So blog thread, today I fell down the entire flight of stairs at my house and spent most of the day trying to find someone to strap my wrist for me, because i sprained it. i then spent several hours at the hospital because nobody would do it and had xrays and stuff. i got a sling out of it, though. i managed to strap it left-handed and it really hurts. i'm covered in bruises and i haven't packed anything for my weekend in bexhill because my everything hurts. yay.

I got a call earlier from one of my coworkers telling me that my boss' sister died this morning, so I should come in late, and she would let me know if they decide to not open the shop.

I am terrible at dealing with these kind of situations; I never know what to say. "Hope you're ok"? They wouldn't be ok, a relative just died. "That really sucks"? Not really very sympathetic. I normally just stand around and look awkward and sad and hope the people get what I mean. I hope they do decide to keep the cafe closed today, because it would be really hard to work when someone close died earlier that morning. All round shitty situation, though.

I usually just say "I'm so sorry for your loss, this must be really hard for you" and then try extra hard not to do anything that would upset them.  Unless you are a close confidante of theirs (in which case you wouldn't be wondering what to do) then it's kind of insincere and annoying to be super consoling.

Blaggy,

My friend brought over an adorable baby bunny today. It was small and spotted and cute and nibbled on my finger. It escaped, however, and she had to chase it down (while I followed more slowly. I didn't want to freak it out anymore than she was). When she finally grabbed him, he started spazzing out and she handed him to me to see if I could anything, at which point the baby bunny died in my arms.

I'm kind of sad but not really upset. C'est la vie, c'est la mort, right? My friend's pretty freaked out though.

On the other hand, I'm arguing with my father that he needs to throw his shit out. No, you don't need floppy discs from 1993 with programs that you never used. No, you don't need broken lamps because you will never fix them no matter how many times you say you will. No, you don't need to keep everything you have ever had period. Stop it. Stop it.

So, uh, ranty post.

Oh man that thing about the bunny sucks! It's sad how tiny things can die from shock and silly things like that. I've had a bird and a mouse die in similar situations, and it really upsets you. :(

Han I hope work turns out okay!

So my birthday as kinda nice. I just moved to Canada recently, so it was just my family. My grandpa got hospitalized on the way over to the restaurant. Something terrible happened to my uncle(who couldn't attend) near the end of the shindig. My aunt was kinda vague after he talked to him on the phone. But uh, other then those 2 things it was rather nice.

Edit: also dang that poor bunny

That's probably what happened...shock. I'm actually not upset at all and I feel worse over the fact that I don't feel bad about it rather than Dolly actually dying. I'm just kind of casually sad that it died so young and I just hope my friend gets over it.

HOLY CRAP GUYS!

I got the job I really wanted as a legal secretary/PA to a lawyer!  full time real life job here I come!  I am mega stoked because I got a new perfect place to live and a new awesome job in under a month after coming back from overseas.

It means goodbye to my shavies though :(  I'm going to miss them.  I will still keep my sides as short as is reasonable, but it's going to be so weird to always have hair on the sides of my head.

Guys I don't have to be a grocery bitch anymore.  or start work at 5am anymore.  And I will get a whole hour for lunch!  And paid holidays!  AND A JOB IM NOT ASHAMED OF

I had my first session today! It went something like this:

10:00PM - Get microphones and go to the studio
10:45PM - Get microphones working and going to tape
11:15PM - Give up and call a friend to figure out hot to get the headphones working for our talent
11:15-1:45 - HOLY SHIT LEARNING, record two songs, walk out with a guitar song that is not quite entirely shameful

When's the last time I told you guys I had the coolest major ever?

Jodie that is the most awesome thing! I am so so excited for you!
I am sort of PA at my job (but not really, only when the real PA is too busy or away) and there is something that happens to a person when they get a PA, they revert to a childish state and become unable to do any slightly mundane tasks themselves. Be prepared to be picking up lots of mess and constantly reminding them of things!

Highlight of our Werewolf game:
getting into a fight with a packmate about burning bodies and he picks me up so I decide to hurricanrana him as a counter. He turns it into a sit down power bomb. I countered this by pushing my weight forward as he pulled me up and dropping on top of him. Then our mediator finally stepped in.
We get bonus dice if we pull off the ridiculous wrestling moves. Also it is cool to see 9 foot tall werewolves do that shit.

So the ticket we bought for my best friend to get back from Arizona the next couple weeks is moot, because we accidentally put it in his girlfriend's name on priceline, and they won't let us change it.  So after about an hour and a half of bitching at them at 7:30 in the morning didn't accomplish anything, I just went and bought another ticket somewhere else.  I'm like 50% angry because it's such a ridiculous thing to have to deal with...you would think that for something like this they'd have a verify page for people to doublecheck everything.  But I'm also completely stoked that he is still coming back, albeit 6 hours later.  So right now, I want to punch Shatner in the dick, but also shake his hand?

HOLY CRAP GUYS!
A JOB IM NOT ASHAMED OF

FUCK YOU SO JEALOUS!!

In other news I've been working a lot lately (which has in turn been making me really depressed because I hate my job but don't have the confidence or interest in my own well-being to find something else) and so last week I bought a new TV. We didn't need one but I decided that I want to move with the times so I used my tax return and some other money I had saved up and bought a high-definition 50" plasma flat screen abomination. I even managed to surprise my girlfriend with it as I didn't tell her I was going to get it so while she was at home on her day off a delivery-man rocks up and gets her to sign for a delivery for me. At first she nearly sent him away because she wasn't expecting anything but when she found out it was for me she just assumed it was more Sandman comics or something so it was a nice surprise. Granted I was hoping it would be delivered the next day so I could have it set up for when she got home but it turns out I needed her help to lift it onto the TV cabinet anyway so whatever.

So I was all taking a totally awesome snooze today and the storm outside got really loud (it woke me up!) and I was all "oh weird, that is kind of astonishingly loud for a storm!" and then I heard the sirens going off and I was like "hmm, it's not Wednesday" (they test the sirens the first Wednesday of every month at 2 PM) but I didn't put the two together until later when I woke up and found a punch of my friends posted pictures of funnel clouds. One was pretty much right over my apartment (directly above where Liz works!).

I was already convinced that I am someday going to die from doing something incredibly stupid, like accidentally mixing chemicals and turning my toilet into a bomb or something but this basically proves it.

Blaggy,

So my father has decided to try this whole 'throwing things away' thing.

He put a book in fairly good condition from 1899 in the trash.

!?! What the fucking hell man

Also, while going through stuff, I found an old copy of Sam and Max Hit the Road from the early 90's. I don't know if it still works but goddamn I am going to try.

"Do you mind if I drive, Sam?"
"Only if you don't mind me clawing at the dash and shrieking like a cheerleader."

Also, dying from a toilet bomb is a seriously shitty way to go.

So I got to sleep around 3 AM last night thanks to a progressively awful sleeping pattern that's been developing in place of a social/work life after a long talk with my mother about her childhood and mine and all those really nostalgic things.  Then I wake to her screaming at me to help from the front room at around 5 AM.  She has developed a case of pneumonia on top of her already chronic asthma, and had to be taken by ambulance to the hospital.  The hospital treated her very nicely and supplied her with all the medications they thought could possibly help, but after 8 hours they admitted her to the ICU, where she is now spending the night.  She's pretty stably disabled for the moment, but I am worried something might go wrong while I am not there.  This has been a long day.

Well lets download lots of games! $65? Oh that's not too much even though it is well over what Emaline wanted to spend on her game, but man, spending a lot of money on my friend is so much better spending a small amount of money on my girlfriend. Why would I ever do that? Besides, she wanted to download games that we will both enjoy and my friend just wants to download NBA games that he will enjoy and I will hate, that's totally a better idea than what dumb old Emaline had! And now she is talking at me while I'm trying to play this game. Gosh. Why's she gotta do a thing? I am just going to talk over her and direct all of my sentences to my friend. Gosh why would she even think that what she has to say is important? So dumb. And now she needs help with the connection on the xbox. Sigh. I just started a match, I'll just tell her I'll help her after this match. I mean, I realize its late and she wants to play some video games before she goes to bed but this is so much more important. Alright, match over. Aww, look she is immersed in a different game. Oh! I know what to do. Hey Emaline, do you still need me to help you?  Ok. Well, I started up another match. Sorry. Oh you already shut off your game that you couldn't save because you thought I was going to help you hahaha. Sorry!"

Yesterday I went to a show where Jan Smit, De Drie J's en Guus Meeuwis played music.

This means nothing to you. Therefore I'll provide some youtube evidence.

I can honestly say ... I have been to better shows.

Now you too know about the dregs of dutch music. I forgot my ear protection and I'm now death and I have this persistent ringing in my ear which I hope and pray will go away again. Ringing ears aren't cool but if I got them at this show I'm never going to go out ever again.

Some evangelist program is on TV and the woman "reading" from a Christian text is turning the pages in the wrong direction. Getting so sick of conservatives.

Maybe it's in Hebrew?

Definitely not in Hebrew. It's not actually scripture, either. I thought maybe they reversed the video for some reason but you can still read the title of the book and it is definitely in that direction that the woman is turning the pages. Also she was reading out loud, so you know.

Someone finally made a manga of the bible to reach out to kids and make Japan think Jesus was a gundam.

So, I helped my friend with the Optics Department picnic today.  I thought it would consist of:
1)  Buy Drinks (sodas, water and beer)
2)  Transport drinks to picnic area
3)  Enjoy awesome picnic with a bunch of people I know and like
4)  Have a relaxing afternoon

Instead, it consisted of:
1)  Buy Drinks
2)  Go to several stores trying to find tablecloths
3)  Grab a quick snack/breakfast
4)  Try to figure out what kind of charlie foxtrot was happening when the place we had reserved with the park service was occupied by another group, despite the fact that we had a print-out of our confirmation for having reserved that place at that time on that date.  It turns out the park service screwed up royally, and we had to move the picnic to a much smaller area as well as try to notify everyone attending that everything was wrong.
5)  Try to enjoy the picnic that was eventually pretty cool and populated by a bunch of people I like
6)  OH GOD HEADACHE!
7)  Clean up, which lasted about two hours and was possibly the most miserable experience of my life, due to probably the worst headache I've ever had.  Also, the clean-up crew consisted of apparently the only four really awesome people in the optics department.
8)  Be really annoyed at my friend who is having a party at his house tonight, and wanted the left-over food at his house, so he agreed to take it, but then didn't take it and now I have to keep it at my apartment until I bring it over to his place.  I think I might be more annoyed about this fact than I should be, except this friend is constantly a complete flake and I never call him on it.

I desperately need a shower, since I moved trash bags for about a half hour and am really gross.  I'm really unhappy right now and in a lot of pain.  The pain is fortunately abating to some degree.  Hopefully the unhappiness will follow.

There really is nothing remotely like the Last Night of the Proms.  And of those I've seen & heard, this year's (just this moment finished) was one of the best.
