Dale is not May's keeper.  He gave her an up vote so she could get paroled, gave her a place to stay, and has a higher tolerance for her than most.  Even May doesn't begrudge him having to work and getting laid.

He's not her keeper, but he is her friend. Not saying he owes her anything, but I think he'd be upset if he realised how lonely she is. It's easy to neglect friendships without realizing it.

And May is the sort, human or bot, to actively hide their emotions behind a stone veneer.  Part of her self-definition is being hard as nails and letting on to anyone that she's actually quite fragile terrifies the Hell out of her.
