Lose the baseball cap and iron your linen, you lazy sod.

P.S. it appears you already have a grasp on this but another important rule for classy summer dress: a polo or a button-up with the sleeves rolled up goes a looooooong way over a T-shirt.

Bought those shoes two days ago. They're usually 60$, but I only paid 15$ for them. And plus, they are vegan, so that's cool.

Shorts were fresh from the washer, but have since been ironed. And the baseball cap is only there to complete my douche look. I don't wear it in public.

Search "ropers" on Etsy. There's a million pairs in various colors, most of them for women. That particular pair is the only one I've seen that will fit me, so I've asked the seller to hold them for a week until I can buy them.

You guys ought to benefit from the three hours of research I did on the subject. It all started when I walked into All Saints in SoHo. They had a wall of similar looking boots (see below) with prices starting at $250. I considered making the investment but after a cursory investigation, my suspicions as to the quality (shitty) and lifespan (short) of their products were confirmed.

(I don't trust the London high street shop spin-offs that have been popping up in the fashion district lately. When Top Shop first came to New York, I spent an entire paycheck there because I needed to build a new wardrobe from the ground up and I really liked the clothes. After one wash, the jeans I bought there shrunk to half their size, the corduroy slacks ripped straight across the inseam, the button-ups shrunk and no matter how much I ironed them, they would get nasty and wrinkled a minute after I put them on. This summer I made the mistake of shopping there again and bought some Top Shop brand Sperry Topsider clones, and yesterday the sole came completely unglued.)

Thus, with All Saints' lack of quality revealed, I went searching for an alternative. The difficulty of this task lies in the fact that what I'm looking for is black leather lace-up boots. They can't really be described in any other way (they are styled after combat boots but searching for combat boots turned up actual combat boots). I was recommended a few companies like Buttero, Fiorentini + Baker, and Belstaff, and indeed they make similar boots (see below) but they are all $400-500 and I just can't justify that when I already have a pair of (my favorite) Docs.

Luckily, after a few hours of searching, I found that if you look for "ropers" and (oddly enough, don't ask) "granny boots" on Etsy you can find dozens of the kind of boots I linked up there. Sweet!

All Saints Cropped Military Boot $250

Fiorentini + Baker Bolan $435 $209

Fiorentini + Baker 745 Workboot $420

Yeah that doesn't really look like a motorcycle jacket, at least not in that pic. Too tight maybe? Too long down your hips?  I really liked it when you posted the website pics before but not feeling it here.

It's supposed to have a slight trench feel to it, hence the belt. The model in that picture is wearing it totally wrong.

I dunno, man. That jacket just looks like a ladies' jacket.

Will Smith can pull that shit off. The average male cannot. Even that model looks uncomfortable and ashamed.

I still like the jacket, but I'd ditch the belt. It makes it look more feminine because it's sitting very close to the natural waist of a woman and it can't go lower, because of the pockets. But seriously, that is a great color and I think you can still pull it off, but it'd be better sans belt.

Nah dogg that is definitely a ladies jacket. Definitely definitely ditch the belt and experiment with different buttoning combinations and you may be able to salvage something there but even then perhaps not. Really not diggin on the gigantic pockets, crazy big buttons and way too much symmetry.

Although I would definitely sex those "Bolan" boots you posted, hmfff

None of those things you just posted are the same as the jacket you have. I never said a peacoat or 3/4 trench couldn't look good on a dude, and honestly even those examples are all skirting the borderline for me, probably only just getting over based on the fact that all of those guys are model-pretty.

The only examples where that particular style of coat that you have is looking good is when it is completely unfastened, which is kind of silly, because it is a jacket and having to have it unfastened all the time kind of ruins the point of wearing a jacket. Only being able to wear an item one way is fine if that particular item is fucking spectacular. the coat isn't. Sorry!

Uuurrrrrggggh I keep trying to make myself like it or tell myself that it just isn't my kinda Thing and that doesn't make it "bad" as such, because I honestly do feel like a jerk for straight up telling you that it is a bad jacket but I just can't. Those four big pockets with big brass buttons are just really quite ridiculous.

I think I have found the most comfortable shoes ever. I am going to save up for a pair. Possibly these. (I don't care if you think some of them look funny, I am for reals serious about them being comfortable. It's like a tempurpedic mattress for your feet.)

Edit: I just realized that second link doesn't link to the pair I actually want. The Gemini-Vegan ones are the ones I want and are the second to last picture/link in the row. The other two I like are Odyssey and Eclipse-Mesh and are under Terra Fusion.

Linds those shoes are not nice at all. Also I do not think tempurpedic mattresses are comfortable; every time I have slept on one my extremities end up falling asleep and I feel like I can't move. I mean I guess they are ok maybe? Bleh.

I have a low arch, so most shoes don't bother me anyways. And I know they look weird (most are fugly, but some I do like). I don't know what is in them, but whatever it is, it forms itself to your foot and gives pretty damn good support. (If you've ever tried on shoes by the brand Born, they're very similar.) Considering I stand all day and will continue to do so in the future, I want a pair.

And I like tempurpedics. And waterbeds.

Linds would you say that you eat more/less/the same amount of granola than the average person?

Would you say that you are strongly in favour of/ambivalent to/strongly against patchouli oil?

I like granola quite a bit and I kind of like the smell of patchouli. I also listen to a lot of psychedelic music from the 60s, was once president of Students Acting For the Environment (and was also in a Lorax Club and Energy Team in primary school),  and used to make and wear just about every type of hemp jewelry. (I sometimes still do.) But I am not a hippie. :P

Linds don't listen to Katie, those shoes look stupid comfy and I think they're cute. I mean obv not sexy sexy date night shoes, but cute daily-wear shoes that can look good with a skirt or pants and are a bit fancier than a pair of sneakers. Go for it.

Guys, convince me that it is totally ok to spend $30 on an outfit especially since you don't have any summer clothes.

Basically, there is this cute dress, and this cute vest at work and I want them and with my discount it'd be about $30.

I will post pictures of said items when I am on a real computer.

Ok, this is the vest vest, and this is the dress

And while I was closing I found a pair of $2 boots that I can't find on the website, and basically, I think they will look pretty spiffy with the dress and everything, I may have to get those too! $2 boots!

I talked to my boyfriend about it, and he says it is in our budget and is fine and I should really really do it, but I still feel guilty as hell. I hate spending money.

So I bought a dress that I'm pretty happy with for a friend's wedding.  I'm torn what to do about shoes, though.  I've got a pair of brown Mary Jane pumps that might work, but they seem kind of clunky for the dress.  Plus, the ceremony and reception will both be on grass, so I'm not sure I want to spend hours walking around with my heels getting stuck in the mud.

I think I need a pair of sandals, so here's where I need your help: I've never bought a pair of dress sandals, and I'm unsure what (1) looks good in general, (2) goes with my dress, and (3) is appropriate for a wedding.

Here's the dress (I know the skirt needs a little ironing, and my face is dark in the photo, but you get the point):

Thanks for your help, QC!

In what some might see as the logical conclusion to the chambray craze of '09-10, you can now buy stonewashed Jorts at J. Crew

Stop the fashion-train, I want to get off.

I.. yeah Dovey you're right. I briefly considered calling those acceptable but I could not do so in good faith.

Damn it J. Crew, I thought we were friends.

Are they really "jorts," though? Sure, they're terrible, but chambray and denim are different kinds of cotton cloth. Jeans are denim. "jort" = jean + short, no?
