Hey guys, should I be suspicious of someone who says their website (it's a discussion forum, mainly, and no it's not this one) gets just under one million unique views a day?

What is a "unique view"?  Too many sites (it seems to me) simply count all the fetch commands (including all CSS and image files), and thus end up at least an order of magnitude higher than you might expect.

dear blog.

I am in love. It is all very tragic.*  I have had a very weird and crazy week. Instead of going to university I went to Trier on monday to see The Notwist. Then I decided to maybe stay and catch Isis on wednesday (yesterday, that is). But I couldn't find a place to sleep because all my best friends apparently are not to be counted on at all. So I took the train to Saarbrücken where I could crash at a (real) friend's place. I couldn't go home because I had to uphold the lie of being at university.
In Saarbrücken I got involved in preparations for some guy's birthday party (I didn't even know him). The party was yesterday. After the party I almost got in a fight in a bar. This is because I don't care anymore. Today I went home.
Waiting for me was, luckily, Future of the Left's newst album, which I am listening to right now. It makes things better. I think it's really good.

* I might ask the Relationship about this, or maybe not.

It took me several seconds to realise you were not writing an article about how to shave a website.

Today I'm working 5.30-9.30 and I'm unreasonably irritated that I have to get the 3.10 bus into work. My mum is working, her partner is visiting his mum and although these are both things that happen every Thursday, I wasn't expecting them so being woken at 7.30 to be told that I have to get the bus was a bit annoying. The problem is that I'll be in town two hours early and there is literally nothing to do. I haven't got any money and there's nothing I need to buy (and most of the shops have shut down anyway), and my brilliant plan of going to the library and working on my shorthand with my new book crashed and burned when I remembered the library is shut on Thursdays.

I wish I lived in a more vibrant town. I'm going to have to go to a cafe, order a drink with money I can't really afford to spend and hide away with a notebook for an hour or so, and then go do the same in the back of work until my shift starts. It's too rainy to walk.

You are correct sir!

Funnily enough, Dovey is also in the story! It's about shaving websites.

Oh hooray! I was just about to shoot you a Facebook message asking how that whole malarkey was panning out.

Does anyone know of independent website ranking thingies I could use to check this out?

For reference they have ~17,000 registered members, and 1,325,289 posts.

Man that happens to me all day every day Allison.

So hey my boy is back!
His plane was almost two hours late so I hung around with his parents, which was nice, and talked about how I've sorted things out for myself with my fancy new job and singing lessons and things. Then he got in! And it was so nice and I couldn't stop smiling! But so awkward. His parents were there. He doesn't have a beard anymore (IT'S CRAZY HE HAS CHEEKS I'M NOT SURE IF I LIKE IT AT ALL)! We got to be alone for like five minutes and then we just sort of kissed really awkwardly (airport chairs are not made for kissing) and then I had to go because I had tickets to see HARRY POTTER AT IMAX 3D SO AWESOME OH YEAAAAAAH

I have to laugh.  That job I applied and interviewed for like a month ago... well, the staffing woman called me.  She apologized profusely for how long the process is taking but informed me that I am the number one candidate and they have the offer ready for me.  They're just waiting for the COO's approval.  This may happen before end of day tomorrow.  Of course, I'm leaving work early tomorrow and of course, the staffing woman is on vacation all of next week.  So it looks like another week of waiting.  It's like I am a horse and the job is the carrot on a stick.  Ugh!

dear blog thread,

last night i went to see future of the left (they are so amazing live omg) and met an incredibly cute boy and had makeouts with him.  good times! and i'm not even thinking about whether i'll end up seeing that boy again and being dumb and angsty. i know i most likely won't (unless i do something ridiculous like write a missed connections ad about him on craigslist!), but i'm not upset about it.

I just realized the other day that I have stopped watching TV for awhile now.  When the original switch happened I had gotten a converter box and everything seemed fine.

However the local broadcasters were also moving to a different broadcasting tower AS WELL as switching over to digital so even though I was able to get digital signals weeks before the original switchover now it was touch and go.

So I said screw it.  Why bother?  Why bother wasting money on cable and why bother trying to get an amplified antenna set up.

I really don't miss TV and I realize that switching on the TV was a just a habit.

I would rather put my time into MAKING a TV show rather than watching one.  I just got the official rules and paperwork for starting my public access show.  It all seems pretty good so far.  I should be able to edit everything on my old computer.

I got permission from several bands (Including Deathmole) to include their music in the show!

So a while back my primary, agreed-upon summer job got canceled because the company's typical heavy season wasn't bringing in enough business to hire me. Fine, I still have my backup job, working San Diego Comic Con. At least that's not in jeopardy. Right?

Dear Blog Thread,

Yesterday I missed the last twenty minutes of the new Harry Potter film because I thought I was going to have a big ol' allergic reaction. It blew. But then I had the most delicious dinner of my life, which kind of made up for it.

Also, the company I worked for last year called me about a month ago to ask if I was free this summer, since they had a big contract that they might need extra copywriting/marketing staff for. I said YES YES YES OH GOD I WILL DO ANYTHING IF YOU PAY ME but I haven't heard another word from them yet. I hate the suspense. Would it be rude to call and ask, do you think?

I gave my little girl her first haircut.  She kept moving.  2 inches was what I had hoped to trim.  Her hair was down to her butt.  Now it is to her chin.  This is not a good night and I'm going to go continue crying while I finish working around the house.

Hah, that's awesome, you're going to make Jeph FAMOUS!

Do you have an editing program in mind? I'm using MAGIX Edit Pro 15 for the PC, which is a pretty good 2nd tier program (Pro is first tier, $60-$100 2nd tier, then there's some share/freeware). It's strong on the actual editing, but relatively weak on adding graphics. It will do plain text ok, but flashier moving text with the fancy backgrounds have to be created in a separate program then imported.

I just mentioned in the music topic that I've finished editing episode 2 of my own show, now awaiting word on the air date. Uploaded a 2nd clip from the first show.  :-D

EDIT: just added a teaser clip for episode #2. Cute drummer.

My grandmother called to say that there's someone in her garage stealing from her.

There wasn't. She did, however, call my father, myself, my aunt, and a friend of hers to come over and explain the whole story from beginning to end each time while people restrained themselves from throttling her because she does this so much.

But she gave me ice cream.

Its Sunday yo.  At 2pm (ish. My bus gets in at 1 and I have to dump my luggage at Paul's place) at the Plough Inn!

Aaron wont be there though, so you still don't get to meet him.  the buses were all very inconveniently timed and expensive for it to make sense. :(

Dear Diary,

It is 3:30 pm, I am still drunk. Last night I lost my ipod. I also fell down a lot while walking home. This was because I got very drunk. I got drunk because my tiny little heart is very much broken and I am utterly sad and things don't make sense anymore. In about an hour I have to go to work, at least I can drink here.

Well right now I have an older version of Premier.  Using Photoshop with Premier I can pretty much do anything I need to.  I am going to be using a lot of old school editing techniques.  I can do stuff like Split Screen, Greenscreen and custom transition wipes with Premier so I think that's going to fit my needs pretty well.  I want a certain look for the show and I don't think I need to use very many fancy graphical elements for that.

I would love to work on a decent Mac running Final Cut Pro of course but that's pipe dream at this point in my financial situation.

PS Nice video Clip!  I hope to do some decent interviews as well.

So I made a mistake last night. I probably shouldn't have made out with her because she is way too into religion and it has made her regret doing the things that normal girls do when they are going to college. I probably shouldn't have felt her up either. Then I probably shouldn't have spent like 7 hours playing guitar hero and Dynasty Warriors. But I had to unify China and usher in a new era of peace and prosperity. Also, awkward times are going to ensue Saturday when I run an exalted game for the girl and her sisters.

Last night I did karaoke for seven hours, from 11 until 6.
Neat. I did karaoke last night from like 10 till three. I will be amazed if I remember that tomorrow. Also the girl that I was sort of trying to get with the whole night turned out to be married. FML I guess even though that's just how shit turns out so I guess I can't complain.

So today I immortalised Dovey in print.

Also it looks like one of the sub-editors decided to completely re-write a dude's name to be wrong. What is with subs.

So I went to a coffee shop and played piano there. Apparently it was really good but I don't know about that - I was just doing something to try and channel this all out.

I've been just so fucking depressed lately, especially since a girl who I've been close with for the last year told me last night, "I couldn't spend forever with you. It's all those little things you do that I couldn't handle every day." I tried to get clarification on *what* she meant but she can't/won't tell me and now that's all I've been thinking of.

I think 75% of my time in the past week has been spent laying in bed and doing absolutely nothing because it's so hard to even bother doing anything. So hard to even sit up or comb my hair or go get something to eat. I just feel like I'm dying away and no one is noticing or caring.

Granted, I could get on anti-depressants but when I do that I'm so annoyingly happy that people want me to go away so there's no point in that.

Hey, but I'll be drinking heavily tomorrow. That's bound to cheer me up.

Sounds like you need a new hobby. Get a bike or something off of craigslist. It'll get your ass out of bed and some place new every day. Plus the endorphins will make you feel better, and after a long bike ride you'll sleep better.

Get a unicycle.
That way, you will have to learn to ride it all over again.
