But you still call it porn mode?

Yes. I never claimed I was consistent, nor that I was 100% serious.

That all depends

It depends on who's looking, and whether they'll tell.

I'm too new to know these characters that are watching, but I've done what Joyce is doing, sheltered someone in my dorm room against school policy, so I know that it's okay for students to know, but it can't get back to faculty. In my case, it wasn't even a big secret to anybody that knew me or my friend. Then again, we had no RA, just an old guy in charge of the entire dorm as a unit, so it was easier to keep the information out of the wrong peoples' hands.

I never heard of a RA until Dumbing of Age.  But then, I never lived in a university dorm.  I don't think they have RAs here, I could be wrong.

According to the religious people I've heard from, Hogwarts is a heathen school. Besides, a proper Catholic college has "Saint" at the beginning of its name.  :-P

I'm enough in the midst of a depressive episode that I can't tell whether I just don't enjoy this strip anymore in general or if I don't like it right now because I'm depressed enough to have lots of really negative thoughts toward things I like, including one of my favorite movies.

One of my issues right now is that I'm having a lot of angst about being the age I am and not relating very much to the people around me because they're at such a different, immature point in their lives. Just makes me feel like the odd one out, even more so than usual.

I think I'd like to take a break from DoA and all of its drama, but I compulsively check it because it's one of my only comics that actually updates every day. :S

I've been trying to do the same recently, not for the same reasons as you (and I hope you find a way to cope with your issues--my early-mid twenties kinda sucked too, but hang in there, the mid-late twenties get slightly better, kinda, I think?), but because I spend way too much time compulsively checking updates as well.  Same with QC.  I wish I had the patience to build up a 1-2 week backlog of strips to read at my leisure, rather than watching Jeph's Twitter and checking the time every few minutes to see if it's 11:01 PM local time yet, but I haven't quite succeeded yet.  Although I did manage to take a two-week hiatus during Faye's hospitalization by binge-reading Dumbing of Age, so maybe I just need to find some other long-running webcomics to distract me...

Thanks. :) I'm kind of treading water for the next few weeks, but there's a lot at stake. :/

I have quite a few other comics I'm hooked on, and I'm getting caught up on my GoComics, so that's nice to have a backlog of.

All aboard the feels train

Joyce is doing her best to try to block out the explanation with her mind and just trying not to think about it.

I can't help but feel like this is all culminating into a confrontation with that guy.  Becky beats the shit out of him, cops come and take away Becky and the guy.

This is one of those times when I don't know what's going on. I'm familiar with Roz only from Shortpacked, but the characters are different in DoA, and there's different histories for everybody. I guess we'll find out the backstory sooner or later...

Honestly? Because it was a link on the QC page, I enjoyed what was happening, but I haven't had time to rewind through the whole archive. My first strip was Becky's arrival and Joyce's reaction. It seemed interesting, and I know some of these characters from Shortpacked already. Well, their personalities, thinking specifically of Mike here.

It's kind of an important thing.. The short version of it is that some of the others convinced Joyce to go to a party at the college. Sarah protested that it was a bad idea, but they went anyway. Joyce met a guy there who pretended to be nice and religious, but was just looking to get her alone so he could rape her. He slipped her a roofie at one point, and while she was fuzzing out, she hit him with the glass she was  holding, cutting his face and her hand. That's how blood got on the orange sweater. Then Sarah showed up with a baseball bat and slugged the guy. During all the confusion, he slipped away and the girls got Joyce back to her room. Despite others urging her to report it, she just didn't want to think about it and eventually they relented. Joyce has been stewing about it ever since. The guy that Joyce kept seeing everyone as a few weeks back when she ran from gender studies to find Ethan was the attempted rapist. And probably a serial rapist because he's apparently been known to cruise college parties like that.

Thanks for the run down

I had seen something about that in the comments, I think. I knew that somebody, one of the characters either had bedn, or nearly was raped in the recent past. The comment was vague, someone pointing out that dramatic storylines weren't unheard of in this strip.

Fair enough, it's just weird to me to start in the middle and keep going from where you started instead of going back and catching up, even if that takes a while.

It is for me, too. Never done it before. My job is finishing up tomorrow, I'll likely spend part of my unemployment reading through the rest of it
