Glad to hear you're back safe Jodie.

Blog head! I just got offered a job writing and editing for a newspaper. It is not a newspaper newspaper, but it is a newspaper about newspapers (it is the industry newspaper for newspapers). While this is kind of confusing, I'm fairly sure it's a good thing, though I'm not sure how much there is to write about newspapers. But yeah, at least it pays money and will be writing for/with journalists/editors.

Problem is I switched to full-time studies this semester, and I have to withdraw or confirm my uni subjects tomorrow otherwise I get charged for them, and the meeting about the newspaper job is on Monday. I mean, he offered me the job over the phone but there is nothing formally written down yet. It also means I'd be unavailable to do any more interning at actual news-places. Pretty sure I'll go for it anyway, though.

Awesome (did I already know that? Have I seen a pretty reddish ring or did I dream that?) Jordan!

Well the uni thing is on hold for a while, but yes Will was right, if I don't get into Cambridge then Birmingham say they will still take me and that my accommodation isn't any less secure next week that it is now. So I'll keep checking the UCAS website and see what happens. I'm fairly sure that I'll be going to Birmingham; I missed my offer on all subjects but on my worst one I missed it by almost 10%.

Nevertheless I am going out tonight to celebrate because I got five As! And that is a good result! If I hadn't had this Cambridge thing I would have been over the moon! So fun times will be had anyway.

Incidentally one of my friends is going to study Psychology at Cardiff so you might meet her :)

Cool, assuming the physics students ever mix with the psychology students  And...5 As? Sheesh...How was that not good enough for Cambridge? I got AAAB, and a B in General Studies (which doesn't make any difference), so there's no way I could have got in. Good job I find the place insufferable  :-P

I'm not sure that is a standard Cambridge offer, I think it's partly because my GCSEs weren't great and partly because I was inappropriately attired at interview. Either way, they asked me for 92% in all subjects except General Studies (ironically, I got 96% in that) and I didn't get it. So I have to wait and see.

partly because I was inappropriately attired at interview

This is precisely why I would never apply to Oxbridge universities. Maybe I would, actually, just so I could go to the interview in a Bad Religion t-shirt or something.

Oh how I wish I was done with university stuff.  I've already got a Bachelor's degree (two, in fact.  One in music and the other in physics).  But now I'm getting a damned PhD, and in order to get that, one must pass a preliminary examination on (count them) 14 subjects.  It's over three days.  I'm good on the first day subjects (kind of, my quantum is a bit shaky and the E&M is being written by a senile person, so it could be really easy or impossible).  On the second day, I'm fairly screwed (it's all on subjects that require knowing a lot of equations, and I'm terrible at that sort of thing).  On the third day, it's hit or miss.  I'm great on some subjects, and some are impossible (I haven't actually taken classes on any of the subjects, only a few people have).  So now I'm reviewing quantum angular momentum, but really I'm just trying not to study, which is unfortunate.

Birmingham sounds like a good city, the uni has a good reputation and there seems to be a lot going on there in terms of culture. I'm pretty jealous that Leeds doesn't have anything like The Custard Factory. Also, 5 As is a fantastic result. Well done!

Wow.  Just wow.  My friends and I went to a big concert shortly before going to college, which was a great, unplanned last thing before college.

As for squawk.  Makes more sense now that I re-read it with that information.  One guy I knew in high school got in an accident (involving another car) on his first full day driving with a license.  We had a good laugh at his expense, of course, but it really does suck.  So I'm sorry to hear that, but welcome to the world of licensed drivers!

Kickass! Which college?
I applied to Cambridge but they turned me down, possibly because the light chat and interview I had prepared for turned out to be a full on exam which I hadn't prepared for.
It was either that or I was keeping it too real with my northern accent. Innit.

I'd like to get down there myself at some point, it's where my girlfriend grew up and a lot of her friends are still there so I'd really like to get to see the place first hand after a long time of hearing about it.

Aw dang Hannah, I did that as well. The Real World isn't necessarily so scary once you get that full time job. It's really nice having money even if I have to pay my loans back, and you can always go back right? I quit when I had a semester left because I hated my minor, so now starting again in January and instead of getting my BS in Sociology with a minor in management communication I'll be getting a BA of Sociology so I'll be taking two years of a foreign language, which basically means one class a semester for two years. Hooray!

I'll see your pricey Newtown and raise (lower?) you a moderately cheaper room in Stanmore for $160.

Also Hannah I think the census is different for different unis for some reason, don't know why... I pulled out of all but one subject, anyway.

Also also I am accidentally a photographer! I was at a friend's work taking photos of another friend's graffiti/mural thing that he's doing for said work, and they're going to use one of the photos I took in an advertisement. Wooo!

I am currently looking for a new place to live in Toowoomba so I can no longer have housemates, and a kitchen that is so filthy I dry retch whenever I walk in there, and not have a leaking sewerage pump outside my room that gives me a delightful smell daily.

The awesome thing is that I can get a two story 3 bedroom unit for $185 here.  I do not envy your Sydney prices at all.

I am also looking for a new job so I dion't have to hate my life anymore! YAY!

With cake ownership set to C and cake consumption set to K, then C + K = 0.  So indeed as one consumes a cake, one simultaneously deprives oneself of cake ownership.

But Hannah, I really LIKE Toowoomba, so that is ok by me :P

Also the sewerage thing is a problem with the sewerage system at the house, not the city in general.  We have had it fixed but it just keeps being disgusting and ugh god.
