Hey blog, long time (almost) no see!

Here's what's going on in my life at the moment:
-My portfolio for art school is coming along nicely, and it's looking a lot better than I'd expected, thanks to my dear brother who managed to take ace photos of my art and put my sketches together so that they looks professional. Now I just need to write my statement to the Glasgow School of Art and I'll be ready to send it in!
- I just got back from spending a couple of weeks with my boyfriend and his family in the UAE and Jordan, which was pretty much amazing overall. If you're ever in Jordan, go visit Petra by night, and climb up to the monastery on top of the mountain in Petra during the day. It's a long walk/climb, but it's absolutely breathtaking and completely worth it.
- In less than a month I fly to NYC to attend an art history course with two good friends, so excited!
- Oh and I just found out that I have way more money on my account than I thought I had.

Life is good guys!

Your new avatar is terrifying.

Two lectures this morning, both very funny and very interesting. I like this term so far! And for a change I have plenty of time to get my work done for this evening's supervision, because I no longer have two in one day. Busy? Me? (OK still busy but the days are less stressful than I'd expected.)

Hey guys remember a while ago when we were talking about people who kept a certain base amount in their account and someone made the point about just how fast things can stack up and it all gets frittered away before you even realise what's happened?

I learnt that the hard way today. I checked my account on Saturday night, and was like "hey, I've totally got more money than I thought I did, sweet!", the reason for that I now know is because various electronic payments I had sent had not yet gone through like I assumed they had, and all of a sudden $500 disappears from my account and I am officially on the skin of my teeth until the end of the month. Shiiiiit.

I don't think I've been this broke since I left uni. Shiiiiit.

Funny you should mention that, Dovey! Yeah... All of those money was basically a delayed transaction and now I really hope my student loans will come through very soon so I'll be able to pay rent.

I have some though! I'm offering a very reasonable rate of 48% and I'll require at least three items of valuable and/or shiny property as collateral.

Sorry, I don't want your love (no retail value I'm afraid).

Guys, something odd has happened. My captain just sent me a text saying that a parcel had arrived for me at her house, but hadn't been delivered and did I want it to be picked up from the post office.

I have definitely not used her address for any of the multiple things I have ordered lately, so I can't begin to think what it is. My only idea was that I had maybe left something in Finland and they had her address because she booked the trip, but they had mine too because I had to fill out a details card. Now I'm a) intrigued as to what it is and how it has happened, b) worried that in my sleep or madness I have been masquerading as other people and c) concerned that she might think I was rude enough to order a parcel to her address without asking her or telling her.

Very bizarre. What is up with our postal system?

Snow.

I was offered a CD set for €80, so I thought I'd check the price of the same new on Amazon in Euroland.  These were the results:
Amazon France
Amazon Germany

Um, wtf, Amazon? (Guess where I bought it!)

Whut, is the German economy in a downward spiral or something? How odd. Maybe France just likes classical music more?

I don't think the snow can possibly have resulted in an utterly incorrect address being transplanted onto my post. But I have thought of another possibility - my dad has my address and her address in his SatNav because we had planned to drive via her house to pick up my kit (but didn't - long story). I can't see how he could have got them mixed up and I don't think he was posting me anything anyway, but I've emailed him to ask anyway.

ETA: mystery solved. It was indeed my dad being foolish! I had left the cheese Jens gave me for Christmas in the fridge at his house, so they posted it to me except it wasn't my address they used... Hm.

Guys, there's still half an hour til my supervision and I've done all the required reading, all the questions and the essay (which may be the best essay I've written this year). I even have time to do some of the suggested reading! I can't believe how much difference it's made having the supervision a week earlier. I just hope I can keep this up for the rest of the week and be prepared for all of my supervisions!

Also tonight's rehearsal has been cancelled so I can make a start on Thursday's work. I'm actually in shock, this is the first time since I began my degree that I haven't felt like I'm drowning under work.

Seriously. Wow. This is a great feeling.

I have done all the work a week early.

On the downside, the trainwreck of supervisions situation is back.

[whine]

Today is one of those days where I don't really even feel like getting out of bed. It's like everything is a reminder of how much stuff sucks. For awhile now, I've been down to one bra fitting properly, and it finally broke. Today I'm supposed to get another one, but I don't have any clue what size I wear(the one that fits doesn't have a size), and even if I did, I can't really afford buying a bra. And I promised I'd take my kids to the movies today, but I'm stressing out about money, and I just don't feel like leaving my bedroom much less traveling all the way to IL and entertaining a bunch of kids. And I hate when I feel like this because my boyfriend acts all cautious around me and that just adds to the stress. And basically I feel like a dickwad no matter what, and he keeps trying to get me to eat and I don't feel like it, and I know he is getting angry because I won't eat, and siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh. Sometimes, I just want to run away to the mountains or something. All by myself. I don't know what to do to make everybody happy and leave me alone.

ETA: ...and I am missing $100 from my bank account. Which may not seem like that much but when you only have $158 in your bank account that really fucking sucked.

Oooh blog thread...

For some reason the past two months I feel like I've hardly done any work yet seem to have managed to get everything that I wanted to done. Whilst good I'm also beginning to realise I could get twice as much done. This is now my aim. I'm invigilating my first ever exams tomorrow so I hope that goes well. Unfortunately this invigilation means I miss not one, but two awesome games of football that would have been happening at the same time but the pub on campus would show them both. So instead of drinking beer and watching my team play I have to sit in a room for two hours to watch one student sweat their way through an exam. Joy of joys, but I did volunteer so I'll desist from my whinging. I plan on having a super-productive day tomorrow.

Reading this back, it's a bit dull but I just wanted to post something in here. I'll try and have something exciting. A couple months ago I got to read at the Edinburgh Book Festival so if anything that awesome happens again I'll come back.

Today is one of those days

Also I'm trying to save a stray cat that hangs around in my neighborhood. It has apperantly been lost for a long time, so it's all fuzzy and dirty looking. I've fed it a few times, and made contact with people who might be the owners. Now I just have to find it again and catch it.

I can't really afford buying a bra

i had one black bra that fit me pretty well up until my sister stole it and moved up north for the year. i went shopping around for a new black bra a couple of days ago so i can have something to wear with my tank tops during summer because i only have two bras left which are both a sort of peachy skin tone colour and bras are really dang expensive! the cheapest decent quality ones i could find that fit me well were all at least $50. i ended up not buying anything because i was so frustrated and tired and really couldn't bring myself to spend that much, but eventually i'll probably have to because anything cheaper than that i could find was just awful and overly padded and didn't work at all. bra shopping fucking sucks.

Tonight I was watching Bran Nue Dae (lovely, entertaining little film - go see it if you get a chance) and I made an important realisation, so simple in its profundity that I wondered why on earth I hadn't realised it before:

Any ordinary every-day sadness or trevail can be almost instantly cured by a shuffle beat.

Yes. Really good health insurance, too.

Everyone from Illinois is flocking to Missouri doctors since Illinois doctors are fleeing from Illinois like it is actively raping them. Raping them constantly and continuously.

I gave up on finding a doctor. I am stubborn and have not had one in forever, and now that I am finally attempting to find one, I'm getting pushed around, so I'm done with it. I've got more phone calls to make today, and I can't sit on hold with them forever.

I did call the bank and get some of my bank stuff figured out though! Which is nice. I'm now waiting on Amazon to call me to find out why they charged me $100. Then I have to call Xbox and find out why they charged me xbox live when it is not due until next November.

And now I'm on the phone with Amazon talking to someone I cannot understand who keeps calling me ma'am and putting me on hold.

My hopes were not high for this call, but.... I TOTALLY GOT MY $100 BACK!!! I am super excited now!

Whisky* :-)

Needed that.

Today, When the man came from the garage to collect the car for a service (two hours late), he refused to take it because he saw that the car tax was 7 months out of date!!!  So I called the car tax people, who told me that according to their records we didn't own the car (hence no reminders...); they also told me that it could be sorted out in no more than 20 working days, during which time we could not drive the car.  In the end, it got sorted in three hours, during which I worked on nothing else.

Then I tried sorting out a computer that wasn't updating (continuation of work I was doing yesterday).  It wouldn't complete the installation of XP SP3; eventually, after several hours work, I managed to force it to, but then it said there were no more updates (there should be 60-odd).  So, after a full image backup, I did a repair install of Windows (using a disk with SP3 integrated), which hung on the last reboot; but it recovered from that, and when I tried to check updates again, IE gave a weird error message.  It turns out that if you do a repair install of Windows after installing IE7 or IE8, you end up with a mix of IE6 and IE7/8 DLLs which doesn't work.  A manual uninstall of IE8 restored IE7 (thus updating and downgrading simultaneously to get a working system!), and at 11pm, it decided that updates are a good idea, and everything is sort-of hunkey-dorey.

Tomorrow is another day...

Daer blag thread,

Things are looking up oh holy fuck are they ever looking up. My buddy Logan and I went up waaaaaay the hell north of here (all the way up to Petaluma) today to run an errand involving Logan's BMW obsession. While we were there, I noticed a gorgeous 528i, the E12 body series. Fucker runs beautifully, and is for sale at a whopping $132 (that's what Pick And Pull Wreckers were going to pay the guy for the car). Logan and his brother were already planning on buying it just to dink around and make it run well, then flip it. Now the plan is for Logan to buy it, dink around with it, and flip it to ME. I'll gradually pay back what they spent on parts, and make their labor worth their while for the whole shebang.

tl;dr I will probably have myself an early '80s BMW about 3 paychecks after I get a job.

Also, I'm feeling much more confident about finding a job. Had a talk with Logan while we were driving, and from what he's been seeing here in town, job search prospects are significantly better than they seemed to me at first. I mean, guy's got three jobs, so why the hell should it be possible to not find one, AMIRITE?

Love,
Me!

I hope you made all the Logan's Run jokes you could while you were running errands with Logan.

I did not, but a quick Google search revealed a film that I would not mind seeing.

Paul, good lord, you DID need whisky. Getting red taped to the ceiling when red tape shouldn't even be there in the first place is basically the Dumbest Thing.
