Blog Thread 5: A New Beginning
Morituri:
I have pretty much given up eating pork and mutton/lamb. Not out of concern for my health but because of ethical considerations. I think they're too smart to use as food. (Sheep are stupid, but still smarter than cattle IMO. Pigs are actually surprisingly not-stupid.)
I am willing to eat beef occasionally (I may go through as much as ten pounds of it a year), but the vast majority of my meat intake is farmed fish, chicken or turkey. At the holidays I may have goose; a rare treat when I'm eating out is duck or rabbit. All told though? I'm probably eating less than a half-ounce of meat a day on average. I live mostly on fruit, vegetables, baked goods, and dairy products.
hedgie:
Heh. I’ve mostly cut beef out, since it’s the most environmentally destructive. While pigs may be smart, they’d eat me if given half a chance, so fair is fair.
LeeC:
Going to the more exotic foods, I have had Moose, Kangaroo, Crocodile, and Ostrich. Ostrich was pretty good, but something about moose just taste really good.
hedgie:
I’m really sad that the place that had ostrich burgers here closed down. IIRC, the owners retired, and didn’t have a buyer.
Is it cold in here?:
I had bear once.
Today I laughed at a Dilbert cartoon.
