The TMBG's song Your Racist Friend comes to mind a lot.

Yesterday, I was sitting in a pizza joint with my kiddo and she suddenly looks afraid and goes "Mama!  Look, monsters!" and shrinks down in her chair to hide.  I turn my head to look and there was a group of elderly people with walkers and cane's coming in the door.  Faye's been doing more and more silly and amusing things lately and it must be the age or something.  Every day, she says something that makes me nearly spit out my drink.  So fun.

Ya know, I think that's kind of a common thing when kids see someone with some sort of machine with em. My dad's in a wheelchair, and once a cute little girl came up to him (she was a very brave and cute little girl) and asked him, "Are you a monster?". Instead of saying "GRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRR!!!" he just explained that his legs don't work, so that's why he has a chair with wheels.

We won the last hockey match of the term 7-4 :)

During the game, a girl on the other team had an epileptic fit. She did it very tidily and timed it well, just waiting until play had stopped, and then after a minute she was fine and carried on. She must be pretty brave to play a fast-paced, violent sport involving sharp blades when she's at risk of blackouts but I think she can probably tell when they're about to happen and get herself into a safe place.

We have a lady in jiujitsiu who was epilepsy. There too, you would not think that would be an awesome sport for someone who can black out at a moment's notice but she manages to win some important championships. Don't quite know how she does it. I'd be freaked out.

FUCK YES BEEF STEW!!!

I made some delicious beef stew and dumplings today/yesterday, and hells yes it is super great. I love it so much! Woo!

On a slightly related note, my sleep schedule has been crap lately and I've basically slept all day today and am feeling a mix of super sleepiness and super awakedness. And am thus very easy to excite.

Today I taught my 11 year old cousin how to knit and I watched his 7 year old sister chase one of my cats around trying to play with him. Luckily he's a friendly cat and always wants to play. They wore the poor guy out though, by the end of the visit, which is saying something. Tomorrow is my first Monday off in ages, so I'm going to spend my time doing laundry, making mac and cheese, and making some cream cheese frosting for the cake my mom made tonight. And watch movies or read. It had better be a good Monday. I don't want to go thinking last week was a fluke.

epilepsy
epilepsy

Medication regulates it pretty well. My stepdad has epilepsy and he has had 1 minor seizure and 1 not as minor but not really that bad seizure in the 13ish years I've known him. Although seeing someone have a seizure is probably one of the scariest things that I have experienced.

Blog news:
Went to my dad's for birthday dinner. Presents were $150 toward getting my tattoo finished, and then socks and boots (since I am going to Buffalo, NY in the winter). My grandma gave me a bible, it is nice but I am atheist. Still will probably read it so I can have arguments with Christians.

Yeah, as debilitating as they may be, a lot of people can tell when a seizure is coming on and it's not always a subtle thing either.

Check it: Auras.

That said, I think around a 1/3rd of epilepsy sufferers have seizures that can't really be controlled with the best medications available, which sucks. I know my aunt and my cousin had grand mal episodes that didn't respond well to medication, and sadly the latter died due to a bad combination of incompetent security staff and loss of motor function.

I had epilepsy when I was little! I didn't have seizures like how most people with epilepsy do, I would just be unable to move (but still breathe and blink, I guess?) while being fully aware for the duration. Apparently I was pretty bad for a while (I was 5/6 at the time, so I don't really remember that much), where I had a lot of coordination and mobility problems, and spent a fair bit in hospital. My parents tell me scary stories about that time every now and then, and I am kinda glad I don't remember it. I was on medication for a while, but then it went away! I had to be careful around puberty in case it came back, but it seems like it has gone for good (at least at this moment in time)

I remember being sick and in bed and knowing my dad was there next to me but not being able to move at all, and remember being in the hospital and having to colour in with my left hand because I had a drip in my right, and getting frustrated that I kept colouring outside the lines. I also remember my brother was able to go play in the games room and I wasn't, which was totally unfair, and kinda remember having to get a lumbar puncture, but I think that is more from what Dad told me (he wasn't allowed to be in the room with me, and could hear me screaming from the hallway) than what I actually remember.

epilepsy: scary stuff.

so I saw a gathering of people armed with nerf guns on the campus plaza and walked up to this cute girl with a video camera.
"whats all this about." I asked
"Its Humans vs Zombies." She replied
"Hmm looks interesting how does it work?"
"Shawn! Get this guy a bandana hes playing now too." She shouts to a student who talkes like Mr. Sulu from the old star trek show.  I couldnt back down the girl was too sweet.  So we sat their and talked.  But now I have this bandana on my arm for the next week as I escape zombies.  I dunno if its nerdy but damnit it looks like a really intricate game of tag.

On a side note apparently there were some students playing quiddich earlier on the campus lawn...I donno how to respond to that.

Yeah, I'm not certain what would be worse: Being the parent of a child with epilepsy, or being a parent with severe epilepsy; either way I would suspect you'd often feel helpless. I remember going to a doctor's appointment and seeing a woman have a severe seizure in the waiting room; she fell to the ground and lost control of her bladder. She seemed so mortified and sad when she came to, particularly since her young son (who must have been no older than 12) acted so understanding. That would almost make it worse in a way; I could see how a parent would suffer from some guilt for having their child exposed to such situations, even if it really is no fault of their own.

Hey guys...guys? Have you missed me guys?  You better have because i have missed my cosy internet hovel.

So we have moved into our rad three bedroom unit and Aaron and I have nice things and it is clean and two stories and I fell down the stairs because they are quite dangerous but thats ok because I'm ok guys!

We didn't have internets until tonight because the phonelines didn't work and it was a whole big thing and annoying and the guy who fixed it was really rude but I was nice because he was fixing my internets!

My new job is awesome because being a legal secretary is pretty ok and I had the best solicitor who liked the Birthday Party but you wouldn't know it to look at him and we got along and then they changed me to one of the Partners who is also nice but probably doesn't like the Birthday Party and I just got used to my old solicitor and now I have to do Litigation and Wills instead of Conveyancing and I am back to worrying about messing up but I will get used to it again!

Living with Aaron is totally awesome and he makes me sammiches and lunches in my little skully lunchbox to take to work and we are happy and did I mention the house is clean oh man a clean house is a crazy thing and my kitty is happy and is pretending he likes Aaron best sometimes but I know he is just tricking.

Seriously guys I have mised you what has been going on?

I think it is a lot less hardcore here judging from the matches I have been to.  I need to toughen up anyway.

I am going with Lil' Outlaw, after the tiny crowbar my brother gave me to ward off Zombies.  Because I am tiny!  Also YEE HAW COWBOYS.  Although I apparently have to check on a roller derby register to make sure that name hasn't been taken so uh...maybe not that.

I was thinking Picachu + killa = picakilla? pokekilla? you could also probably use the little death too for it's multiple meanings. Ghostface JoDizzle. And don't they need tiny fast girls who would get tackled mostly by other tiny fast girls? I thought it was one of those sports where you need both big people and tiny ones.

Alternatively you could try to create a new dominant paradigm in roller derby and by extension in society and instead of focussing on destruction and domination you could focus on team-work and helping other people out and you call yourself Jodie the Conciliater or Jodie the Mediator or Jodie Sensible Solutions to Common Problems.

I dunno, the Bills nation is pretty downtrodden these days. Granted, they are still just as drunk, but it's more a of a forlorn drunk, less surly.

(I go to school less than an hour south of buffalo and I have not heard much from bills fans in an uncharacteristically long time.)

So, I figure that I'm single now, but I'm not sure if she broke up with me or if I have to do the heavy lifting on that end yet. I say this mostly because when the lady called me up last night, she was a bit too inebriated to make it clear whether she wanted to break up with me or whether she is just a crazy drunk dialer who rambles a lot. Either way, it's a good time to be looking elsewhere.

She shouts to a student who talkes like Mr.

I want to live where you live.

Dear bloggy
My play shows at Wednesday. It's gonna be so rad and probably the best thing we've done so far, even though there has been heaps of problems.

The stuff I get to do:
The god Indra, who has a Darth Varder mask that twists his voice, who goes on about the whinyness of mankind. I get to use my mighty voice.
The officer, who looks like a pimp/village people policeman crossover, who rambles on about the door and his love, Victoria
A silly dance where I'm lifted while trying to rush down the door, and make absolutely terribly stupid faces while people carry me around.
Spanish violent soap opera set to a Zelda theme.
Lots'a fun!

Theatre is awesome.

People where I went to school (Charleston, SC) played quiddich sometimes when I was there.  I did not participate, because it was not real quiddich (as far as I was aware, they were not mounted on flying brooms), and therefore it was lame.

From my vague recollection of the Harry Potter universe, it seemed like the "snitch" was semi-sentient and flew around on its own. How does one recreate this phenomenon?

This morning I lost a bet about which actor played Dumbledore in Chamber of Secrets (I could have sworn it was Gambon). I had to buy coffee for the Animation Manager.
It is okay but I am pretty upset at myself.

Well, that certainly sounds infinitely more exciting than my day at work.
