Had my birthday party yesterday, it was pretty rad. We got trashed and I blew out some candles and ate cake and more events. Then I went to bed with my good friend Courtney and woke up a little while later and we were having make-outs? When she left (sober), we kissed goodbye. I don't know how this is going to play out, but damn I think that was one of my better birthdays, haha.

Fuck I love doing charity things. It is amazingly fun. I'm dying to know how much money we made. God. We're doing a raffle, and because of how many people we had coming in we had to push it back an hour. We went though 4 rolls of tickets. Its amazing. The raffle is going on now, and I'm outside smoking, and so many people are coming up to me and thanking me for all the work I've done. Like even without the thanks I still love this. Just knowing that I'm helping out is amazing. Doing all of this work is great. I'm super excited.

It's Sleeping with the Enemy and it turns out it may not have been wiped after all, it might just be that VCRs have zones like DVDs (I was not aware of this), so I could be ok if I visit the US again.

It's after midnight and my friend is coming over tomorrow at 8 friggin am. Whilst I'm glad she's coming, that's SO EARLY. I mean, in order for me to be up and dressed and not trying to feed cats and stuff around her, I will have to get up earlier than I got up for college. What the hell, man? It is the holidays!

I'm only partly joking.

Oh, it's terrible.  I hate it, but I want to get a PhD from the best optics school in the country, and they accidentally let me in.  I'm waiting for the notice to come in the mail:

Dear Mr. Bassist,
We've just realized that you're actually a moron.  Why are you here?  Don't come back.

Sincerely,
University of Rochester

p.s.  Really excited about the Grand Prix in Valencia tomorrow.  McLaren seem to have a competitive car, which should make things a bit more interesting, though I do expect them to be running way far ahead unless Hamilton or Kovalainen stuffs is stupid and stuffs it, which is fairly probable.  Hopefully it'll be close.
When you get here, I will show you where the good eats are, and the good bars, and the good tunes. :D

I've been in Rochester for a year now.  Haven't gotten much located, though, because I've been a busy bee trying to avoid that letter in the mail.  On Wednesday, things get tons easier.

so we are getting evicted this Sunday and as a result I am spending my day off shovelling an inch of mattress foam off the ground underneath our house. I don't know how it got there, ever since I moved in the downstairs area has been completely covered in this shit, and it has apparently been that way for a long time, but it all has to go if we are going to get our bond back.

Also for some reason it is swelteringly hot today despite the fact that it is still winter.

Guys, can you all do me a favor? Never, ever, ever go to grad school. It will destroy all that you are and drive you to alcoholism. Except you won't actually be able to afford even cheap alcohol.

Who does qualifying exams in January?  I've done lab work, and it's frustrating, but not nearly as stressful, nor as time-consuming as studying for this godawful test (14 fucking subjects!  14!)

I don't know, they just have us take them in the january of our second year. The idea is that they give us the entire winter break off from lab work (5 weeks for us). While technically there were only 9 subjects on mine, a lot of them were things like "General Microbiology" which meant that the professors could ask us any question they damn well please.

And just wait until you have only a few months before your lab needs to submit 2 grants, one of which is going to be based about 50% on data you need to produce, and the other about 80%. It sucks.

Oh, the adviser I'm working for doesn't need grants to operate.  It's pretty awesome.  I get paid by a fellowship (he gets fellowships to support three students) and his budget comes out of the larger lab.  The only thing we might have to do is sometimes build some stuff that the LLE (lab for laser energetics) needs, but usually we don't, because they have engineers to do that.  So we just get to do whatever we want, on our own time.  It's about the sweetest setup that could possibly exist.

You're just jealous that I found an awesome hole in the system.

But I still have to take qualifiers, and those are still a bitch.  It's especially difficult because the professors here don't give a shit about teaching, so even in the classes that I have taken, I have no idea what's going on.  Then there's the third day with six classes that I haven't taken.

I don't know, they just have us take them in the january of our second year.

On an unrelated note, I saw Shakespeare performed outside at the coutyard of our local medieval fortress. The actors were really good, Juliet was really hot, and over all it was a nice day.

We are also, as third graders* has to prepare the annual drama class boat trip, which will include lot's of fun stuff. It will include cowboys, indians, swine flu and boy bands, among other fun things. Yay!

HEY BARCLAYCARD.

You approved me for a card so I can replace my MacBook with a new one. You said you sent the info to Apple and that it'd be through automatically, so I could just sign in and order.

YEAH THAT'S NOT HAPPENING YOU COCKS.

Hi Blog,

First class today. It's on Final Cut Pro for video editing. Should be fun. The other 2 classes are tomorrow, one on Adobe After Effects, the other on TV camera operation. It's been so freakin' long since I've been in school.  :-o

Yesterday I was cleaning out some old shit, found a notebook with some story ideas and scenes. One line, all by itself on a page: Hiring myself out as a computer subroutine may not be the most glamorous job around, but at least it's more dignified than being on the dole. I have NO memory of that or what I was planning to do with it, but damn that's a cool line.

I just found out the staff at my school are Futurama nerds. In the yearbook-ish thing their heads are floating in jars. The best part is the vice principal doesn't have a picture, so they slapped a pic of bender on there.
