IronOxide:
What have I to say on Skyclad's Womb of the Worm?
The beginning is strange, and then the guitars come in powerfully. The guitar is cool and fun to listen to, and then the vocals. Oh the vocals. They are uninspired and they don't even sound good. (At least to me, I'm not a metal fan) The song then offers little development or change that you expect in a seven minute song.
As someone who doesn't like metal I give it a 3/10.
I next present you to my favorite instrumentalists ever.

Listennn toooo the lyyrrriiiiicsssss *cries*
Womb Of The Worm
Black hat stranger - affluent as effluent
Hides behind his mirror shades and crocodile smile
Preying on the weak, the vulnerable and innocent
All things pure and virginal he will defile.
Shepherd of a flock of black sheep - he knows his charges well
Their thirst for life is drowning down in his snow filled hell...
They never die - in "the Womb of the Worm" they lie
They never die - in "the Womb of the Worm" they lie.
Slaves to the only god they know,
Drawn by the song of the cosmic diva
The lord of the flies is a dandy beau
King of the hill in the new Bohemia
Where does he come from, their redeemer
Where does he dwell? (they never learn)
What is the prize for the true believer?
Rotting away in the "Womb of the Worm"?
Death is the hand of a handsome stranger - (he speaks, heads turn)
Babes unaware of impending danger - quickening dead in the "Womb of the Worm"
They never die - in "the Womb of the Worm" they lie
They never die - in "the Womb of the Worm" they lie.
At the gravesides of sad lonely children
Reason sits with a tear in her eye
Killed in their prime - tell me why were they taken?
It's not them but "the Worm" that should die.
"Stabat Mater Dolorosa" - a grieving mother's sad refrain
Chasing dragons in the subway, to kill the time and ease the pain.
Words of "the Worm":
"Don't be afraid - just take my hand
'cause life's too short to be a bore
Try it once, you'll understand
Why they keep coming back for more."
Form an orderly line outside death's door
If you want to taste his sweet amnesia
He's never short of clientele
Though most of them die from a fatal seizure
Another mother cries to a chat-show host
(she speaks - my stomach churns)
I hear how a young kid - now a young ghost
Died a sickening death in "the Womb of the Worm."
They never die - in "the Womb of the Worm" they lie
They never die - in "the Womb of the Worm" they lie.
I mean, come on, they cap pretty much every other band in the universe on the head for lyrics.
And I love his vocals so much -_-
a pack of wolves:
Sorry Khar, but those kind of lyrics are one of the reasons I can never get into a lot of metal. Give me a nice song about a French cultural theorist any day.
KharBevNor:
But it's a tortuously clever song about people who sell drugs to children! Can you not even appreciate the word-play, the internal rhymes, the cadences and alliterations? This is clever bloody stuff, and relevant too.
IronOxide:
I think that word play should be just that, play. If you want to play with words, don't make it about killing little kids.
It's just not my style.
I did like the guitar, though, it was just too overpowered by backup guitar and the vocals. The chords shouldn't be louder than the melody, in my book at least.
I hope that I'm not coming off as a asshole, it's hard to sound nice about this on the internet.
EDIT: A minor spelling error, I'm like that.
