you can read me like a book. Hi Jane,

Hi Jane with a side-ponytail ffff

(actually I found her blog and it seems a lot of the time she dresses like a society wife who is twice her age but then who am I to criticise for dressing like an old person and also dang she is just cute all over)

Anyway when I say I air out my jeans I mean literally that. I hang them on the clothesline for a day or two and then boom bap pow they do not smell anymore. And I am a very sweaty man.

Yeah blogs in general are really where it is at as far as fashion goes, whether it be "seen on the street" stuff pioneered by The Sart + lookbook or personal "what I'm wearing today" blogs like seaofshoez or Street Etiquette (I love Street Etiquette). I guess it's because fashion is basically the most democratic form of art and intrinsically relatable (everybody wears clothes!) and so it makes sense that the most interesting stuff is happening with people out in the world expressing themselves through fashion as they go about their daily business as opposed to the more formalised business of fashion companies.

Or to put it another way: Is it so surprising that the most interesting fashion (like the best music/literature/poetry/visual art etc etc) comes from people who are doing it as pure self-expression instead of because of commercial interests?

I did love those dresses, but they are either too much, or I have one in that style already. I think I'm a little bored of the whole 50's pin up schtick, I've been doing it a long damn time.

Here are some pictures:

(I have a weird expression as I was leaving all my friends & moving away)

This is my birthday dress, I wore it on my 27th (This one) & my 25th

This is the kind of dress I have 4 of, it's pencil at the bottom.

This is the only picture I have of the dress, which doesn't fit me anymore, sadly, it's got a huge skirt & makes me look like a walking vans slip on.

http://www.asos.com/Asos/Asos-Premium-Sequin-Playsuit/Prod/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=837422&SearchQuery=playsuit&sh=0&pge=3&pgesize=20&sort=-1&clr=Black
I'm seriously considering this, as I am so bored with the choice of dresses out there.

I'm not on my own PC so I don't have any more fancy dresses pictures, but I though those would give a good idea.

Oh I agree & it suits me, but I would like a little style fresh start, I've been rocking a slightly more 60's look recently, polo necks and bold prints, I'm enjoying it a lot. Simple shaped clothes in bold colours.

The 50's thing might be awesome where you're from, but round my way it's kinda dull, I want something OUTSTANDING.

It is a shame you guys are done with it because in Spain and the UK I have noticed that these are the styles you might actually be able to buy for decent prices this spring.

Then again, I guess it can get old around now because lots of people are liking it, so.

Because fashion is kind of cyclic. I'm constantly hearing my mum say "oh goodness, I used to wear things like that when I was your age!". Things that were fashionable 50/60/70 years ago, do get revived, revamped and reentered into the fashion world. A lot of designers take influence from styles of late and put their own spin on them. There's also the whole idea where people think vintage is absolutely rockin' and go digging through their grandparent's closets to find things that they could wear now.

I was trying to find the diagram I once saw of the life cycles of fashion - it explained how things were viewed in fashion 5 years after they appeared, 10 years, 20 years, etc. I guess the thing is that there are only so many ways to drape the naked body in fabrics.

I've been bored of the 50s thing for a while now. Like, it is a good style I guess but especially where I live there are a lot of people going for the rockabilly/50s/pinup style thing and man it used to be interesting but now everybody is dressed like everybody else and I'm starting to think it's done its dash.

Another outfit I hate is something I see girls wearing a lot. Black pencil skirt, cream blouse or shirt with a lacy/see-through black jacket or bolero on top, black docs, black stockings and a fucking bowler hat.

Seriously, fuck those people.

Look, I understand that Christina Hendricks is hot but you can just GIS her like everyone else. No need to pretend there's a good show in there too.

I know this completely but I still watch it and love it so hard

This is because I Am A Whore

Anyway I guess the 50s thing isn't overdone in Perth because everybody here sucks. And even if it was overdone I probably wouldn't notice because I'd still be all drooly. What can I say I really like it, sue me!

:c <3 choo Firefly.

Another outfit I hate is something I see girls wearing a lot. Black pencil skirt, cream blouse or shirt with a lacy/see-through black jacket or bolero on top, black docs, black stockings and a fucking bowler hat.

Seriously, fuck those people.

Would you hate me if I wore a bowler hat with none of those things (except maybe Docs, but I don't own any)? The first few things make sense together, but definitely not with the last three. But I love bowler hats and I want one. I also want a monocle, but that's not going to happen. (I'd have to wear one contact or two monocles! Nonsense!) Maybe a vest and a pocket watch instead. Hmm.

That actually sounds like an okay outfit with the exclusion of the bowler hat which makes it seem too costumey.
