Aphi:
Thursday. /Any/ of their CDs. They get me /every/ time.

'specially 'Understanding in a Car Crash', 'Cross Out The Eyes', and 'War All The Time'.

Robbo:
Funeral Doom like Until Death Overtakes Me works well on me. But then, the whole genre is writen to be soul crushingly sad really.

I like the whole lassing out in "pain and suffering" style sad of Death/Doom stuff like early Katatonia and October Tide.

a pack of wolves:
Tom Waits - 'Who Are You', 'A Little Rain', 'Whistle Down The Wind'
Lucero - 'Mine Tonight', 'The Only One'
Dead Kennedys - 'Dead End'
Delgados - 'Peloton' in its entirety
Sparklehorse - 'Good Morning Spider' in all its melancholy wonder
Kudos on the people who mentioned those last two bands before, definitely on the money with the sadness.

blindsuperhero:
I don't find Thursday sad at all, really. More kind of impassioned. I can't envisage torrents of guitar noise and people yelling their lungs out as sad, exactly, but I suppose it's a personal thing.
But then I can't really think of any songs I do find sad.

Edit: Actually, the saddest song I know is Unbroken by Link 80, which nicely contradicts what I said about noise and yelling. Oh well.

Aphi:
=laughs= Hooray for contradictions?

I dunno, I guess it /is/ a personal thing, but the clear passion in Geoff Rickly's voice coupled with the screaming guitars and heavy beat of the drum((Hmmm...can we guess who's a writer?)) speaks to me on a very personal level, and always manages to choke me up.

=laughs some more= I've given up listening to Thursday at school, 'cause I often find myself on the edge of tears while Chris looks on, rolling his eyes at me.

Not that he's any better--he's a closet Cranberries fan and won't admit it.
