You know how you see little kids and they have snot coming out their nose and it's just hanging out there on their upper lip and they don't care?

That is me, except I care, but my nose is all raw from blowing it so much that I don't want to hurt it even more. I need to go buy some fuckin' cold and flu tablets before I go to work tonight.

Chicago is awesome. Best Friends are awesome. The Decemberists were fucking amazing. Hazards Of Love is amazing. My boyfriend is amazing and beautiful, and life is fucking beautiful.

Awesome, amazing and beatiful! This is good to hear.

Dear Bitch Thread,

Continuing on with the theme of "you would not believe the day I had", yesterday sucked, monstrously (although in hindsight I guess it was my fault. That doesn't make it better). For some idiotic reason I decided to wear my cowboy boots, and walk 5km to the train station. I'm not very fit at all. So almost instantly my calfs, hamstrings, ankles, and arches started killing me. Then about halfway there I noticed that something in the sole of the right boot was very sharp and rubbing on my foot. I toughed it out until I got to the train station, when I got there it took about 10 minutes to take the boot off (they are very hard to take off by yourself!). In the process of taking the boot off I did something- I'm not entirely sure what- very painful indeed to my calf muscle, and I was literally paralysed with pain for about five minutes, with my foot stuck halfway in a boot. When I managed to regain my composure I got the boot the rest of the way off and found that the sole lining of the boot had lifted up and was jutting at an angle, directly in to my foot, resulting in a large and ugly and painful blister.

I got to work and started in on some paperwork (22 pages of names, addresses and emails to enter into a database. I'd already spent a good deal of the week entering it in, and had only made 12 pages in). that I was running a good way behind on, thinking that I'd be able to finally finish it if I managed to make it through my shift without any major distractions.

Of course, right on cue, I was asked to help fix a computer problem. I spent 3 hours on that, and got absolutely nowhere, except for managing to neglect everything else I had to do, thus giving me 15 minutes to do what I'd usually take 2 hours for. Part of this includes mailing out marketing materials. As my luck would have it today happened to be the day we run out of postage stamps. What with the Post Office being closed (because I wasted all that time failing to fix the computer)  I had to run- in my painful and uncomfortable boots, with blister a-throbbing- 3 blocks to the nearest newsagent, where I managed to procure enough stamps. I did not procure a receipt for the stamps, however. So, I had to run the 3 blocks again, to find the newsagent had closed in the intermittent time. So, no receipt. So, now I get to spend the weekend looking forward to being lectured on Monday.

TL;DR: The universe is laughing at me

Man are we talking about shitty days? Last Saturday I took the judge's pick award at a vegan bake off, won six pounds of organic sugar, went to a Yo La Tengo show (amazing), then stayed up all night for nuit blanche in toronto where among other things I saw a blindfolded cage match wrestling thing in the bus terminal and a section of town made to feel post-apocalyptic. The next morning I had an amazing brunch with bacon pie, blueberry pancakes, and sausage with kraut and hasbrowns. All this was done in the company of one of my best, oldest friends.

Tomorrow I'm going to Manchester to go see the Mountain Goats.

I had time to practice today!  Playing upright is so much more enjoyable than electric, but also harder.  My intonation was crap, and I could only practice for about a half hour.  As for now, a local cookware store is having a big sale, and so I'm going to check out what they have with one of my friends.  I don't really want anything, but I have a feeling that I'm going to see something I'll feel I can't live without and be forced to buy it, because it's on sale.  I hate going to cookware stores, because I really do want all of it.

Additionally:  My GOD!  Don't ride a motorcycle if it's 50F outside and all you've got is mesh riding gear (except helmet, of course).  My jacket lets all the air through, but more importantly, my gloves are useless for keeping my hands warm.

Blag,
I saw Death Of A Salesman last night with my now-girlfriend. It was really, incredibly good. Today, she came over and we watched MEGA SHARK VS GIANT OCTOPUS and then The Nightmare Before Christmas and cuddled and stuff.
At school, we're rehearsing for our competition show which I'm doing sound for. It's rather fun as I get to play very loud punk rawk between scenes.
Love,

Thank you, Tommy. We've gotten a little more information since this morning.. It's acute leukemia, and her 3-week illness is because of it. The doctors at the local hospital today took one look at her symptoms and started doing blood tests. The oncologist there Medevac'd her off to Johns Hopkins University Hospital, which has one of the best cancer treatment centers in the area and is only about 90 minutes away. I think we're going to visit her this evening or in the next few days, once she's settled in up in Baltimore.

Hey guys, want to know a cool story?

I went to Manchester yesterday. I a) missed the bus b) lost my wallet and mobile c) didn't have anywhere to sleep (and no money) d) saw John Darnielle play an amazing set (my friend recorded a video, I'll post it once she uploads it) from the front row e) found a hostel for 12 pounds which aforementioned friend was kind enough to pay for d) Woke up at 5 to take the first train to Preston where they had found my wallet and mobile f) played the tourist in Manchester g) sat on a bus for eight hours.

And now I'm back in Edinburgh.

Hey guys, apart from being shit, it was totally worth it.

Guys, guys, I went out to a gay bar on Saturday, with my girlfriend. While I was in the ladies' room, some girl hits on my girlfriend. I come back, we dance, the girl sees that I'm dancing with my girlfriend and so decides to hit me. She gives me the most pathetic excuse for a punch ever, right into my back of all places, and I turned around and was all "wait, what just happened?". This girl's friends were all WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING at her, and even though I was seething a little I decided to walk away.

I am very proud of myself, I've never walked away from that open an invitation to fight somebody.

So, remember how I said this week was essentially a vacation because all but one of professor who want things from me are out-of-town for conferences?  Well, that one professor is making me come up with so much stuff for his class.  We have three TAs for this class, but I'm the only PhD TA, so I'm obviously going to have more responsibilities.  Still, it's ridiculous.  I've got four hours of office hours per week (twice what the other TAs have), and I grade every other homework (which I'm splitting with one of the TAs).  Now I also have to come up with animations (which I have to make!) and pictures to teach his class for him.  This was supposed to be the other TA's job, which is why he doesn't have to grade homework.  I mean, I was going to try to start getting some data on this research project I'm doing, but I'm going to mainly be doing this other TA's job for him instead along with studying for mid-terms and doing my normal TA duties.

Guys, I am thinking of reconnecting with a friend. Things ended on a bad note, but lately I have been thinking about her. Its a long story as too what happened that ended our friendship, but basically another person got involved, and made me feel extremely uncomfortable, and my friend and I got in an argument about it. I haven't talked to her since. I was pretty good friends with her boyfriend as well, and he and I lost touch when all this went down as well, though we ended on a friendlier note. I was going to contact him about maybe all of us hanging out again, and to see how they are doing, but my phone recently lost all of it's contacts, and he isn't on any social networking sites, so I can't do that. I could contact her though. But I'm not sure what to say. What should I dooooo?

I remember playing a jazz gig with a dude who regaled us with a tale of a Captured! This describes guys who are cool.  You should only find guys who fit this description.

p.s.  My freshman year, for Halloween, I carved a bass clef into a pumpkin.  I'm that big a nerd.

p.p.s.  I can't believe I forgot to comment about how much I'm hoping for your mother in law to get better.  That sucks so much and I hope everything works out.

Don't tip the bong back when you're smoking it! You'll accidentally drink the bong-water!

We didn't use a bong. We rolled and smoked joints.

p.s.  My freshman year, for Halloween, I carved a bass clef into a pumpkin.  I'm that big a nerd.
Treble clef would be cooler. You could do it with fishing wire and thumbtacks. It would be awesome.

Blog thread, I have caught whatever is going round and I feel terrible. But I have to write an essay and then I have an interview then I'm meeting a friend then I should have a dance class but instead I am going out with the law faculty and then I will probably have more essay to finish.

Bleh.

I feel like shit today. I really hope it's the lack of sleep and I didn't manage to poison myself with the chicken I made last night, especially since I cooked for a friend too.

This essay has a maximum word count of 2000 words.

So I guess that the 369 words I've written won't be enough.

Dear Blog Thread:

Did you know that Heavy Metal is objectively the best kind of music? Also, that all other music is false and will be thrown upon the sword of metal's fiery wrath? It's true!

Today I came home to find both my copy of Baroness' The Blue Record and Boris' Japanese Heavy Rocks Vol. 1 waiting for me. Also I found out that Katatonia would have a new record out by the end of the year, and realised that the new Between the Buried and Me record was a mere week from release. METAL!
