no one does sad like elliott smith though...
Signum_Tenebrae:
I find suicidal black metal to be really sad.. I guess agonizing and filled with hateful despair is a better way to put it
Xasthur - Nocturnal Poisoning (more of a supernatural alienation and hateful obsession with the occult.. has reoccuring themes of astral projection, suicide, and despair)
Abyssic Hate - Suicidal Emotions
Beatrik - Journey Through The End Of Life
Krohm - A World Through Dead Eyes
Silencer - Death Pierce Me (This band has a FUCKED UP frontman. In the booklet accompanying this CD, it shows him sitting against the wall covered in some kind of blood with a weird silvery mask on and pigs hooves taped onto his hands. Unfortunately, this band is no more since he was institutionalized.)
Bethlehem - Dictus Te Necare
Burzum - Hvist Lyset Tar Oss (perhaps not quite sad.. there's definitely an element of sadness in there mixed with an "otherworldly" feeling.)
Nargaroth - Geliebte Des Regens
Also I like me some doom / funeral doom!
Anything by:
Nortt
Shape of Despair
Mournful Congregation
Pantheïst
Forest of Shadows
Ningizzia
Morgion
Deinonychus
Abysmal Grief
Other stuff like drone is horrible to listen to and makes one want to kill onesself
Sun O)))
The Funeral Orchestra
etc etc
betteroffdead:
some of these might be repeats, but for me:
bright eyes
iron & wine
broken social scene (some songs)
dashboard confessional
harvey danger (some songs)
bainidhe_dub:
i think i've mentioned it before, but due to certain associations concerning a shitty period of high school, Stabbing Westward depresses me to no fucking end, and only recently have i been able to listen to their songs without feeling crappy all over again..
happybirthdaygelatin:
Some Modest Mouse (Bankrupt on Selling, Talking Shit About a Pretty Sunset). Diffently the Cure. Some Bauhaus.
