I did try to sleep for one hour with Bedhead on really really low, and I still didn't fall asleep. I mean, if Bedhead on really low can't make you fall asleep, nothing can!

I used to have big problems with insomnia due to thinking too much so I couldn't actually fall asleep, but I found that a movie or tv show was much better than music as it actually distracted me from thinking, whereas the music just faded into the background.

I can't sleep with music at all. It creeps into my brain and I wake up thinking about chord progressions or humming along. Maybe try ambient sounds? Like get recordings of running water, passing cars, nature noises, etc. Those have helped me in the past.

Do you guys have any tips for remembering things? I have tried calendars, both digital and paper. The problem is I forget to write things in them.

I email myself reminders, often multiple times. As in, I'll email myself when I first learn of something I want to remember (since I got an iphone, I'll sometimes even send this email while sitting in a restaurant or wherever immediately after the phone conversation ends,) and then I'll email it to myself again whenever the message is almost to the bottom of the first page of my inbox. That way on the day I need to do whatever it is, when I'm routinely checking through all my new messages there will be the reminder.

I use Google Tasks a lot...since I generally check my main Gmail account at least a dozen times a day, it's easy to see what needs doing.  It doesn't buzz me or anything when I hit a due date, which would be convenient, but it has helped tremendously this past semester.

The only time music has ever put me to sleep was when I saw Puddle of Mudd in concert.

Not even kidding, I was eight rows away from the band that sounded like a badly loaded washing machine, and I fell asleep.

on this note, you may want to look into the following musics, some of which might be found on our very own mf thread:
Helios
Aphex twin's selected ambient works volume II (one of the versions of this has a track called "stone in focus" which is absolutely ideal for bedtime music. Been listening to this at bedtime for literally years now.)
Stars of the Lid
Eluvium has produced some music that works very well but my knowledge of their (his?) back catalog is very limited.

Tommy would also suggest an album by a guy named Chris Herbert entitled mezzotint. I haven't heard it though.

Iv'e found an alternate strategy that works pretty well is to just turn on a fan.

Silence is best, but when there's no silence, the best music for me is thrash metal.  Quieter stuff tends to have more dynamic contrast, but thrash metal can just be noise if you don't pay attention to it.

INTERNET, I SEEK YOUR MEDICAL ADVICE.

I ask you because I have very few female friends, and not much parental support. This post may get kinda gross, and t.m.i-y. Just a heads up.

For the past few weeks, I've been experiencing some increasingly bad stomach cramps, as well as feeling very sick/vomiting, very tired, and having cramps on par with regular period cramps, same area and all. I've recently(this month being the end of my second month) started a new birth control, and have since had very short/small period, as in, two days with very very very little blood. And the blood that has come about has been basically been what has been described as "implantation blood." I don't think I'm pregnant, because both times that I was supposed to have my period, I've had those short/small periods. But I have no clue. Googling my symptoms tells me I either have liver problems, or am pregnant. I am super adamant about not going to the doctor or hospital(bad experiences), but I am to the point where I've taken two days off work because it has been so bad, so I'm it. I don't know what it could be. Should I just say fuck it and go to the doctor even though I a)hate the doctor, and b)my medical insurance doesn't kick in until next month(fucking lame)?

Aphex twin's selected ambient works volume II (one of the versions of this has a track called "stone in focus" which is absolutely ideal for bedtime music. Been listening to this at bedtime for literally years now.)

As for sleep music, I second this. My boyfriend listens to this and Pink Floyd, and Ghosts by NIN for sleep. If I can't sleep, I typically listen to his snoring. Oddly enough, it knocks me the fuck out. I don't know if its because its "white noise," or if it is sounds of someone sleeping, or because its comforting knowing that he is there, or what, but it does the job nicely.

Went job hunting today. Picked up a million apps. Not 24 hours after I found out I'd been sacked, I'm out looking. Should be at least something to impress potential employers.

In the downtime during my unemployment, I'm working on a guitar and vocals only version of "Stupidity Tries" by Elliott Smith. I want to see if I can do something solid with just me and my electric guitar, and still make it sound good without needing drums or other instruments. An exercise in production technique, as well as an opportunity to create a good, relatively simplistic (yet still fulfilling) alternative arrangement. Only gonna be two guitar tracks and two vocal tracks. Wish me luck.

Calling the doctor. I also have a fever of 102.8.

Also, I am up and posting at 6:45am because I had a series of horrible, terrifying dreams, and now can't sleep. They were all weird and I woke up to scared to leave the bed. I made my boyfriend come to the bathroom with me so I could pee.

Anyway, the dreams went...:

Dream 1) I was one of the Bolyn girls, and my boyfriend was the kind they were after. We were all in a modern day grocery store, but it was all post-apocalypic, with no electricity, and very few displays being very dimly lit. It was hectic in there, yet I was not stressed. I could see my boyfriend further up the aile, making out with my sister, who I'm not sure who that was supposed to represent(does that make sense? I could tell that my boyfriend was who he was, yet he had the apperence of the king, and I could tell who I was yet I looked nothing like myself). I was going through this freezer filled with meat. One side was ground beef, and the other side was all organs. I needed to get ground beef for dinner but my boyfriend is really picky about what he'll grill so I had to find a certain kind, but all of it was bad, spoiled and slightly frozen, and covered in blood. To the point where blood was getting everywhere, it covered my arms and my clothes. I couldn't find anything in the ground meat, so I decided to try to find steaks or something in the organ pile. All of the organs are in good condition, except they are organs you/we don't typically eat. Intestines, heart, brain(so many brains. Some looked like human brains. Some were hollowed out and looked like the coconut husks I saw in this video I watch recently about octopuses), and kidneys(which freaked me out because in the dream I recalled a story I just read about an old Jewish man who had his  kidney removed during his time in a concentration camp. Without any medicine. It was horrifiying). I can't find any meat, so I give up and go to rest on a pile of bodies(unsure if they are dead or alive), and reflect on life. Then I have to be a judge for an online match of MTG between my boyfriend and some guy.(A.I don't think they have judges for such a thing, and B.I doubt they'd let me be a judge of a match involving my boyfriend, even if I had all the year of experience and qualifications to be a judge) Judging the match, I am teasing my boyfriend a lot and being really flirty and sexual with him. The other guy says he feels it isn't appropiate, and we agree, and he ofters that we disregard that game, and we agree to, and then I type something that crashes my entire laptop, and can't judge because of it. I feel like I let everyone down, but am apathetic toward it.

Dream 2) my boyfriend and I have a house with a driveway and a son named Coltrane, and a border collie named Rex.  We are all working in the driveway together. Our neighbor is also outside. He has always been friendly and we regarded him as a grandpa like figure. We recently learned that he is a registered sex offender, something involving boys our son's age(6 or 7). We remain nice to him, but don't want our son over there alone. But the man is outside working, and our son runs over and starts asking him all these questions about what he is doing like kids tend to do, and we are fine with him being over there because we can see them, but then the neighbor keeps trying to get our son to come in his garage where we wouldn't be able to see him, and then he turns his music up so loud that we can't hear them. Finally, we call Coltrane back over, and he comes running over unharmed, but the dog does not. After a few minutes, Rex yelps and comes limping back to us. The neighbor smashed his foot somehow. When I woke up, I realized that the neighbor was going to kill the dog to get to our son. Wtf

Dream 3) in this dream, one of my younger brother's(I assume its one of my brothers. I get a brotherly feel from him, but can't actually place who he is plus he has super dark skin and all of my siblings are pasty) is 18 and livng with us. Not being freshly 18, and acting well enough like an adult, and us having a good relationship, he asks me to take him to a porn store. At which point I ask him why he doesn't just walk since there is one right up the street.  But he really wants me to go with him. In the dream, I can tell that he is gay. He is undenibly gay, but in the dream he hasn't even come out to himself.

Later he and I are looking at random things online, videos and pictures. At one point this form comes up, asking me to describe something. Not paying attention, I assume it is about the pictures. Very steam of conciously I describe the videos and pictures. One of the pictures was a skateboard with all these radical slogans painted on it, one being "think like a boy", so I typed that into the form. Later, we find out that the form is for a muslim dating site. At the time we think its very funny, and laugh at the end result, but in my "awake mind"(I'm vaugely certain that this was my asleep self judging my mind. Kind of like how I knew I disappointed people in dream 1, but my dream self did not care. Well my sleep self was judging harshly), I'm reading the profile, and am vaguely disturbed by my stream of thought.

So those are my fucked up dreams. Wtf wtf wtf. I do not understand any of them. None of them make any sense. I will never take melatonin and pain medicine at the same time ever again.

A few days ago I had a dream that Namor the Submariner and I were private detectives and that we adopted a baby girl named Penelope. Namor was a jerk. A couple of days before that I dreamed that I was a superhero (my character from the superhero thread from a ways back) and I was fighting crime with Nick Fury (played by David Hasselhoff.

Not long ago, I had a dream that the ex-roommate and I were moving a boulder from one field to another and to commemorate the feat, we got matching tattoos of he and I moving the boulder with the words "Sinister Scorpion" above and "Agalog Ogloglog" below.

I have been wanting someone to draw that for quite some time.

So I'm not in Finland any more! Back in gloomy Shropshire and I've gone very suddenly from six hours of training a day and salad for meals three times a day to no exercise at all and stodgy puddings after two of the three meals. I'm going to have to do something about both elements of this problem, I have lost so much weight in the last three months and gained so much muscle tone that it would be a shame to eat my way back to my original state. Especially since we start league games next term and I want to play D (need to improve my backwards skating and overall speed first).

Finland was awesome, you guys! The ice was perfect, the coaches were fantastic, the food was fairly good and because it is a sports institute it was pretty healthy. The cabins were comfortable and we got along pretty well as a team, although there was some pretty clear-cut segregation between the age groups as we were split into two cabins and they arranged it by age. I'm very glad to be home because I was exhausted all the time but it was so worth it.

Now I have to get some actual work done this week, which is hard because every day there is something to do and someone to see. Today I've not done anything at all but tomorrow my friend Lawrence is coming over for tea and then we're going out; Thursday we're probably going out in the evening with some college friends and I'm also getting my hair cut; Friday my mum is taking me shopping for new pretty clothes :) and then on Monday Jens arrives! And we're off to my dad's to explore Yorkshire and the North and have fun times in the gloomy, foggy, cold weather.

Woo.

That's awesome, May! Now I'm getting jealous of Jens again because hanging out with you is really fun and Yorkshire is really pretty, and I wish I could have gone too. It helps that it looks like we're getting a white Christmas here though, which we haven't had in a few years. Wanna go skiing and ice skating and slaloming and all the winter things I haven't done in soooo long!

AND HAVE A CAT

Damn.  I wish I could have a cat.  Petting a cat is supposed to lower your blood pressure and stuff.

I'm in Oswestry, but only until Monday and then not again until April. This isn't really a great place to meet me in - Yorkshire is much better or Cambridge. Actually it isn't a great place to do anything in, unless you have an interest in sheep farming.

I know I know I know it's horrible. I wasn't bothered about meeting up, I was just amazed there was someone else from Shropshire on here. Most people don't seem to know the county exists, and if they do they only know the south part. Which is probably for the best, actually.

Because when they claw your arm to shit and rip your veins open, you have less blood!

Thinking specifically of my grandmother's cat, who is a little shit. A big shit, actually, he's the size of a small to medium dog.

I am painting tiny spaceships right now and I realize that I need painters tape so that I can get perfectly straight lines on them.

How I am kept alive now:

A day's dose:

Actually, I'm back at work full time now, and the side effects from the pills have mostly subsided.

On the plus side, if you make a sudden and total recovery you could make a nice little earning out of drug dealing.

Last week I spent a night in the hospital due to an allergic reaction to penicillin.  Boo side effects.

Damn, that's a lot of drugs.

Guys, the best way to describe myself right now is the chorus from this song.

I've been awake for about 40 hours cause I can't sleep on airplanes. Also, I'm now in Brooklyn!

For like four days, and I'm going to spend the first one sleeping.

Man, I don't think I remember even 50% of the last time I was in Brooklyn.  That might have had more to do with the guy I was staying with than anything else.

So, I got an 'A' in one class.  I'm fairly certain that instructor didn't really care how our grades came out, percentage-wise.  If he had, I'm fairly certain I would have failed due to not doing most of the homeworks, especially when he called an 83 on the final "disappointing" (which it was, but only because I was kind of expecting to destroy that exam).  Now all I have to do is pass my other class (final on Friday), and that's a class where the professor does it strictly by the numbers.

As far as work goes, I've finished the easy part of my experiment, which only took me three months, now it's time for the hard part.  Also, the teacher for the class I'm TAing is going to be out-of-town for the final, so I have to administer and grade the thing for the whole class.  The worst part is that it's on Saturday evening and I had wanted to catch one of my friends' band's show in DC (turns out he's headlining, too!) on Saturday.  Unfortunately now I won't be able to leave town until Monday at the earliest.  It might be even later unless I can get a hold of the other TAs for that class.  I'm a little bit pissed at the professor while also being slightly happy that he trusts me enough to do all that.

In personal news, I seem to have developed a problem on the pad of the middle finger on my left hand.  Do my fingers sense every time I'm going to have a gig and decide to mess themselves up?  I've also got a date tomorrow, and I'm pretty excited because she seems like a cool person.  I guess I'll find out tomorrow.

That's because they're uncultured heathens who haven't read any A.E. Houseman.

I lived in Shropshire for a year when I was 6! My dad came up with a song about Ironbridge. I remember a) getting sick and subsequently walking around the area with dad because I couldn't really go very far in case I had to go to hospital; and b) the room I was staying in had a tiny window that I was sure witches would fly through and grab me when I was asleep.

wooooooo SHROPSHIRE!
