Just got Nile - Annihilation of the Wicked today, because the record store fucked up my order, and instead of the Orange Goblin album 'The Big Black' they ordered me an album by a band called 'Big Black'.

I'll second Big Black being a great band, but getting the wrong item is always really annoying. I've heard a couple Orange Goblin songs and they're actually pretty good. As for stuff I got lately, well I doubt anyone else here likes Finnish free folk but here I go:

Soft Bulletin is a billion times better than Yoshimi, but that album was my first experience with the Flaming Lips, something which ended up changing my world.

What genre are Big Black anyway? I doubt my local HMV will sell it any time soon. I once bought a Discordance Axis album from them because I felt sorry for it, having been there two years or so.

Big Black was Steve Albini's band in the '80s. They're kind of hardcore post-punk, I guess, or maybe even proto-industrial. Brilliantly abrasive songs consistently less than 3 minutes long.

"Songs About Fucking" has great cover art, too. Heh.

Don't like Nirvana, or the Pixies, NIN I can take or leave and in the case of The Fragile it's 'leave', I find most GY!BE boring, Veruca Salt are...ok-ish I guess. McClusky I don't like either. Flogging Molly I quite like what I've heard, so I'll give him that. However, I'm pretty fine with that generalisation, especially as it says on his wikipedia article he 'deplores overdubbing, and generally keeps vocals "low in the mix", or much less prominent than is usual in rock music.' Which style of production I find bloody annoying myself.

So yeah. It compares him to Black Flag though, so it can't be so bad, maybe I'll pick it up.
